Following Wayde van Niekerk's impressive international return this week, South African sprinter Akani Simbine blitzed the opposition in winning the 100m race at the Diamond League event in Rome on Thursday evening.
Simbine broke the 10 second barrier in his victory, stopping the clock in 9.96 second ahead of Arthur Cisse of the Ivory Coast (10.04) and Filippo Tortu of Italy (10.09).
Hurdler Antonio Alkana, another South African athlete to compete at the event managed sixth place in the 110m hurdles.
On Tuesday, Van Niekerk won his first international race in over three years when he came first in the 400m at an athletics meet in Switzerland.
Van Niekerk stopped the clock in 45.58 seconds ahead of Joachem Dobber of the Netherlands (45.78) and Karel Zalewski of Poland (46.03).
