The Ministry of Home Affairs said on Monday that the Naxalite violence which once occupied 90 districts of the country, has now been reduced to 46 districts. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy told the Rajya Sabha that 90 districts of 11 states are believed to be affected by Left Wing Extremism and these districts were placed under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He said that as a result of various efforts of the government, the news of incidents of Naxal violence in 2019 came from 61 districts, and now in the first six months of the year 2020, reports of incidents of left-wing extremism came from only 46 districts. Reddy also said that from 2015 to August 15, 2020, 871 Naxalites died along with 350 security personnel and 963 civilians in Naxal-affected areas.
He also stated in a written reply that 4,022 Naxalites have surrendered during this period.
