Probe launched after miscreants pour saffron paint on Periyar bust, garland it with slippers

TIRUCHY: Miscreants desecrated a bust of Dravidian leader Periyar kept in the Periyar memorial Samathuvapuram in Inamkulathur village near Tiruchy's Inamkulathur. 

The bust was found with saffron paint poured all over it and was garlanded with slippers on the wee hours of Sunday.

While Manikandam police immediately cleaned the statue with the help oflocal residents, an investigation is on to nab the accused. 

Police sources stated that the incident may have occured around 4 am on Sunday. 

With the news about the Dravidian leader's bust being desecrated spread in social media, supporters of Periyar and cadres from different organisations gathered at the village and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
