BSE Midcap closed 0.26 percent higher while BSE Smallcap index closed 0.32 percent lower.

Sensex closed 134 points or 0.34 percent lower at 38,845.82 on September 18 while Nifty ended 11 points or 0.10 percent down to 11,504.95. BSE Midcap added 0.26 percent but BSE Smallcap index closed in the red, dropping by 0.32 percent.

Cadila Healthcare | CMP: Rs 409 | The stock jumped 4 percent after media reports indicated that the company is in talks with Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Zydus Cadila to bring coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V" to India. RDIF and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories have joined hands in clinical trials and distribution of "Sputnik V" in India. The Indian drugmaker would also conduct Phase-3 clinical trials in the country for the vaccine, according to a Financial Express report.

Essel Propack | CMP: Rs 250.65 | The stock tumbled 8 percent after reports made rounds that the world’s biggest alternative asset manager Blackstone is planning to sell its stake in the firm. Blackstone is looking to sell a large chunk of its shareholding in the packaging firm through block trades. The deal could fetch the investor as much as USD 251 million, Mint reported. Epsilon Bidco Pte Ltd, a Blackstone entity which owns 75 percent of Essel Propack, is looking to sell up to 23 percent stake representing around 72.5 million shares of the company, according to deal terms.

Lupin, Cipla jump: The share price of Lupin gained over 4 percent while that of Cipla added 7 percent after the Irish pharma company Perrigo voluntarily recalled albuterol sulfate inhalation aerosols over concerns that some may not dispense properly due to clogging. This is expected to benefit Cipla and Lupin and other pharma players too. As per CNBC-TV18, global brokerage firm Macquarie said the setback for Perrigo has come as an unexpected positive for Lupin and Cipla.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories | CMP: Rs 5,306 | The stock jumped 10 percent after the company said it had settled patent litigation with US-based Bristol-Myers Squibb's unit, Celgene, over cancer treatment Revlimid. "In settlement of all outstanding claims in the litigation, Celgene has agreed to provide Dr Reddy's Labs with a license to sell volume-limited amounts of generic lenalidomide capsules in the US beginning on a confidential date after March 2022," said a regulatory filing by the company on September 17.

HDFC Bank | CMP: Rs 1058.90 | The share price was down over 2 percent on reports that US-based Rosen Law and Schall Law firms filed class-action lawsuits against the private lender. The law firms have filed class-action lawsuits against HDFC Bank accusing the company of making false and misleading statements and for failing to maintain appropriate disclosure controls and internal controls on financial reporting.

Finolex Cables | CMP: Rs 293.85 | The stock added 2 percent after Jefferies maintained a buy call on the stock. The research firm has retained a buy rating on the stock for a target of Rs 415 per share.

Arrow Greentech | CMP: Rs 50.05 | The share price gained 5 percent after the company informed that production operations will be recommenced at Ankleshwar plant as Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) issued interim revocation order.

Elantas Beck India | CMP: Rs 2640 | The stock gained 2 percent after the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Talegaon Industrial Parks for the acquisition of land situated at Pune, Maharashtra for setting up a new greenfield manufacturing facility.

LKP Securities | CMP: Rs 5.24 | The shares spiked 10 percent after Keynote Capitals acquired 4,41,000 equity shares of the company at Rs 4.65 per share. India Max Investment Fund also bought further 15,00,694 equity shares of the company at the same price.

RITES | CMP: Rs 255 | The stock ended in the green after the company's board approved a share buyback of up to 97 lakh shares at Rs 265.
