Amendment bill related to insolvency law passed in Rajya Sabha, know why it was brought

Saturday is the sixth day of the monsoon session of Parliament. In the Rajya Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a Bill to amend the Insolvency and Insolvency Code, 2016. After discussing this, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 was passed in the Rajya Sabha.

Ordinance brought due to the unprecedented situation: Nirmala

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in the Rajya Sabha on Saturday that the Insolvency and Insolvency Code (Second Amendment) Ordinance was brought out due to the unprecedented situation created by the Kovid-19 epidemic. He said that due to the situation caused by the epidemic, there was a demand for time that immediate steps should be taken and the ordinance method chosen for that.

The Finance Minister said that the government brought the bill in the next session to make the ordinance a law. She was replying to the discussion on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment), 2020.

After his reply, the House passed the bill by voice. Simultaneously, the House rejected the resolution moved by CPI (M) member KK Ragesh in which it was proposed to reject the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2020. Earlier in the discussion on the bill, many members criticized the government for the ordinance.

In the context of the lockdown implemented due to the Kovid-19 pandemic, Nirmala Sitharaman said that at that time it was more important to protect lives than a livelihood. He said that it affected the people as well as the economy. But, saving the lives of common people was more important. However, he said that cognizance was taken on the problems caused to the people and the government took several steps.

Referring to the Insolvency and Insolvency Code, he said it was doing well and was successful in fulfilling its purpose.

Demand raised in Rajya Sabha to include Bhojpuri in the eighth schedule

In the Rajya Sabha on Saturday, a BJP member demanded that Bhojpuri be included in the eighth schedule of the constitution, saying that the government should urgently bring a bill to fulfill this demand that has been going on for almost 50 years.

BJP's Neeraj Shekhar, while raising the issue during the Zero Hour, said that the number of Bhojpuri speakers in the country is around 200 million and there are about 80 million people who speak Bhojpuri abroad.

He said that there is a large number of Bhojpuri speakers in Mauritius, Suriname, Nepal, and Uganda. This language has constitutional status in Mauritius and Nepal. Shekhar said that since 1969, there has been a demand to put Bhojpuri in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The government should immediately bring a bill to fulfill this demand that has been going on for the last nearly 50 years.
