Crashed car focus of investigation into 'targeted' fatal stabbing

Police believe the circumstances which led to a car being crashed into a western Sydney creek on Tuesday morning could help them understand why a man was fatally stabbed nearby.

The body of the man, aged in his 20s, was found with stab wounds at Emu Green Reserve in Emu Plains just before 8am.

Emergency services were called, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Jason Pietruszka said it appeared the man, who was from the Nepean area, had been dead for several hours. The man was known to police.

"His interactions with police do cause concern, but they do also point us to why he may have been in the areas and it is a course of the investigation we are following," Mr Peitruszka said.

He said police believe the incident was targeted.

A number of vehicle tracks can be seen going in and out of the park.

"There could have been some kind of altercation that led that vehicle to end up where it did," he said, asking anyone who was in the area between 4am and 5am on Thursday to contact police with any information about what they may have seen.

Two men known to the deceased, who were at the scene when police arrived, are assisting with their inquiries.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
