Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who announced voluntary retirement from service on Tuesday, has now confirmed that he will be joining politics. The announcement comes in the run up to the crucial Bihar assembly elections.
Speculation had been growing ever since Gupteshwar Pandey, the outspoken Bihar top cop, had announced his retirement after being embroiled in controversies over the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
As soon as he announced his retirement, rumours started doing the rounds that Gupteshwar Pandey took this step in order to contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
Putting an end to all the speculation, Gupteshwar Pandey told India Today TV in an interview, "Is it a sin to join politics? What is unethical and immoral about it? Criminals reach Parliament then why can’t I think about this."
He went on to say, "Gupteshwar Pandey can win from any place as an independent candidate." Speaking to India Today TV, Gupteshwar Pandey also said if he joins politics it will be like a lion, not a thief.
After retiring from the service on Tuesday, Gupteshwar Pandey said that he is a "free man" now and can do whatever he feels like, hinting at chances of contesting the upcoming Bihar elections.
Soon after the announcement, a music video featuring the Bihar top cop was released on YouTube, in which the singer referred to Pandey as 'Robinhood Bihar Ke'.
