COVID-19 Pune: Sassoon General Hospital to get 400 beds from state government

Pune: Health Minister Rajesh Tope has admitted that Pune city is facing the problem of shortage of beds. The state health minister is on the visit to monitor the situation in Pune which has become the worst district in the nation in the spread of novel coronavirus.

Addressing the issue of beds, Rajesh Tope said, "Currently there are 450 beds in Sassoon General Hospital while we are going to rise that to 850. There are 607 doctors, professors, resident doctors and other healthcare staff at Sassoon. We are trying to put maximum doctors for COVID purpose."

He said private hospitals that have a plenty of ventilator beds and ICU beds have given five per cent to 10 per cent beds for the pandemic which is considerably low. He said, "As per our current requirement, private hospitals need to provide 80 per cent beds for COVID-19.”

Rajesh Tope on Sunday held a meeting with senior officials of Pune Division, Pune Collector, Pune Municipal Corporation officials, PCMC corporation officials and senior doctors of state-run Sassoon General Hospital. The meeting was held at the Sassoon Hospital Dean office.

Meanwhile, Pune city reported 1,700 new cases on Sunday According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the total number of COVID-19 cases in the city now stands at 1,31,781. From the total cases, 110,916 have been cured while 3,084 have lost their lives. There are still 17,781 active patients in the city who are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. There are 961 critical patients of which 494 are on ventilator support.
