Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said on Monday that the Election Commission (EC) will decide to visit Bihar in the next few days where assembly elections are likely to be held later this year amid the COVID-19 epidemic.

Arora, while addressing an international webinar on 'Issues, Challenges and Protocols during COVID-19: Sharing the country's experience', said that the Commission will decide in the next two-three days on visiting Bihar.

The Election Commission usually visits the state to discuss with the police, civil administration officials and political parties there before announcing the election schedule for the contested state. The commission consists of a Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners.

Arora discussed in detail the impact of COVID-19 on the election, according to a commission release. He said that the maximum number of voters at a polling station has reduced from 1500 to 1000 and the number of polling stations has increased from 65,000 to 1000. Arora pointed out that further changes required heavy arrangements and personnel.

The term of the 243-member assembly in Bihar will expire on November 29 and elections are likely to be held in the state in October-November.
