IPL betting racket: Two arrested in Pimpri Chinchwad; Rs 24.27 lakh seized

Pimpri Chinchwad Police has arrested two persons for betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches

Pimpri: Two persons were arrested for allegedly playing illegal betting for ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The arrest comes after new Police Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Krishna Prakash has launched a new campaign named ‘Zero Tolerance’ which aims to eliminate eradicate all illegal trades in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The two accused are identified as Chetan Jayramdas Kotwani (50) and Lalchand Devidas Sharma (49) both residents of Pimpri. A team from Pimpri police station, led by Senior Police Inspector Milind Waghmare, Sub-inspector Sachin Suryawanshi, laid a trap and nabbed the accused after receiving a tip-off. The accused were nabbed in Vaibhav Nagar on Friday.

During the arrest, the Pimpri Chinchwad police has seized Rs 24.27 lakh which includes four mobile phones, Rs 5,850 cash, a four-wheeler and other stationary items. The action was taken under the guidance of DCP (Crime Branch) Sudhir Hiremath and ACP Ram Jadhav by a team led by Senior Police Inspector Milind Waghmare. A case has been registered against the duo under the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act and police is probing the matter further.
