Synopsis

India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp said a fire which broke out at its Hazira gas processing plant in Gujarat on Thursday morning has been brought under control.

State run-ONGC witnessed a fire at its gas processing unit at Hazira in Gujarat, early on Thursday. "A fire was observed in the Hazira gas processing plant in the morning today. Fire has been brought under control. There is no casualty or injury to any person," the company said.

A company spokesperson said that the fire was because of leakage from a gas line. Reports said that explosions were heard but ONGC dismissed it, citing the noise heard was owing to more gas being released for flaring to depressurise the gas line. "Fire at Hazira Plant has been completely extinguished. Efforts are being made to resume normal operations at the earliest," the company said.
