It is said that on the very day of Mahalaya Amavasya, Mother Durga appeared and she liberated this earth from sinners. Actually Mahalaya is considered to be the beginning of Durga Puja and the end of Pitrupaksha. On this day, Mother Durga is prayed to come to earth.
This year, due to more months, Navratri will come a month later i.e. on October 17. Therefore, the festival of worship of Goddess Durga will be celebrated from October 17 to October 25 this year. Incidentally, today is also the birthday of Prime Minister Modi.
