FOXBORO – On Wednesday, the Patriots promoted undrafted cornerback Myles Bryant up from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. On Thursday, the rookie was running circles around the Patriots defense.

During the media’s practice availability, Bryant was emulating Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. The rookie could be seen scrambling in the backfield with Patriots pass rushers giving chase. Bryan would role out to the right or left and keep moving before firing the football downfield.

Bryant rotated in and out of this drill with practice squad quarterback Jake Dolegala. He would do the same thing, scrambling to the right or left, but also stands 6-foot-7. Bryant, at 5-foot-9, certainly had a similar build to the 5-foot-11 Wilson.

The Patriots have been known to use defensive backs when emulating athletic quarterbacks. In 2018, Keion Crossen was used in practice to help the Patriots defense prepare for Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson. Wilson has 4,022 career rushing yards so the defense certainly will need to prepare for a mobile quarterback.

On Thursday, the Patriots had perfect practice attendance for the second day in a row. The first injury report had the team with six limited players – Julian Edelman (knee), N’Keal Harry (shoulder), Adam Butler (shoulder), Brandon Copeland (knee) and Jonathan Jones (foot).

With Jones limited, it’s likely the Patriots wanted more depth at slot cornerback. That would explain why Bryant was added to the 53-man roster this week.
