A militant was killed and a security force was injured in an encounter with security forces during a siege and search operation in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said the encounter began on Monday night and continued till the final report was received. The militant was killed during the encounter this morning while the jawan was injured last night. The road leading to the dargah of Hazrat Sheikh Nuruddin Wali has been closed due to operations in Nauhard and Chadura Charar-e-Sharif.
Based on the intelligence of the presence of the terrorists, special operations groups of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans started search operation on Monday night at Naushad and Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam.
He said that security forces were sieging the entire area and searching house to house. At the same time, while they were moving towards a house, the terrorists hiding there started indiscriminate firing on them with automatic weapons. The security forces also retaliated with which the encounter started.
He said that a soldier was injured in the firing, who has been admitted to the hospital. Residents in the area were instructed to immediately reach safe locations and additional security forces were deployed at the encounter site. Firing continued on both sides throughout the night, but the operation resumed with the first ray of the morning.
