DARTMOUTH -- A Fall River man who allegedly tried to break into a Dartmouth home didn't run far after being scared off by the homeowners.

It made for quick work for the responding K-9 team.

On Thursday, about 11 p.m., members of the Dartmouth Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Bakerville Road, after receiving a call from the resident reporting that someone had allegedly broken into their home, according to a press release from Dartmouth police.

The residents said they were awoken by a loud noise, investigated and "discovered that an unidentified male had entered their home through a window," the release states. "Upon confronting the male, he fled the residence on foot."

Dartmouth officers Jared White and Kyle Berube searched of the area with White's K-9 partner found the male suspect hiding in the wood line abutting the property.

The suspect, Roman Adnell, 44, of Fall River, was placed under arrest and charged with unarmed burglary and vandalism.

Police said Adnell attempted to gain entry by hitting the front door with a large rock.
