Chennai: The couple, M Aravindsamy (25), a carpenter, and M Harshalakshmi (19) of the same locality, were in a relationship for about two years and got married secretly at a temple there on September 14 since the girl’s parents opposed their relationship.
The girl’s relatives allegedly started making threat calls to the couple after which Aravindsamy and Harshalakshmi reached Tiruporur by bus and stayed in his relative’s house in Rathinamangalam.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family lodged a complaint at Athiyaman Kottai police station and a team of police personnel reached Rathinamangalam on Tuesday. However, the couple refused to go with the police claiming there is a threat to their lives if they return to their hometown.
Later, the couple visited the all-women police station in Mahabalipuram seeking protection. In their petition, the couple sought police to produce them before the magistrate in Chengalpattu instead of sending them with Athiyaman Kottai police. Inspector Amudha is inquiring the couple and they are expected to be produced before the magistrate on Thursday.
