Agrarian reform needed for 21st century India; efforts will be made to make farmers self-reliant: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday termed the bills related to agricultural reforms passed by Parliament as historic and said on Monday that these reforms are the need of 21st century India and this will brighten the future of farmers. He convinced the farmers that neither the Minimum Support Price (MSP) nor the agricultural mandis would be abolished, but it would protect the interests of the farmers.


In his address to opposition parties, especially Congress, after the Prime Minister inaugurated optical fiber internet services to connect all the 45,945 villages of the state to the Internet and nine highway projects to be built at a cost of Rs 14,258 crore.

It is noteworthy that two important bills related to the agricultural sector, the Agricultural Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill-2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance Agreement and the Agreement on Agricultural Services Bill-2020, were approved by the Rajya Sabha on Sunday.

These bills have already been passed by the Lok Sabha. Thus, these Bills have got the approval of the Parliament, which will now be sent to the President for signature and will be notified on the approval of the President.

Modi said, "Yesterday the Parliament of the country passed very historic laws giving rights to farmers. For this, I congratulate the farmers of the country and also the hopeful people for India's bright future. This reform is needed by 21st century India. ''
