An eight-day monsoon session of Karnataka legislature began today under the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic. In the session today, the members paid homage to the departed leaders and others.
Former President Pranab Mukherjee, sitting member of Rajya Sabha Ashok Gasti, former union minister M V Rajsekharan, Indian Classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj, Kannada poet Nisar Ahmed and soldiers who laid down their lives in Galwan valley against China were among those who were paid tribute by the members today. All those attending the session underwent Covid tests, and only those found negative are attending the session.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C N Ashwathnarayan, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Civil Supplies minister K Gopalaiah and a few other legislators are among those who were tested positive and are under home quarantine. There are 10 new bills, 19 ordinances and two bills pending from the previous session that are likely to be taken up during this session.
