On this Saturday, 19th Sep, Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club has expressed its annoyance over the financial package that was declared by the Lt Governor.

It explained that the impaired industry hit hard for the past one year has been ignored completely in terms of financial packages.

In a recent statement issued to KNS reads, Chairman J&K Hoteliers Club Mushtaq Chaya stated that for one year, hotels were closed and there are no signs of its recommencement in the immediate past due to the pandemic.

To quote Chaya, “Government should announce a special tourism specific financial package where all government usage charges including water and electricity tariffs should be completely waived off for one year.”

He mentioned that hoteliers have big investments at stake. If the government doesn’t lend their rescue hand, the hotel sector which is providing employment to several would be in permanent predicament.
Chaya has requested LG to modify the package and give immediate priority to the industry and announcement of 5% interest subvention would not come to any help of the ailing hotel industry.

For all the hoteliers, Chaya demanded immediate 5 year interest free cash assistance with a moratorium period for 10 years to infuse strength to the industry.

Secretary General Hoteliers Club Tariq Rashid Ghani explained that tourism has been hit for many years especially for one year.

“There has been zero booking in the hotels for over one year due to no fault of ours. We need a robust, sustainable and long term financial package from the JK Government which will help the tourism sector bounce back. Rs 1350 cr financial package is nothing as compared to huge losses to various economic sectors,” he said.
