Poultry producer Astral Foods' share price were down more than 4% on Monday, following an announcement that its CEO Chris Schutte was injured in a motorcycle accident on Saturday.
Schutte had been on road trip to celebrate his 60th birthday when the accident happened in a secluded part of the Great Karoo, he was airlifted to a medical facility in George where he is being treated for multiple fractures.
In its statement on Monday, the company that produces the Festive and Goldi chicken brands said Schutte will be moved to Johannesburg to undergo operations, once his condition has stabilised, the company said his recovery period is unknown at this stage.
The accident comes after Schutte’s and Astral chairman Theuns Eloff’s recovery last month, from Covid-19, which they had tested positive for in July. Astral’s CFO Daan Ferreira who had been running the company’s operations in Schutte’s absence, will once again take the reins while the CEO recovers from his injuries.
