Rename Paradip port after Biju Patnaik: BJD demands in Rajya Sabha

In the Rajya Sabha on Monday, the Biju Janata Dal demanded that Odisha's Paradip port be named after the former Chief Minister of the state, the late Biju Patnaik. Raising this issue during Zero Hour, Prasad Acharya of BJD said that there is a good tradition in the name of important institutions, establishments on great personalities in the country.


He said that the former Chief Minister of Odisha, late Biju Patnaik had not only participated in the freedom struggle of the country, but he has contributed significantly to the development of the country after independence.

Acharya said that Biju Patnaik, called the chief craftsman of modern Odisha, has had a special contribution in the establishment of the Paradip port of Odisha. Today, this port is one of the largest ports in the country.

Acharya demanded that the Paradip port should be named after Biju Patnaik.

In zero hours, TMC's GK Vasan raised the issue of manual scavenging. He said that despite the ban, this practice could not be completely banned.
