The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to private schools, which directs them to provide free laptops/mobile phones to students from economically weaker sections in the national capital for their online classes.

The Delhi High Court gave this order in response to a PIL, directing private schools to provide laptops/mobile phones with high-speed Internet facilities to EWS category students.

The court passed the order on concerns that students in the EWS category were unable to take their online education during the COVID-19 epidemic due to a lack of resources and the unavailability of laptops and mobile phones.

In separate affidavits filed in the Delhi High Court, the four private schools stated that they are not obliged to provide free devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets, and internet to students belonging to EWS and disadvantaged groups.
