Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday dedicated the first underground metro train of the state to the public through video conference and flagged off the metro. This metro train will run in Jaipur city under Metro Phase 1-B covering a distance of 2.12 km from Chandpol to Badi Chaupar.

Gehlot said, "Metro trains running from Chandpol to Badi Chaupar will ease tourist travel in the city and ease the traffic pressure."

On September 21, 2013, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of Metro Phase 1-B and at that time it was expected that this phase would be completed in two and a half years, but the pace slowed down with the change in the government and now it Completed in March 2020.

The Chief Minister thanked the Union Urban Development Ministry for their cooperation in completing Metro Phase 1-B. He requested to explore the possibilities of starting a low-cost metro light project in the state. In addition, he demanded to connect cities like Jodhpur and Bikaner with the Smart City Project, so that urban development works can be done in these cities as well.
