Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune Coronavirus News Live Updates: Maharashtra’s COVID-19 count rose to 12,24,380 on Monday with the addition of 15,738 new cases, state health department said. With 344 people succumbing to the infection, the cumulative toll in the state crossed the 33,000 mark and reached 33,015. Also, 200 of the 344 fatalities had occurred in the last 48 hours, while 81 deaths had taken place in the last week. 63 deaths had occurred in the period before the last week, the department said.

Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Monday said the number of beds for COVID-19 treatment in Sassoon General Hospital in Pune would be almost doubled. Tope, who is on a two-day tour, also said the process of recruiting doctors for the facility will be expedited.

The novel coronavirus tally in Thane rose to 1,58,703 after detection of 1,781 new cases in the Maharashtra district, an official said on Monday. Besides, the death toll increased to 4,143 as 27 more patients succumbed to the disease on Sunday.

Raj Thackeray fined Rs 1,000 for not wearing mask aboard ferry

MNS chief Raj Thackeray was fined Rs 1,000 for not wearing a face mask aboard a boat to Mandwa jetty in adjoining Raigad district, sources said on Monday. The incident happened on Friday when Thackeray, along with some family members and friends, was on board the Mumbai-Mandva RoRo boat. Officials on the boat pointed out that he had flouted the COVID-19 norms mandating the wearing of mask in public, after which he paid the Rs 1,000 fine, the sources said.

Thane COVID-19 tally reaches 1,58,703; maximum cases in Kalyan

The novel coronavirus tally in Thane rose to 1,58,703 after detection of 1,781 new cases in the Maharashtra district, an official said on Monday. Besides, the death toll increased to 4,143 as 27 more patients succumbed to the disease on Sunday, he said. As of now, there are 18,942 active COVID-19 cases in the district while 1,35,618 patients have recovered, he said. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the district is 85.45 per cent and the mortality rate is 2.61 per cent.

Half the increase in active cases in September from Maharashtra

In the month of September, the number of active cases of novel coronavirus in India has increased by about two lakh, nearly half of which has happened in Maharashtra. At the start of this month, Maharashtra had 1.98 lakh active Covid19 patients, which has gone up to more than 2.91 lakh now, an increase of more than 92,000, or 46 per cent.  Incidentally, this also comes out to be 46 per cent of the increase in entire India’s active cases during September.

Mumbai: MNS leaders board suburban trains to protest curbs

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders on Monday travelled in local trains, currently available only for essential services staff, as part of a protest to demand that the services be made available for common citizens also.

The Raj Thackeray-led party undertook the “savinay kaydebhang (civil disobedience) protest after its repeated demands to allow the general public to travel in local trains in Mumbai and suburbs.

Common citizens have not been allowed so far to travel in suburban trains given the COVID-19 outbreak.

Thane Covid-19 tally nears 1.59 lakh

The Covid-19 tally in Thane rose to 158,703 after 1,781 new cases were reported, PTI quoted an official as saying. The death toll rose to 4,143, with 27 more fatalities, the official said.

There are 18,942 active Covid-19 cases in the district while 135618 people have recovered. The recovery rate in the district is 85.45 per cent while the mortality rate is 2.61 per cent.

Kalyan accounted for the maximum cases 38,759, in the district, followed by 33,146 cases in Navi Mumbai and 32,863 cases in Thane.

State records over 20,000 new cases, death toll up by 455

Maharashtra on Sunday recorded as many as 20,598 new coronavirus positive cases, which took the state's overall tally to 12,08,642, the health department said. With the death of 455 patients, the state's fatality count mounted to 32,671, PTI reported.

Centre forms committees for inspection of Covid hospitals

The Centre has formed expert committees for inspection of government and other Covid facilities following directions of the Supreme Court, which took cognizance of shortcomings in the care of coronavirus patients in different hospitals in the country.

The expert committees constituted by the Ministry of Health have been tasked to inspect, supervise and guide government and other hospitals dedicated to COVID-19, the MoS Health Ashwini Choubey told the Rajya Sabha on Sunday.

Pune case count crosses 1.4 lakh

Pune reported 1,658 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its Covid-19 count to 1,30,081, while 39 deaths pushed the death toll to 3,046, PTI quoted an official as saying.

A total of 1,248 persons were discharged during the day, he added.

Dharavi's coronavirus infection count crosses 3,000

The count of coronavirus cases in Mumbai's Dharavi area crossed 3,000-mark Saturday with 25 new cases being detected, said an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The tally reached 3,018 on Saturday. It had crossed 2,500 on July 21.

Pune case count surge to 2.4 lakh

The Covid case count in Pune district surged to 2,44,516 with a single-day spike of 4,093 cases. The death toll in the district mounted to 5,536 with 85 more fatalties in a day, the health official said. Pimpri Chinchwad reported 843 new cases taking the tally to 68,493, the official said. The number of positive cases reported from the rural parts of the district, the civil hospital and areas within the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has risen to 47,654 so far, the official said.

Maha: 22 per cent suspects tested COVID-19 positive in Thane

At least 22 per cent of 7.12 lakh suspects tested for coronavirus so far in Maharashtra's Thane district have turned out be positive for the infection, an official said on Saturday. As many as 7,12,567 persons have been tested so far, of which 1,55,314 had contracted the infection, the official said. (PTI)

Earlier on Sunday, senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra minister Sudhir Mungantiwar tweeted that he had been detected with the novel coronavirus, reported PTI. He said he had isolated himself and requested those who had come in contact with him over the past few days to get themselves tested.

Mungantiwar was finance and forest minister in the previous Devendra Fadnavis government.

A 106-year-old woman from Thane district defeated Covid-19 and was discharged from hospital on Sunday with doctors and nurses giving her a warm farewell, PTI reported.

No hospital was ready to admit her due to her age when the Dombivali resident had contracted the disease, her daughter-in-law said.

Then she was admitted to the Covid-19 treatment facility set up by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) at Savlaram Krida Sankul (sports complex). "Doctors and medical teams there took proper care of her," her daughter-in-law said.

Maharashtra cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter to laud the KDMC staff and Shiv Sena's Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde for providing proper treatment to the elderly woman.
