Now authorities find themselves in a bind over having had to reject the "Made in China" label at a time when they are cracking down on activists opposing and the city's pro-Beijing government.

Commerce Secretary Edward Yau said he formally asked the US consulate to relay Hong Kong's request for withdrawal of the new regulations to US trade officials.

"Such regulations go contrary to WTO (World Trade Organization) regulations and infringe upon our rights as a separate customs region," Yau told reporters. "We are a separate, and indeed, independent member of the WTO." Yau, who first complained about Washington's move in August, said Hong Kong reserved the right to seek dispute settlement at the WTO.

The comments come a day after the WTO ruled that additional tariffs imposed by the against in 2018 were inconsistent with global trading rules.

Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997 under a one country, two systems agreement that promised it a high degree of autonomy for 50 years.

Many credit its unbridled capitalism, guarantees of a wide range of rights and freedoms, and independent legal system with helping Hong Kong to prosper as a global financial hub and interface for China and the world.

But critics say the new security law, targeting activities that Beijing considers to be subversion, secessionism, terrorism or collusion with foreign forces, effectively brings Hong Kong closer to China's authoritarian system.

Supporters of the law say it will bring stability after a year of anti-government protests.

The has extended until Nov. 9 its enforcement deadline on the "Made in China" label, from Sept. 25 previously.

Asus ROG Phone 3 detailed review

The ROG Phone 3 is the third iteration of Asus’ gaming smartphone, a niche it has meticulously carved (along with a handful of others, of course) to serve a growing community of smartphone enthusiasts and gamers. Primarily gamers. Lending the ROG brand to the device certainly infuses confidence considering the prowess it holds in the PC segment for gaming machines. And amidst a host of well-tuned flagships quite capable of delivering excellent gaming performance, the ROG Phone 3 deviously includes these minor, but significant features that make this the weapon of choice for anyone even remotely considering smartphone gaming as a career option.

The ROG Phone 3 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+, the same flagship SoC found in the OnePlus 8 Pro, but speed-binned to make the Kryo 585 prime core to run at 3.1GHz instead of 2.8GHz. The Snapdragon 865+ also has the same Adreno 650 GPU, but tuned to run 10 per cent faster. At the top edge of smartphone computing, these numbers may not mean much for the average joe, but for a gamer, these are certainly some things to boast about.

But that’s not where the feature-list ends, and it’s important to list them out before even starting the review because it’s ultimately these features that sets this smartphone apart. These are the Air Triggers, and a 144Hz AMOLED display with 270Hz touch sampling and 25ms touch latency. Any PC gamer will tell you having the fastest CPU and GPU are only a part of the whole setup. The display and peripherals are equally important. That’s exactly what the ROG Phone 3 proves when it comes to smartphone gaming as well.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Benchmark Analysis

With the internals onboard, the Asus ROG Phone 3 is clearly the most powerful smartphone you can buy right now. Our unit was running on the Snapdragon 865+ along with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.0 storage and managed to beat all other Android devices launched this year on benchmarks, by a good margin. There’s also a variant with 16GB RAM which we presume will post even higher scores on benchmarks.

The ROG Phone 3 also has a software tweak that unleashes higher compute power from the Snapdragon 865+, called the X Mode. It’s a performance-enhancing mode which gets triggered when you launch games to eke out better performance. Turning the X Mode on during benchmarks also gave higher scores. And the difference is quite significant.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Gaming

Everything about the ROG Phone 3’s design is off-putting for using as a daily driver. It weighs like a brick and looks gigantic in front of its contemporaries, but it's right when you start to play a game that every little decision taken about the ROG Phone 3 start to make sense. Asus offers what is perhaps the most personalised gaming experience on a smartphone, and it achieves so using a four-pronged approach —

1. The weight and dimensions add to a vice-like grip when held in landscape orientation for gaming. There is an additional USB-C port on the side to charge while gaming, and front-facing speakers that are perhaps the loudest you will ever come across on a smartphone. And then there are the AirTriggers.

2. The AirTriggers are not new to the ROG Phone lineup, but this time they have mutated. You can now map up to four functions on the two shoulder buttons, and even bind a function to motion control. Using the whole suite of abilities takes time to get used to, but once you do it leaves you a lot more space for your thumbs to shoot and aim. The AirTriggers are also instantly responsive, but my only gripe is you can’t control the haptic intensity of them, which is a little too intensive.

3. The 6.59-inch AMOLED display is the most impactful, however. It’s not as much the 144Hz refresh rate that gives you the edge, but the fast response times that make this the best gaming smartphone to use in competitive scenarios. The ROG Phone 3 boasts of 270Hz touch sampling and 25ms touch latency and using the touchscreen while gaming is a clear advantage, provided you learn to wield it to perfection. Like the AirTriggers, the touch sensitivity is way too high at default settings. For Call of Duty: Mobile, I had to dial down the touch and slide sensitivities from the Armoury crate to get this sensitive-being under control.

4. The Armoury Crate is the most unique weapon in this phone’s arsenal. It’s an app where games installed are garaged, giving you stats and recordings, and a place to tune the performance to death, for every individual games. It’s also a place that’d be instantly familiar to ROG PC and laptop users, showing the CPU, GPU, temperature values. Here, you can tune every aspect of the gaming performance — CPU and GPU core frequencies, thermal thresholds, scheduler, governor and more. These settings can be saved as presets and can now be shared with fellow ROG Phone 3 users.

All four aspects combined, what you get is comprehensively the most spectacular gaming performance from the ROG Phone 3. It’s not as much the hardware inside that gives it an edge, but more of what is outside, the things you touch and feel on the smartphone - like the display, the trigger buttons and the unique design elements, which offer an edge over others.

Ironically though, the ROG Phone 3 simply refused to be benchmarked by the GameBench application which we use to record frame rates data in real-time. That’s likely because the X Mode was killing background processes to focus solely on the game I was playing. However, we relied on the in-game metrics display to gauge the frame rates games delivered, and most of the popular games like Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Real Racing 3, Infinity Ops and the likes hit peak framerates with no perceivable drop in frames.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Sustained Performance

The thermals, however, were a little on the higher side. Little is an understatement. The phone managed to go up to 82 degrees while running AnTuTu with X Mode On, becoming nearly untouchable. And it took some 30 seconds for the phone to return to temperatures below 50 degrees. It’s not surprising that Asus has locked the Level 3 X Mode until the AeroActive Cooler accessory is attached to the phone. This phone heats up like crazy. The area right below the camera module got unbearably hot after a Battle Royale match on PUBG Mobile. Yet, this does not seem to impact performance, much.

The ROG Phone 3 throttled to only 89% of its max performance after 45 minutes of running the CPU Throttle Test. In the same test, the OnePlus 8 Pro throttled to 75% of its max performance. It means the heat dissipation system in the ROG Phone 3 works to keep the machine running even with all the heat generated. And the surface temperature can be kept in check with the AeroActive Cooler accessory.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Software

When setting up, the ROG Phone 3 offers two UI options — Asus’ gaming-flavoured Apex theme or the classic stock Android theme. The underlying interface is essentially stock Android with nearly no additional third-party apps. And within this stock framework, Asus has incorporated the Armoury Crate where I spent the most time. It’s a fascinating piece of work and we have already spoken of the things you can do with it. Outside of it, the ROG Phone 3 is like using any other stock Android smartphones, with swift transitions, the Google Discover feed on the home screen, and the overall lightweight, no-frills feel of vanilla Android.

There are a few bugs like background apps crashing, and the occassional stutter and aim reset in games, but over the week I was using the phone, there were already two updates issued fixing some of the issues that were there. The ROG Phone II took its own sweet time to get the update to Android 10, but going by the pace by which Asus is fixing bugs on the ROG Phone 3, things are looking up.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Camera

The ROG Phone 3 is a smartphone meant for gaming, but Asus did spend good resources on the camera setup, even though it’s clear this wasn’t high priority. There’s a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, the one that’s present on the Poco X2 on the primary camera with f/1.8 lens, another 13MP ultrawide lens and a 5MP macro lens. On the front is a single 24MP selfie shooter housed in a thin, bezel.

During the day, the camera is decent enough. The 64MP primary camera took some good shots during sunset, but the dynamic range and the vibrance are noticeably lacking when compared against the OnePlus 8 Pro. At night too, the images are not too bright even when shot using the night mode, and frankly, you can get far better images from other flagships available in this price range.

Honestly, we haven’t taken too many samples as of now, because Asus warned us of impending updates improving camera performance. So we will revisit this section in a few weeks for a more comprehensive opinion.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Battery

Part of what made me use the ROG Phone II as my daily driver was the insane battery life I used to get from the phone when I was out covering launch events and shooting. The phone, when not used up for gaming, lasted well over a day. With the same 6,000mAh battery, the ROG Phone 3 is no different. Even at 144Hz refresh rate, the ROG Phone 3 lasted well over 29 hours on a single charge. And this was with my endless benchmark runs, gaming and binging Top Gear episodes. For a better idea, playing 15 minutes of Call of Duty: Mobile dropped battery by 4 per cent, while 30 minutes of watching Indian Matchmaking (that’s enough for the eyes and mind) dropped charge by 5 per cent.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Design

The ROG Phone 3, when used as a daily driver, feels bulky and unusable because of the form factor, especially when you get comfortable using the tall and slim phones. But the ROG Phone 3 is also not meant for those users. As we said before, every little thing about the smartphone feels logical when you hold it in the gaming grip.

Having said that, Asus has toned down the aesthetics on the ROG Phone 3 as compared to the predecessor. It’s still roughly the same size and weight (kept to ensure backwards compatibility with the new accessories) but the gaming aesthetics are more muted. The RGB-lit ROG logo at the back is just as prominent, though. I’d have liked a few more LED light strips on the body, but this one is enough to say I mean business.

What is disappointing is the 3.5mm headphone jack is gone. What you get instead is a USB-C dongle to connect wired earphones and the only reason to go through this hassle is that the ROG Phone 3 also supports hi-res audio.

Asus ROGP Phone 3 Display

The 6.59-inch panel is the centre of attention on the ROG Phone 3. It doesn’t have the modern punch-hole design and instead comes with thin, but significant bezels on the top and bottom. The old-school form factor helps with the grip, preventing the palms from inducing accidental touches. And the 144Hz refresh rate is by far the fastest on a smartphone display, but it’s not immediately distinguishable from the OnePlus 8 Pro’s 120Hz panel. On the other hand, as mentioned before, the fast touch sampling rate and low touch latency make this the most responsive panel I’ve used before. Typing, swiping and scrolling on this is monstrously fast.

The large screen is also quite good for streaming movies and shows, thanks to its HDR support for the major streaming platforms. However, it’s not as bright as the OnePlus 8 Pro, or even the ROG Phone II, which breached the 1000 nits mark in our lab, which is quite disappointing.

Bottomline

I think by now we have comprehensively demonstrated what this smartphone is capable of when it comes to gaming. Every element of the smartphone has been decided with gaming in mind. An insanely responsive display, cutting-edge hardware, AirTriggers, and loud audio, offers an unfair advantage against other players using vanilla smartphones. It’s not that you will get better frame rates from the popular games from this phone, but aiming, shooting and moving is the most responsive on the ROG Phone 3.

So, even with all the horsepower inside, you can’t race the ROG Phone 3 on the Autobahn; because the Android gaming ecosystem only offers a two-lane highway to drive this beast. Despite the raw power, the eventual experience offered by the ROG Phone 3 is the same as any other Android flagship of 2020. We hear that it’s also Google Stadia ready, but until the service improves or launches (or both) for mass usage, the ROG Phone 3 may just feel a bit too overkill, but for good reason.

India should take the lead on vaccine delivery: Bloomberg

India should take the lead on vaccine delivery: Bloomberg

September 16, 2020, 1:05 pm IST Foreign Media | World | TOI
By Mihir Sharma

The pressures of the pandemic have fallen hardest on developing countries with weak governments. They’re struggling to determine who is being infected and why, and to mitigate the economic impact of lockdowns and social distancing measures. If dealing with Covid-19 is stressing those states, however, the effort required to end the pandemic may exhaust them.

Speaking to the Financial Times this week, the Indian vaccine manufacturer Adar Poonawalla — whose Serum Institute of India plans to produce a billion doses of an eventual vaccine, far in excess of any of its competitors — warned that vaccinating “everyone on this planet” poses an enormous governance challenge. He says there’s no “proper plan on paper” for distributing any successful vaccine; Serum may well provide 500 million doses to an Indian government that has no way to get them to people. And India’s infant immunization program has at least given the country some distribution capacity. The problem is worse elsewhere.

One critical challenge will be storage and transportation. Some of the vaccines that use the new messenger RNA technology will need to be stored at subzero temperatures, as low as minus-70 or minus-80 degrees Celsius. The vaccine being developed by AstraZeneca PLC, which the Serum Institute has licensed, can reportedly be stored in standard refrigerated environments. But even managing a regular vaccine cold chain is enormously difficult.

To anyone with experience of developing-world public health infrastructure, the World Health Organization’s recommendations for managing vaccine transport make for depressing reading. The vaccine alliance GAVI’s briefing on the first-choice storage machinery — ice-lined refrigerators — is equally sobering. Each can cost thousands of dollars. Off-grid, solar-driven refrigerators, which might be needed in countries with unreliable power supply, are even more expensive.

In the developed world, big investments are already being made in scaling up cold-chain infrastructure: UPS, for example, is putting millions of dollars into new “freezer farms” near air hubs in the U.S. and western Europe. Companies are unlikely to make similar investments on spec in the developing world, however. Even countries such as India, which have had some experience and success with “mission” projects in healthcare, might struggle at the expense involved in creating single-use transportation and storage infrastructure, at scale, on short notice.

This is where the economic policy community needs to step in. Getting hundreds of millions of vaccine doses out to the poorest and most remote parts of the globe is in everyone’s interest; in the words of Merck and Co. Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Frazier, “none of us are safe until all of us are safe.” Solutions exist if governments, multilateral agencies, and private capital are willing to explore them.

In India, for example, the government could collaborate with private capital and multilateral lenders to set up a holding company focused on developing, distributing and installing dual-use cold chain infrastructure. India’s National Centre for Cold-Chain Development — yes, it has one — has long argued that there are “synergies” between agricultural, processed-food, and medical cold-chain infrastructure.

Done right, a large network of refrigerated storage and transport created for the pandemic could have wider uses. An efficient cold chain would help permanently raise farmers’ access to markets, reduce wastage and control food inflation.

Of course, this will require ministries to talk to one another, arrange de-risking mechanisms and guarantees, and then rope in possible investors. The effort will be worth it, though: If a mechanism can be evolved in India, other developing countries should be able to replicate it. Without one, it’s hard to see how those nations will escape the pandemic even with a vaccine.

Pandemic Cuts Marine Refuel Demand, Driving Consolidation Among Bunker Suppliers - IBIA

Global demand for marine fuels is expected to fall by up to 17% due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on world trade, setting the stage for more consolidation among bunker suppliers, an industry executive told a conference on Wednesday.

    • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 1:36 PM IST

SINGAPORE: Global demand for marine fuels is expected to fall by up to 17% due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on world trade, setting the stage for more consolidation among bunker suppliers, an industry executive told a conference on Wednesday.

Banks scaled back on their commodities trade finance after the coronavirus crisis led to defaults by some trading houses and exposed a series of frauds, leaving small and medium sized firms most exposed.

Unni Einemo, director of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), said firms were contending with low demand, low margins, ample supplies, increased counter-party risk, and constrained access to capital.

“Because of that we might expect further consolidation through mergers and acquisitions or attrition,” Einemo told the virtual Platts APPEC 2020 conference, adding that some firms could be forced to quit the market.

“Global bunker demand is expected to decrease significantly in 2020, even if it had held up quite well (in April and May),” Einemo said.

IBIA’s members forecast a 7%-17% drop in bunker fuel demand globally in 2020, she said.

Global marine fuel demand is estimated at about 300 million tonnes per annum, or about 5.2 million barrels per day (mbpd).

In its latest report released on Tuesday, the International Energy Agency said “fuel oil demand, which includes marine bunker as well as power generation and industrial uses, is forecast to decline by only 0.4 mbpd, or 6.3% in 2020,” the IEA said in its monthly report on Tuesday.

Most bunkering markets saw a big drop in June, with some seeing a “staggering” 30%-40% year-on-year contraction, although Singapore has to be among the least affected markets, said Einemo.

Singapore, by far the world’s top bunkering hub, saw year-on-year growth in marine fuel sales every month this year with the exception of May and June which contracted by just 2% each, official data showed.

Singapore’s resilience has a lot to do with it “having the widest variety of fuels on offer (and) it has become a preferred port because buyers are confident they are going to get the quality and quantity they are buying,” said Einemo.

But in other hubs like in the United Arab Emirates’ Fujairah, bunkering demand plummeted as the spreading coronavirus slowed shipping activity.

India on Tuesday described Pakistan as an epicenter of terrorism and said no one deserves unsolicited lecture on human rights from Islamabad that has consistently persecuted its ethnic and religious minorities including Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. Exercising the Right of Reply to the statements made by Pakistan at the 45th session of Human Rights Council (HRC) here, the Indian representative said that it has become habitual for Pakistan to malign India with false and fabricated narratives for its self-serving malicious purposes.

"Neither India nor others deserve this unsolicited lecture on human rights from a country that has consistently persecuted its ethnic and religious minorities, is an epicenter of terrorism, has the distinction of providing pensions to individuals on UN Sanctions list and has a Prime Minister who proudly admits training tens of thousands of terrorists to fight in Jammu and Kashmir," the Indian diplomat said.

The diplomat said that it was not surprising that other relevant multilateral institutions have been raising serious concerns on Pakistan's failure to stop terror financing and lack of effective actions against all terror entities in Pakistan. Highlighting the nefarious designs of Pakistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the diplomat said, "the mass influx of outsiders has whittled down the number of Kashmiris to an insignificant number in Pakistan occupied parts of Indian Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Laddakh. "In its zeal to reassert its theocratic ideology, it has ensured that ethnic and religious minorities have no future through systematic persecution, blasphemy laws, forced conversions, targeted killings, sectarian violence and faith-based discrimination," the diplomat said.

"Thousands of Sikh, Hindus and Christian minority women and girls have been subjected to abductions, forced marriages and conversions in Pakistan." On the plight of people in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, the Indian diplomat said, "Not a single day has gone by when a family in Balochistan doesn't find its members picked up or kidnapped by the security forces of Pakistan. "Pakistan does well when it comes to intimidation and attacks against journalists, human rights defenders and political dissidents in particular by its state machinery. It is not without a reason that Pakistan has been highlighted by international organizations as a country where journalists are slain and their killers go scot free, the diplomat said.

India also slammed Pakistan for abusing various HRC mechanisms and platforms for raising issues, which are extraneous to the mandate of the HRC and which relate to internal affairs of India, with a view to distract the attention of the international community from serious human rights violations committed by it against its own people, including in Indian territories occupied by it. India also rejected the reference made by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. "The OIC has no locus standi to comment on internal affairs of India. The OIC has allowed itself to be misused by Pakistan to subverse its own Agenda. It's for the members of the OIC to decide if it is in their interests to allow Pakistan to do so, the Indian representative said.

India also advised Turkey to refrain from commenting on its internal affairs and develop a better understanding of the democratic practices.

Shopper issues warning after her $6 Kmart candle 'exploded' and left hot wax all over her table - and she's not the only one

    • A shopper, from Perth, has claimed her $6 scented candle from Kmart 'exploded'
    • The woman was stunned to find the remnants of the candle after jar cracked
    • She wanted to issue a warning so other shoppers can be 'careful' with the candle

A shopper has issued a warning after claiming her $6 scented candle from Kmart spontaneously 'exploded', leaving hot wax all over her table.

The woman, from Perth, was stunned to find the remnants of the green pear honey suckle and neroli candle, with broken glasses after the hot jar cracked into pieces.

'Just a warning to be careful if you are a Kmart candle lover! Exploded and leaked candle wax all over side table,' she wrote in a Facebook group.

'Lucky no one was close. Let off a good crack.'

The candle in question is no longer in stock online.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kmart for comment.

Dozens of people claimed they had a similar experience with their budget candles, while others described the incident as 'dangerous' and 'scary'.

'This happened to me once and I haven't brought candles from Kmart since,' one man claimed, while another said: 'I had this happen with this candle too.'

Many quickly pointed out an overlong wick or not enough wax can cause the candle's glass surround to shatter.

'I had this happen with this candle [from Kmart] too. I didn't have a lot of wax left in it though so I assumed it was because of that... I was silly,' one woman admitted.

A second woman said: 'If there's not much wax left in them the glass, it gets too hot and will explode.'

A third woman added: 'There's many factors to how this can happen. Wick size is a big issue in the Kmart candles. We should be trimming wick when necessary to avoid the flame being so huge. This makes it less hot and less likely to shatter the glass.'

And another shopper said: 'This can happen if you burn past a certain point, on most labels it will give you a warning not to burn past a certain amount.'

Others defended the retailer, saying Kmart should not be blamed as other expensive brands are also prone to overheating and exploding.

In 2016, a shopper claimed he suffered serious burns to his hands after he tried to stop a $6 candle from Kmart from setting his home on fire after the glass 'exploded' in his bedroom

In 2016, a shopper claimed he suffered serious burns to his hands after he tried to stop a $6 candle from Kmart from setting his home on fire after the glass 'exploded' in his bedroom

'I've had this happen with another branded candle and the response from the company was that once it gets to a certain point at the bottom to no longer burn as the wax is no longer able to keep the glass cool while lit,' one woman said.

'Stupid I know, best believe I've not bought one since.'

And a second woman said: 'I have had this happen with a candle from another brand. It can happen with any of them.'

In another post on social media this week, one shopper claimed her 75 cent scented candle from Kmart left a 'petrol' smell.

'I brought the salted caramel candle today and lit it up for an hour. It smelt amazing but I had to leave so I blew it out. When I came home my house smelt really badly of petrol,' she claimed.

In October 2016, a shopper claimed he suffered serious burns to his hands after he tried to stop a $6 candle from Kmart from setting his Gold Coast home on fire after the glass 'exploded' in his bedroom.

The man told Daily Mail Australia at the time there was and a 'huge, uncontrollable flame' that almost touched the ceiling coming from what was left of the candle.

'While trying to avoid burning the house down I tried to blow the candle out but to no avail and had no option but to pick it and run to remove it from danger,' he said.

However, he dropped candle as it burned his hands, leaving wax and glass all over a hallway while his wife rushed him to hospital.

'We test our candles, list safety instructions and when adhered to the product is safe to use,' a Kmart Australia spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia in 2016.

'We encourage all those who own a candle to review these instructions as a safety precaution.'

    Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 3s Max is a battery-centric smartphone, and it does last long. However, at Rs. 14,999, the compromises make little sense. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 offers just an hour or lesser battery life and gives you a better camera and performance. If you can afford to spend more, the Lenovo P2 offers almost 40% more battery life than this smartphone.

Asus Zenfone 3s Max detailed review

Battery and Android updates, these are two very common problems with Android smartphones today. Think back to the long list of smartphones online, Google launched Android Nougat months ago, but there are a handful devices on the new version, at best.

It is that problem that Asus is addressing with its newest device. The Asus Zenfone 3s Max has a 5000 mAh battery and comes with Android Nougat out-of-the-box. So, when we review the Zenfone 3s Max, these are amongst its biggest plus points. However, that isn’t all you need in a smartphone now, is it? The Zenfone 3s Max hasn't been launched in India, so we can't quite tell you whether to buy it or not. As a standalone device, though, it is open for analysis. Here's ours, with tests done over the past two weeks.

    Battery

Beginning with the part Asus puts on its marketing material, the phone has a huge battery inside and is designed to last long. And so it does, with an excellent PC Mark battery score of over 14 hours. The Zenfone 3s Max is also above average in terms of idle battery drop, which is important for a phone that has to last long.

In general, such benchmark results would amount to at least two days of real world usage. However, it doesn’t quite translate that way. When using the Zenfone 3s Max, battery life is only about a full 24 hours. That’s about a full work day and then 12 more hours.

Gaming on the device takes up about 4% battery in 15 mins and about 10% in an hour. In theory, you can get about 10 hours of gaming from this device with the display turned to 100%.

Similarly, idle battery drop is about 2% every 12 odd hours. This is amongst the highest on the market today. It can also reverse charge other devices.

The phone has five power saver modes and is set to Normal by default. You can turn it to Performance Mode to get maximum performance, but it doesn’t make a big different in regular terms. The battery life differs by about an hour at best. Numbers given above are all on Normal mode.

It is clear that the Zenfone 3s Max’s battery life is better than most other smartphones. It is, however, worth mentioning that the Lenovo P2 does much better on regular usage and on benchmarks.

    Operating System and ZenUI

As mentioned above, the Zenfone 3s Max runs on Android Nougat, layered with a new version of Asus’ ZenUI. It looks the same aesthetically and is just as frustrating as it has ever been.

Asus has added a Spotlight search like feature this time, which often interferes with the notification drop down. The former is accessed by swiping down anywhere on the screen, while the latter appears when you swipe down from the top. As a result, the search comes up often when you’re going for the Notifications drop down.

Moreover, ZenUI is just as bloated as ever. Asus’ Mobile Manager keeps scanning apps I don’t want it to and keeps sending notifications that I haven’t asked for. In fact, ZenUI’s myriad apps and background functions may be the primary reason for the Zenfone 3s Max having lower battery life than the Lenovo P2.

After the first boot, apps like Mini Movie, Mobile Manager etc. will overwhelm you with all the notifications they generate. We tried disabling every last one of them (most can’t be uninstalled) and it doesn’t affect usability at all, except making more resources available to the user. Asus needs to make its UI more stock like, as Lenovo has done.

    Performance

Now, we do appreciate having Android Nougat out-of-the-box, Asus’ choice of a MediaTek SoC is confusing. For one, it would have been easier to tailor the OS to a Snapdragon SoC. Secondly, the Snapdragon 625 is much more efficient for a battery-focused smartphone.

The Zenfone 3s Max runs on the MediaTek MT6750T octa-core SoC and 3GB of RAM and its performance is not the best. Benchmarks aside, the phone shows sloth often. For example, the fingerprint sensor on the front is slow to react. Similarly, apps take longer than usual to load. Especially heavier apps like gaming.

    AnTuTu 6.0

    Geekbench 4 Single Core

    Geekbench 4 Multi Core

    3D Mark Unlimited

In particular, Amazing Spiderman 2 froze often and even crashed twice. This could be a result of memory overload or a faulty UI. Even Asphalt 8 stuttered at times and overall frame rates dropped after about 20 minutes of gaming.

The overall performance, though functional, is far from ideal, especially considering the Zenfone 3s Max’s competition.

    Display

In order to improve battery life, Asus has chose HD resolution for the display. However, given the phone’s performance and overall battery life, this doesn’t make sense to me. Lenovo achieved much more without compromising on such specs.

720p doesn’t make for low pixel density on a 5.2 inch panel. 282 ppi is easy enough to get onboard with, but colours on the Zenfone 3s Max are calibrated differently this time. Colour tones are a tad warmer than other Zenfones, though black levels aren't very good.

Overall, the display works for regular usage. Touch response is fine and 2.5D glass adds a premium touch.

    Camera

The Zenfone 3s Max has a 13MP camera on the back and 8MP camera on the front. Image quality wise, the camera isn’t up to the mark. Low light images lack details often and colours are desaturated too, despite Asus’ algorithms trying to make photos brighter. However, photos taken in natural light, or even indoors, are passable and will easily work for sharing on social media. The Zenfone 3s Max takes sharp enough photos, with reasonably true to source colours in this case.

Asus Zenfone 3s Max Camera Samples

Overall, the Zenfone 3s Max’s camera is decent, but it doesn’t make for the best you can buy. With the right pricing, this camera may be acceptable, but phones like the Honor 6x etc. can easily do much better.

    Build and Design

The 3s Max also has a new design compared to other Zenfones. The phone has a square camera module on the to left side of the back panel. The fingerprint sensor is webbed into the home button on the front, and it has a more rounded design.

Asus concentric circles design is missing, except for the power button. The edges are rounded, with the antenna bands on the top edge of the device. In pictures, the phone can look like an iPhone, however, it doesn’t really feel the same.

The mono speaker grilles are on the bottom, with the micro-USB port between them and the phone has on-screen buttons.

    Audio Quality

Asus says the speakers on this device are supplied by AAC, the same company responsible for Apple’s iPhone 7 (review) speaker. The audio is loud enough, but not very high quality. You’ll get by with headphone, but much like most other smartphones, it isn’t meant for listening to music without them. It has a mono speaker with one grille just for show.

    Bottomline

From this, we're certain that the Asus Zenfone 3s Max is a decent smartphone. However, without the pricing, we cannot yet surmise whether it will be worth buying or not. It battery life is substantially lower than the Lenovo P2 (review) and other aspects pale in comparison to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (review), Honor 6X (review) or Coolpad Cool 1 (review). On its own, the Zenfone 3s Max seems to be a device suited for a budget pricing, however, at Rs. 14,999, we have to recommend the other devices mentioned here over this one. The compromises made by Asus make little sense to us given the competition it is facing in the market.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge plus detailed review

They say that to be the best you need to ape the best. For years, Samsung has blatantly copied features that have defined the iPhone and tried to improve upon them, and yet managed to miss the mark with its sub par build quality, childish TouchWiz icons and lacklustre overall appeal. Over the years, Samsung’s Galaxy S series have defined themselves as the go to devices for a flagship Android experience. In the past two years, Samsung has worked at adding another element to its flagship line-up – style and that is what the S6 Edge Plus is. It’s a style statement, a statement that says I am the best there is and what I do is better than the rest. Samsung doesn’t need to ape the best anymore. But is it the best?

    Build and design

Samsung’s flagship devices were notorious for being plasticky and Samsung changed that with the Galaxy S6. And there was no going back. Coming to the phone in question, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the device has a design very reminiscent of its sibling, the Galaxy S6 Edge with the biggest difference being that the smartphone has a larger display, which is curved on both the sides. There is a larger battery and more RAM as well, but that’s all under the hood. This gives edge-to-edge design a whole new meaning and feeling when holding it.

Hold the device for the first time and you will feel odd, very odd. Usually smartphones have a flat display and a curved back. This adds to the ergonomic design of a phone making it comfortable to hold and more importantly making it easy to lift off a table. Here however, the roles have been reversed. The display of the smartphone feels curved because of; you guessed it, the curved edges. And the rather stiff flat back of the Edge Plus makes it uncomfortable to hold and use at first. Even a simple task like picking up the smartphone from a table feels different because the back is so flat and the curved glass is so slippery that you will have to make an effort to pick it up.

Coming to the back, the metal body is overlaid with glass and from the minute you touch it, it is a fingerprint magnet. The rear also houses the camera and that’s about it, clean and elegant. The camera protrudes slightly but that’s ok. The bottom of the smartphone has the headphones jack accompanied by the speaker and the microUSB port. The top has the nano SIM card slot and the right has the power button. The volume rocker rests on the left and considering the small footprint of the borders of the smartphone, the buttons though small are easy to find without looking.

Last but not least, we have the front of the smartphone. Sure, here we have the curved display, but below that rests the one physical button which is a fingerprint sensor as well. On either side of the fingerprint scanner we have the multitasking and the back button.

Overall the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a beautiful design that will definitely turn heads but at the cost of ergonomics.

    Display

Boy-o-boy is it beautiful. The 5.7-inch display has a 2K resolution. Yes, for a smartphone a 2K resolution is overkill, but the Super AMOLED display looks stunning. I am currently using a OnePlus One and an iPhone 6 and I can’t go back to those phones. Watching videos, be it YouTube or locally stored videos on the device is a treat. Despite the fact that you can tell the difference between a low resolution and high-resolution video, the low-resolution videos still looked good. And by low-resolution videos, I mean 720p videos. Even pictures that you click from the device or the ones that you view online look awesome. The colours just pop.

The only downside here is that the edges are more of a distraction than an addition when watching videos. It’s distracting to see the black bars on videos curve around the display and even more distracting to see the video curve around the display running in full screen.

    UI

I haven’t used a Samsung smartphone as my daily driver for a long time so coming back to TouchWiz was like meeting a childhood friend after a while, it's still familiar but all grown up. Everything though familiar is a little different. It’s matured. Swipe right on the display and you will see Flipboard integrated that will give you a newsfeed. On a Nexus phone, this is where you’d find Google Now. Sure, Flipboard adds freezes your phone for a second, but it's still something many of us use and find useful.

Coming to the rest of the UI, its what you’ve seen on the Galaxy S6 or the S6 Edge. You have the ability to run two apps simultaneously, use the phone in ‘single hand’ mode and more. If you are one that’s used a Samsung phone before, you will feel right at home.

    I am the edge

Coming to the curves there is no practical use for it. Not yet anyways. Sure, you can see your notifications pop up on the curve or you can simply swipe the right side of the display to bring up your favourite contacts and apps but I can do this by simply installing a third party app on any Android phone. Just like Samsung’s Note devices took a while to define the utility of the S-Pen, we think it will be quite a while before we can justify the utility of the curved display. Yes, swiping to go back is a lot “cooler” and smoother thanks to the curved display but again, that isn’t a justification.

    Beauty and a beast?

Coming to the performance, the smartphone is a beast. In our benchmark tests, the device performed top notch pushing every benchmark to its limit. As an everyday smartphone, the device works quite well too. The call quality is crisp, typing is a breeze, and multitasking is splendid. Its what you get when you are using a device with state of the art hardware. The hardware powering the S6 Edge Plus is the same that is powering the S6 Edge with the difference being the larger screen size on the Edge Plus and 4GB DDR4 RAM (the S6 Edge has 3GB RAM). The EdgePlus also houses a bigger battery.

Samsung galaxy S6 Edge Plus benchmarks | Create infographics

Moving on to the battery life of the smartphone, in our continuous video playback test the device lasted for a whopping 16 hours. We played a 1080p movie on loop keeping the brightness on full and plugging headphones into the device, keeping the volume at max as well. In the GeekBench battery test the device lasted for a little over 9 hours. Coming to everyday use, the device has enough juice to get through a day and if you aren’t a power hungry user, there is enough juice to spill over to the next day as well.

The gaming performance again is great. The smartphone ran every game I played on it. The only downside here is the location of the speaker. I would inevitably end up covering the speaker with my hand while gaming, and hence muffling the audio. The speaker on the other hand is nice – loud and crisp.

My biggest fear was that the device is so slippery, that I feared I’d drop it. And worse, since the metal body is encased in glass, I feared the glass would shatter.

    Say cheese!!

Last but not least, we have the camera. The rear has a 16MP camera that is brilliant. There are some pictures that I clicked in low light and people did not believe that it was clicked in low light. Let the image gallery speak for itself. Put simply, the camera of this smartphone is just awesome.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Camera Samples

    Bottom line

When asked, “which flagship phone I should buy?” I was one that wouldn’t recommend Samsung phones and over the years my opinion has changed, and that should be a testament to the hard work Samsung has put into making its devices great. It isn’t perfect, the curves are useless, the display is awesome, the camera is to die for and the body is fragile and a fingerprint magnet. Nonetheless, if you want a smartphone that is a beauty and a beast, then this is the one for you. It’s the Android phone that cannot only perform but will definitely turn heads wherever you use it. Trust me. I travelled in the Metro in New Delhi with this phone just to see people’s reactions.

A U.S. House investigative report into two Boeing 737 Max crashes that killed 346 people blamed the airline and the FAA for “repeated and serious failures."

The fatal crashes in Indonesia in October 2018 and Ethiopia in March 2019 were “a horrific culmination of a series of faulty technical assumptions by Boeing’s engineers, a lack of transparency on the part of Boeing’s management, and grossly insufficient oversight by the FAA," said the report released Wednesday by the Democratic-controlled House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

The committee chairman, Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., said in a statement that the report, written by Democratic staff, shows "how Boeing — under pressure to compete with Airbus and deliver profits for Wall Street — escaped scrutiny from the FAA, withheld critical information from pilots, and ultimately put planes into service that killed 346 innocent people.”

He added, "What’s particularly infuriating is how Boeing and FAA both gambled with public safety in the critical time period between the two crashes."

A Lion Air crash in October 2018 in Indonesia that killed 189 people was followed five months later by an Ethiopian Airlines flight's going down shortly after takeoff, causing the death of all 157 people aboard.

Boeing said in a statement after the report's release that it is “dedicated to doing the work” necessary.

“We have learned many hard lessons as a company from the accidents of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, and from the mistakes we have made,” the company said. “As this report recognizes, we have made fundamental changes to our company as a result, and continue to look for ways to improve.”

The FAA said in a statement that it “looks forward to working with the Committee to implement improvements identified in its report.”

“We are already undertaking important initiatives based on what we have learned from our own internal reviews as well as independent reviews of the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines accidents,” the agency said.

DeFazio said the House committee chose to release the report following its 18-month investigation to “spotlight not only on the broken safety culture at Boeing but also the gaps in the regulatory system at the FAA that allowed this fatally-flawed plane into service.”

The committee's statement said its 239-page report, with more than 70 investigative findings, reveals “repeated and serious failures” by both Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The report claims that Boeing made “extensive efforts to cut costs” due to financial pressure and refused to slow its 737 MAX production line, jeopardizing safety.

It also alleges that Boeing withheld “crucial information” from the FAA, and that the federal agency's regulation of the airline was hurt by its current oversight structure with respect to Boeing, which "creates inherent conflicts of interest.”

EU Chief Executive Says Chances For Brexit Deal Fading Every Day

Every passing day reduces chances for sealing a new trade deal with Britain, the European Union's chief executive said on Wednesday, warning London that there was "very little time" left to put an agreement in place by the end of the year.

    • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 2:15 PM IST

BRUSSELS: Every passing day reduces chances for sealing a new trade deal with Britain, the European Union’s chief executive said on Wednesday, warning London that there was “very little time” left to put an agreement in place by the end of the year.

In her major annual policy speech, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen dedicated just a few sentences to Brexit, mostly focusing on the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic as well as digital and climate investments.

“With every day that passes, the chances of a timely agreement do start to fade,” von der Leyen told the European Parliament in a “state of the (European) Union” speech styled on the ones U.S. presidents deliver.

Von der Leyen also stressed both the EU and Britain negotiated and ratified their Brexit divorce deal and warned London the agreement “cannot be unilaterally changed, disregarded or dis-applied”.

“This is a matter of law, trust and good faith… Trust is the foundation of any strong partnership,” she said.

Von der Leyen said the bloc would “never backtrack” on UK’s divorce deal, which took three years to negotiate, as it was protecting the delicate peace on the island of Ireland from the consequences of Brexit.

Brexit talks are now in crisis yet again as Prime Minister Boris Johnson put forward a new Internal Market Bill to the UK parliament that would undercut Britain’s EU divorce treaty.

That increased the risk of the most damaging, no-deal economic split precipitating at the end of the year when Britain’s standstill post-Brexit transition ends.

Reuters reported exclusively on Tuesday, however, that Britain had quietly offered concessions on fisheries in trade talks with the European Union last week, leaving the bloc thinking London might still be open to clinching an agreement. [nL8N2GD1LG]

The Google Pixel 2 is the Android phone we’d recommend to anyone who wants a compact Android phone and can afford its huge price tag. It has an excellent camera, but battery life needs some work and Google should put more into its design.

    Google Pixel 2 detailed review

Having reviewed the Google Pixel 2 XL, there’s really little I can say about the Pixel 2. Yes, the smaller variant of Google’s premiere smartphones is a phone that warrants a review for itself. The most important aspect of these devices, including its AI prowess and camera remain the same as the Pixel 2 XL, but the Pixel 2 has a one or two things that make it different.

It’s worth noting that our Pixel 2 review is intentionally brief. The entire camera section will be missing, since you can read all about it on the Google Pixel 2 XL review here. In this review we cover only the aspects that differ between the two phones.

    Build and Design

Of course, the most obvious amongst those is the fact that this phone is smaller. With a 5 inch display, the Pixel 2 is perhaps the most compact and ergonomic phone today. If you like compact phones, you’ll take to this phone right away. But that said, the Pixel 2 also has huge ugly bezels on either side. No one’s done a 5 inch 18:9 display yet, but I keep wondering whether that would have made this phone better.

While the Pixel 2 is meant to be one of 2017’s best Android phone, it certainly doesn’t qualify for that monicker in terms of design. The aluminium frame remains the same as its counterpart, but the Pixel 2’s smaller footprint also makes for a lighter smartphone. It’ll disappear in your pocket when you’re walking around.

As with the Pixel 2 XL, I wish the power button and volume rocker were more tactile, though they are easier to reach at this size.

To sum up, the Pixel 2 is without a doubt the most powerful compact phone today. But as with all Pixels so far, it brings utilitarian looks, putting functionality over beauty.

    Display

Next, the display itself makes a big difference here. You could complain about its resolution, but the fact remains that 1080p resolution works absolutely fine on a 5 inch panel. To be honest, the battery benefits from the lower resolution far outweigh the benefits of higher pixel density. This is also an AMOLED panel, so you’ll get the warmer tone that many like. Of course, Google chooses AMOLEDs to provide Daydream support, so the company has also toned down the warmer tones to some extent.

That said, I do need to discuss colours on the Pixel 2’s screen a little more. For instance, the phone doesn’t have the Pixel 2 XL’s blue tint from off angles, and there’s been no reported burn-in issues (our review unit hasn’t had any issues either). That said, the Pixel 2’s display is not what you’d call vibrant. It lacks the “pop” that many people like. It also doesn’t have the curved edges of the Pixel 2 XL and 18:9 display, which makes it less immersive.

Simply put, you’re looking at a display that works, but doesn’t jump off the page as an attractive display.

    Performance

In terms of power, the Pixel 2 is fitted with the same hardware as the bigger version. With a smaller screen and lower resolution, that amounts to higher scores on some benchmarks, especially ones counting frame rates. That said, there’s really no real difference in performance here. The Pixel 2 is fast, smooth and it’s a pleasure to use. Want a compact Android phones that’s fast too? This is your best bet.

Note: The high pitched clicking noises from the Pixel 2’s speakers, reported by some users, were not heard on our review unit. NFC was kept on throughout the review period. The issue though has been acknowledged by Google, and the company said turning off NFC is a temporary fix. An update is on the way to fix this issue.

    Battery

A smaller form factor comes with a smaller battery. However, the 2700 mAh battery on the Pixel 2 lasts me just as long as the XL version. Leaving home with 100% battery at 10am, I found myself charging the phone between 4.30 and 5 pm every day. On a daily basis, I could play Sim City BuildIt for about 4.5 hours at a time. So, while you will get by a work day with this device, you’re looking at two charges per day. Like the Pixel 2 XL, that makes for average battery life.

    Bottomline

I wasn’t particularly happy with the Pixel 2 XL, but I do like the Pixel 2. That’s partly because I’m a sucker for compact smartphones though. We must commend Google on keeping the essentials unchanged between the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL (make note, Apple!).

The Pixel 2 is the Android flagship for anyone that likes compact phones. Of course, you also great the excellent camera to go with that. If I had to recommend one of the new Pixels, I’d pick this one without a doubt.

Party leaders said Adesh Gupta's parents had also tested positive for covid and were treated in Delhi.

    New Delhi:

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on Wednesday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Last week, I took a COVID test after having a light fever. Its report was negative. I was tested again as I was feeling unwell. The report has now come as positive," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Adesh Gupta said he was in quarantine during the last week and advised those who had come in contact with him to get themselves tested.

Delhi BJP media cell head Ashok Goel said Adesh Gupta was found positive in his third COVID-19 test. The previous two tests, including an RT-PCR, came out as negative, he said.

"The Delhi BJP president underwent a rapid antigen test last week and later, an RT-PCR test, both of which showed him to be COVID negative.  He had body ache but no fever. He was again tested using the RT-PCR method, the report of which came on Wednesday as COVID-19 positive," he said.

Party leaders said Adesh Gupta's parents, who live in his ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh, had also tested positive for COVID-19 and were treated in Delhi 15-20 days ago.

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP office on Pant Marg was closed for sanitisation on Wednesday, a day after 17 people there tested positive for COVID-19.

These include staff members and their families who live on the party office premises.

On Monday, a peon of the Delhi BJP office tested positive for COVID-19, after which all the staff and their family members, numbering around 40, were tested.

Two BJP MPs from Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi and Parvesh Verma, were found COVID-19 positive ahead of the Parliament session that started earlier this week.

Changes in Banking Regulation Law Aimed at Improving Governance in Cooperative Banks, Says Nirmala Sitharaman

Moving the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said the government was compelled to come out with an ordinance during the lockdown period as the condition of the cooperative banks was "grave".

    • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 7:07 PM IST

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said amendments to the banking regulation law seeking to extend the supervision of RBI to cooperative banks are aimed at improving their governance and protecting depositors' money.

Moving the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said the government was compelled to come out with an ordinance during the lockdown period as the condition of the cooperative banks was "grave".

Gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of cooperative banks increased from 7.27 per cent in March 2019, to over 10 per cent by March 2020, she said, adding as many as 277 urban cooperative banks have reported losses in 2018-19 fiscal.

She further said over 100 urban cooperative banks were unable to meet the minimum regulatory capital requirement and 47 had negative net worth at the end March 2019.

In June, the Union Cabinet had approved an ordinance to bring cooperative banks under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It also extended the provisions applicable on commercial banks to cooperative banks.

Responding to Congress' opposition to the ordinance route taken by the Centre to amend the banking regulation law, Sitharaman said the ordinance was brought in only because the financial health of many cooperative societies which were also performing the role of banks was becoming "very delicate".

"Due to the pandemic, the stress in cooperative banks increased and the gross NPA ratio increased from 7.27 per cent in March 2019 to over 10 per cent in March 2020. Therefore it was felt that to protect depositors' interest we should have the ordinance brought in," she said.

Section 45 of the Banking Regulation Act is being amended to enable making of a scheme of reconstruction or amalgamation of a banking company for protecting the interest of the public, depositors and the banking system and for securing its proper management, even without making an order of moratorium, so as to avoid disruption of the financial system.

Besides, amendments in sections 3 and 56 extend the provisions applicable to scheduled commercial banks to cooperative banks and brings them within the RBI regulation.

The amendments do not apply to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) or co-operative societies whose primary object and principal business is long-term finance for agricultural development, and which do not use the words "bank", "banker" or "banking".

"We are not doing anything to touch state cooperatives, we are not doing anything to primary agricultural credit societies, we are not doing anything to touch cooperative societies whose primary object and business is providing long-term finance for agricultural development," Sitharaman said.

The amendments would be applicable only for those cooperative societies which are engaged in banking, she added.

FIFA reveals how much COVID-19 pandemic cost football this year

    Published

    on

A top FIFA official, Olli Rehn, on Wednesday, said that the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to cost club football 14 billion dollars (about N5.4 trillion) this year worldwide.

Rehn, who currently heads the FIFA committee set up to tackle the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, stated that the cost is around one-third of its value, NAN reports.

He added that FIFA, along with financial consultants, had estimated the club game to be worth between 40 billion dollars and 45 billion dollars worldwide.

Rehn said the figure of 14 billion dollars was based on the current scenario, where football is slowly restarting after a 3-month break earlier this year.

The former EU commissioner, who is now governor of the Bank of Finland, said it would be a “different ball game” if the pandemic didn’t let up.

“Football has been hit very hard by the coronavirus [COVID-19] pandemic,” Rehn said.

“It has created plenty of turmoil at different levels with some professional clubs facing very serious difficulties.

“I am also very concerned about youth academies and lower division clubs.”

Rehn disclosed that football in South America had been especially hard hit, while Africa and Asia were also a concern.

He said: “It’s a real danger that the good work that has been done developing football in Asia and Africa could be ruined. So, we want to soften the blow and maintain the development that has been done.”

FIFA has allocated 1.5 billion dollars to help tackle the effects of the pandemic, and Rehn said 150 of the 211 member-associations had so far applied for funds.

He said that, while football was slowly re-awakening, another downturn couldn’t be ruled out.

Rehn said: “The critical thing will be whether a vaccine will be developed and can be used, and that we have medical and other means to fully contain and tame the pandemic, and that is uncertain.

“We cannot rule out worse developments, and that would be another ball game if the pandemic were to continue in a severe form next year. Now we are working on the basis of the current scenario.”

Bihar Ministers Praise Engineer Nitish Kumar For Reconstructing State

Bihar Ministers Praise "Engineer" Nitish Kumar For Reconstructing State

Nitish Kumar has "reconstructed" Bihar in the last 15 years, the two ministers asserted while claiming that it was in shambles before he assumed power in 2005.

Bihar Ministers Praise 'Engineer' Nitish Kumar For Reconstructing State

The ministers showered praises on Nitish Kumar on Engineers' Day, who holds an engineering degree

    Patna:

Bihar ministers Sanjay Kumar Jha and Ashok Choudhary have effusively praised "engineer" Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for reconstructing the state in the last 15 years, developing it from the abysmal condition he had inherited it from the Rashtriya Janata Dal regime in 2005.

The ruling JD(U), of which Mr Jha is the national general secretary, is building its campaign for the coming assembly elections in Bihar around 15 years of Mr Kumar's rule versus a decade-and-half of the Lalu Yadav-Rabri Devi regime.

Mr Jha and Mr Choudhary had on Tuesday used the occasion of Engineers' Day to shower praises on Nitish Kumar, who holds a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Mr Kumar has "reconstructed" Bihar in the last 15 years, the two ministers asserted while claiming that it was in shambles before he assumed power in 2005.

The average growth rate which was around 3.19 per cent during the RJD rule has now risen to 11.3 per cent, Mr Jha who is a close confidante of Nitish Kumar, said.

While a meagre 22 per cent of the state's population had access to electricity during the RJD regime, all households have power connection now, he said.

RJD had ruled Bihar from 1990 to 2005 first under RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and then under his wife Rabri Devi.

In November 2005, the NDA had dislodged RJD from power and Mr Kumar has helmed the state since then, except for the brief period when he had anointed Jitan Ram Manjhi after JD(U) had received a severe drubbing in the 2014 general election.

Giving more statistics to paint the picture of development in the 15 years under "Nitish raj", Mr Jha, who is the minister for water resources development, told PTI: "There is no need to look for development in Bihar with the help of a lantern (RJD poll symbol) today.... Progress is clearly visible under LED lights in every village."

Mr Choudhary, the minister for building construction said, "The state is proud to have an engineer chief minister who has reconstructed the state in the last 15 years."

Mr Kumar graduated in electrical engineering from Bihar College of Engineering in 1973. The college later became National Institute of Technology, Patna.

After completing his formal studies, Mr Kumar was recruited as an assistant engineer in the Bihar State Electricity Board at Ranchi. However, his passion for politics took him away from it, books on him say.

Mr Jha claimed that in the past 15 years under Nitish Kumar the size of Bihar's budget has increased eight times compared to that during the RJD regime.

The budget size in 2005-06 was Rs 23,885 crore which has gone up to Rs 2,11,761 crore in the financial year 2020-21, he said.

"During the RJD period the industrial growth rate was zero in Bihar which is 17 per cent now," Mr Jha said.

In the water resources development, no new assistant engineer (mechanical) was appointed since 1979. Now after 41 years the government has initiated the process for recruitment of 615 of them, he said.

Despite problems due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, a total of 388 schemes to plug leakage or repair of embankments were completed before the floods this monsoon, the minister said adding that for the first time iron sheets piling and bag pitching were used for strengthening embankments.

Stating that no new engineering college had opened in Bihar between 1960 and 2005, Mr Jha said now due to Mr Kumar's efforts there is one in every district, besides a polytechnic college and a women industrial training institute. There are ITI in every sub-division of the state as well.

Drawing more comparisons between the RJD regime and that of Nitish Kumar, he said Bihar had only 34 per cent metallic roads during the Lalu-Rabri rule which is 97 per cent now.

Referring to the development of infrastructure in Bihar, Mr Jha claimed that only four bridges were built over the Ganga in the state between 1962 and 2005. But since Mr Kumar came to power in 2005 a total of 11 new bridges over the river have been approved in different places, out of which two have been completed.

On the Kosi River, there were only three bridges during the RJD regime. In 2005, six bridges on it were sanctioned and three of them are already functional.

Speaking of the power scenario in Bihar, Mr Jha said, "Earlier people in the state used to wait for the supply of power in their homes, particularly in the rural areas and were forced to use lantern. But now villages have electricity supply for 22 to 24 hours a day."

"Earlier the word ''Bihari'' triggered fun and indignation. In the last 15 years, Bihar has earned a respectful identity," the JD(U) leader added.

Fall Guys costs Rs. 529 on Steam and Rs. 1,664 on the PS4 in India

    Highlights
    • Fall Guys gets mid-season update
    • The update is live on the PlayStation 4 and Steam
    • Fall Guys introduces Big Yeetus hammer obstacle with this update

Fall Guys has received a mid-season update that brings a few changes to the game, ahead of its major Season 2 update coming in October. Players will get to see various round variations, stability and performance improvements, and a new obstacle called the ‘Big Yeetus'. Additionally, the developers have also announced that they have implemented Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat system to keep hackers out of the game. The Fall Guys mid-season update is live on the PlayStation 4 and on Steam for PC players.

Fall Guys was released early last month and has gathered a lot of attention for its new spin on the battle royale genre. With fans eagerly waiting for the Season 2 update, developers Mediatonic have released a mid-season update with a few changes and the addition of a new obstacle that they are calling ‘Big Yeetus.' In the post on the official Fall Guys website, the developers have stated that dozens of obstacles, random rotations, and more tumbling fruit has been added to Blunderdome. Players will seemingly have no idea when these changes will occur, the developers add.

Big Yeetus is a large hammer obstacle that, as per the video shared by the developers, can either launch players across the playground directly to the finish, or in a different direction ruining their run.

The team has also implemented some matchmaking changes with enhanced server stability, VFX improvements, and more for players to have a smoother experience.

Mediatonic has implemented Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat system as well. This will allow the team to detect and take necessary action against hackers who use exploits to gain an unfair advantage in the game. Earlier, to tackle hacking and cheating, Fall Guys implemented a sort of “Cheater Island” system that put all the confirmed cheaters into one game. However, it was not a full proof plan and the developers decided to cancel it.

Fall Guys Season 2 update will be released next month, but the developers have not shared an exact release date yet. They did, however, share a sneak peek for the upcoming season, revealing that it will bring new rounds inspired by quests from the middle-ages, new Medieval hero costumes, and more. A report report by GamesRadar states that the Fall Guys Season 2 will be released on October 6. The official synopsis of Season 2 on Steam reads, “Fall Guys Season 2 will bring the dragon fire with feudal fortresses, knockout knights and pugilistic paladins among new additions coming this October. A full season of new costumes, emotes and more will reward players as they lay siege to the Middle Ages.”

Delhi News: Good news for animal lovers! The national capital is likely to get its first wild animal rescue centre by the end of the year, forest department officials said.

Delhi likely to get an animal rescue centre soon, say officials (Representational Image)

    New Delhi:

Delhi is likely to get its first wild animal rescue centre by the end of the year, forest department officials said on Wednesday. The facility will come up on a 1.24-acre plot in Rajokri where a monkey rescue centre is lying abandoned. Three five-member rapid response teams will be constituted to rescue stranded animals and rehabilitate them at the Rajokri facility, according to an official.

The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority has sanctioned funds for the wild animal rescue centre. The teams will be constituted in a month, while the facility will be ready by year-end, the official said.

The animal rescue centre will come up in place of a proposed facility for birds. "There was a proposal for a wild bird rescue centre pending before the Supreme Court-constituted Central Empowered Committee. The panel said there was no need for it considering only kites, pigeons and other such birds will be treated there," an official told news agency PTI.

The panel was not quite convinced about setting aside government resources for birds, which are not of great conservation value and asked the forest department to provide data justifying the requirement of such a centre.

"When we went through data of animals rescued, we came to know that birds alone did not justify a separate facility. But if we talk of wild animals rescued, such as nilgai, mongoose, monkeys and jackals, and reptiles, there is more than adequate justification," the official said.

Approval of the Ridge Management Board was needed to "broaden" the proposal of a wild bird rescue centre to an animal rescue centre. The proposal was to be discussed at a meeting of the Ridge Management Board on January 18, which could not be convened in view of the Assembly polls in February.

Thereafter, it was delayed due to the COVID-19-triggered lockdown. "The proposal will now be discussed in a board meeting scheduled on Friday. Once we have the approval, we will approach the Supreme Court-appointed committee with adequate justification," the official said. Approval of the Supreme Court through the panel is required to use Ridge land for any other purpose.

Rashami Desai Claims She Spoke to Disha Salian on June 7, Says 'We Were Planning a Trip in October'

    Rashami Desai and Disha Salian

Actress Rashami Desai has claimed that she had spoken to Disha Salian on the phone on June 7 about a possible trip to Himachal Pradesh in October. Disha allegedly died by suicide on June 8.

    • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 4:25 PM IST

Actress Rashami Desai has claimed that she and late celebrity manager Disha Salian were planning a vacation together with friends a day before the latter allegedly died by suicide. Disha allegedly fell to her death from the 14th floor of a building in Malad West on June 8.

In an interview with the Republic TV, Rashami claimed that she had spoken to Disha on the phone on June 7 about a possible trip to Himachal Pradesh in October. "On June 7, when I spoke to her, we were planning a trip to Shimla in October. One of my very close friend's birthday party was there so we were planning the Shimla trip, so then we said we should meet and talk."

"I spoke to her a day prior to the incident. That had nothing to do with the (alleged) party (on June 8), we spoke very normally. We did not speak at length at that time actually. We said that we could not talk everything on the phone, so we eventually made plans to meet later on but the next day I got the sad news," Rashami added.

Rashami denied knowing about any party that Disha allegedly attended on June 8. "I know Disha for a very long time but I was not aware of the party in Juhu," she said.

Rashami further claimed that although Disha was a very close friend, she was not in touch with her for a very long time as she was inside the Bigg Boss house for close to six months. "She was a very dear friend and I would not like to comment on anything. I was not aware of whatever she was going through because I was part of a reality show, right after that the pandemic happened so I was not in touch for 6-7 months."

"Disha was someone who was a very big name in the industry, she has managed many big names. For me, she was a doll, beautiful and a pure soul and I don't think the family is also comfortable talking about it," Rashami added.

Bihar’s much talked-about Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey is now going to feature as “Robinhood of Bihar” in a video song rendered by Deepak Thakur of ‘Bigg Boss’ fame.

Thakur, who hails from Muzaffarpur district, shot to fame when he made it to the finals of Bigg Boss Season 12, hosted by actor Salman Khan. He is now releasing a new music video titled "Robinhood Bihar Ke" featuring Pandey, the police chief of the state.  The song has been composed and sung by Thakur. The songs teaser on YouTube features Gupteshwar Pandey along with Thakur.

Thakur has also shared a poster of the song on his Twitter handle. In the poster, Gupteshwar Pandey is seen sitting on a couch, while Deepak is standing right behind him.

Thakur tells Outlook that the song will be released till September 20, and can be viewed on his YouTube channel “DT Production” which has more than two lakh subscribers.

Gupteshwar Pandey, a 1987 batch IPS officer, is a popular face on social media. He has 7.7 lakh followers on Facebook and has about 2.5 lakh followers on Twitter which he joined only in April 2020.

DGP Pandey is regularly updates about the law and order of the state and high-profile matters through video on social media. More recently, he has constantly been in headlines since the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The DGP is also known for conducting undercover investigations.

Pandey, who was appointed DGP before the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, had recently said that a Bihar Police team had investigated the Sushant Singh Rajput case undercover.

Prior to his appointment as Bihar DGP, he was the Deputy Inspector General of Munger and Muzaffarpur Zone. In the past, he has also served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in several Naxalite affected districts. He is also the brand-ambassador of JDU leader Nitish Kumar’s government's “liquor ban campaign”.

“I have known Gupteshwar Pandey since 18 years. He is the only one who has helped me complete my schooling,” says Thakur. “I know him personally. We have an old relationship. It is a matter of pride to be with such a person.”

According to Thakur, Pandey helps people in need. “He has also played an important role in the Sushant Singh death case. The central agencies are now investigating it only due to Bihar police’s initiative to ensure justice to the late actor and his family,” he said.

“Even after holding the top position, he is a humble man. Through this song, I am only highlighting whatever he has done. He is truly the Robinhood of Bihar. Sometimes people have seen him in disguise as a beggar, or a rickshaw-puller while investing cases."

DGP Gupteshwar Pandey hails from Buxar district of Bihar and had once tried his luck in politics as well. It is said that in 2009, he wanted to contest for Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket from Buxar for which he had resigned from the post of IPS officer. However, BJP decided to field its veteran leader Lamuni Choubey from Buxar.

His term as DGP is going to end in February 2021. There are already speculations that he may turn to politics after his retirement. Thakur said that if he joins politics and serves the state, it will be good for the state. “Politics needs a person like him. We have very few leaders from the state, who are well educated,” he adds.

    Verdict

It’s rare to come across a pair of earphones that ticks an inordinate number of boxes of what you’d consider the perfect pair of headphones to be. The Audeze LCD-i3 gives users lifelike planar sound that has a beautiful airy quality, which coupled with the massive soundstage sounds, for the lack of a better word, epic. Add to this the fact that you can connect these headphones to iPhones via a lightning cable, 3.5mm jacks via a 3.5mm wired cable and wirelessly through Bluetooth, you’ve got an extremely versatile pair of earphones. The price is exorbitant, yes, but given the customisation options and stellar sound quality, you’re likely to feel that your money is spent well.

    Audeze LCD-i3 detailed review

Audeze headphones have always been a favourite here at the Digit test lab and the new LCD-i3 cements our liking for this audiophile-grade brand even more. The Audeze LCD-i3 is a pair of open-back, planar-magnetic IEMs that borrow heavily in terms of design from the flagship Audeze LCD-i4 earphones, which are significantly costlier than the LCD-i3. They also mimic the iSINE range of Audeze products when it comes to low-impedance. As a company, Audeze nails the planar magnetic technology used in IEMs since they make the headphones open-back. Closed-shell IEMs with planar magnetic tech often tend to sound shrill between 3-5khz and Audeze avoids this due to their decision to make the LCDi-series open-back. The Audeze LCD-i3 is priced at Rs 79,990 and certainly mesmerised us with its sound which is why it ended up being the winner in the Best Performing Wired IEM segment in our annual Digit Zero1 awards. Let’s delve into these earphones further.

    In the box

    • 3.5mm audio cable
    • Lightning iOS cipher cable (for iPhones)
    • Bluetooth module cable
    • Micro-USB charging cable for Bluetooth module
    • Five sizes of eartips
    • Angled ear hooks
    • Cleaning tool
    • Cable clip
    • Carrying case
    • User guide and driver downloads card
    • Certificate of Authenticity card
    • Audeze LCD-i3 earphones

    Build and design

The Audeze LCD-i3 earphones, similar to the iSINE LX and iSINE20, come packaged in a hard plastic box that looks extremely premium due to its textured design. When unfolded, the earphones sit neatly in a dedicated cavity at the top of the box, while the bottom holds a carrying case with the plethora of goodies we mentioned above.

The wide array of angled ear hooks and eartips of different sizes ensure that you get a good fit. However, despite donning the right size of both, the hooks and eartips, we found the fit to be rather flimsy owing to the weight of these earphones. They felt moderately secure when we were sitting still in one place, but walking about would cause them to loosen and sometimes pop out. So, naturally, these earphones aren’t ideal to use during commuting or walking. Don’t even think about bringing these with you when jogging, or worse, gymming.

The multiple cables allow users to connect them to a wide number of devices easily since they can be used passively via the standard 3.5mm audio cable or the Lightning cable for iPhones, or you could simply connect the Bluetooth module and connect wirelessly. It’s great to have an array of choices, and the price feels more justified due to the variety of connectivity options. Nevertheless, we would have loved it even more if these cables were tangle-free, which is not an unreasonable ask at this price point. The cables come with a standard 2-pin connector at the other end to connect to the IEMs.

The Audeze LCD-i3, as mentioned above, as open-back earphones which basically means that sound does leak both in and out. While sound leaking outside the earphones is still at a manageable level when compared to several open-back headphones, the passive isolation is extremely poor and you will need to be in a relatively quiet area to listen to these efficiently. Office environments, commute in public trains and buses and in general, an outdoor environment are not ideal. The i3 sports a 30mm transducer which utilises a Neodymium N50 magnet. This magnet is housed inside a plastic shell with a semi-glossy finish. A silver aluminium mesh grill sits directly underneath this and the overall look is premium. The design is almost identical to the LCD-i4, while it weighs the same as the iSine 10. The plastic chassis is a good choice since a metal one would have deteriorated the comfort and fit even more.

The nozzle which fits inside the ear is thicker, longer and bigger than traditional IEMs and while it feels rather lightweight in-hand, the weight in-ear is on the higher side when compared to other IEMs. For us, the comfort and fit were rather awkward, as aforementioned, but you may get a different result by using the eartips and hooks. Something we missed sorely was foam tips which we think should have been included at this exorbitant price point. The LCD-i3 juts out of the ear considerably and looks rather odd, but still premium nonetheless.

    Features

The lightning cable for iPhones included with the Audeze LCD-i3 has Audeze’s cypher tech which is basically its proprietary DSP. Its DAC converts at 24 bit and it is also compatible with the Audeze DSP app which lets users customise the EQ intricately. You can utilise Audeze’s app to access various premade DSP modes as well. The Lightning cable also has a microphone and in-line controller. The in-line controller allows users to pause/play tracks and control the volume as well.

The Bluetooth module, sporting Bluetooth 5.0 standard, similarly comes with cypher tech and an in-line controller as well. This module supports hi-res audio codecs such as AptX and AptX HD and has a respectable 8-hour long battery life. We managed to squeeze out around 7 hours and 15 minutes at about 60 per cent volume, which isn’t too far off from the company claim.

The analogue 3.5mm connector cable, however, does not include the DSP, so to get the most out of this device and listen to it the way Audeze intends you to, you will have to use an Apple device or the Bluetooth module. We evaluated the i3 with both the 3.5mm cable and the Bluetooth module in this review.

    Performance

The Audeze LCD-i3 retrieves the detail in audio exceptionally well. The stock experience, without any of the intriguing levels of tweaking the cypher tech allows you, is flat and will please the most stringent audiophiles. Competitors such as the Campfire Andromeda and the RHA CL2 Planar have a tough time stacking up to the i3 when it comes to speed and drive, especially in the bass. The bass is tight, controlled and sufficiently punchy. Kick drums and bass guitars sound fantastic and the sound is never too jarring to the mids. The lows are extended but not over-extended and a boost in the region around 40kHz provides them with extra liveliness. The separation from the low mids is excellent.

The lower-mids are sometimes a bit too weighty for our liking and female vocals suffer slightly due to this. However, the rest of the frequency range in the mids sounds luscious and forward. They also offer a wealth of detail range. However, in certain Jazz tracks, the mids are a bit weak-sounding. The mids are by-far the weakest element of the Audeze LCD-i3 but they still manage to beat most IEMs out there, which is saying something. It is just not quite as commanding as the excellent reproduction of the lows and highs.

Speaking of the highs, the Audeze LCD-i3 excels here. They extend quite a bit but do not, at any point, sound sibilant or tinny and mostly sound luscious and full. The extended highs make the tracks significantly more dynamic, adding oomph to pop or rock tracks such as Something From Nothing by The Foo Fighters. When listening to Centuries by Fall Out Boy where most IEMs crack at high frequencies or at least sound unappealing, the Audeze LCD-i3 carries the notes with extreme precision without sounding harsh or peaky.

The soundstage, as expected from open-back earphones, is extremely spacious. The width is expansive and so is the height. Imaging is also excellent and on certain tracks such as AKFG’s Blue Train, you will feel a sense of closeness to the instruments which is not found on closed-back earphones. Being open-back has shattered the limitations IEMs usually stumble upon when it comes to the soundstage. The result is a remarkable airy quality which sounds ultra-realistic.

    Bottomline

If budget is not an issue for you, the Audeze LCD-i3 are one of the best pair of IEMs you can find on the market today. If you’re an audiophile and mostly listen to music within the confines of your home or studio, these IEMs deliver life-like, balanced sound quality that brings out intricate details and nuances in tracks, unlike traditional BA IEMs. The planar magnetic tech coupled with the open-back design delivers airy, realistic sound which works brilliantly with almost all genres of music. Priced at Rs 79,900, these IEMs are certainly on the expensive side, but they are completely worth every rupee and then some.

Ajit Doval, team walked out of Shanghai Cooperation Organization over doctored map by Pak (File)

    New Delhi:

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the Indian team walked out a meet of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization hosted by Russia after Pakistan used a doctored map as a background for its representative. The map showed Indian territories as part of Pakistan. The Indian side's move was a protest against Pakistan's blatant violation of norms, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

Asked about the issue, ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in a statement: "The Pakistani NSA deliberately projected a fictitious map that Pakistan has recently been propagating. This was in blatant disregard to the advisory by the host (Russia) against it and in violation of the norms of the meeting."

After consultation with the host, the Indian side left the meeting in protest at that juncture, the statement added.

"As was to be expected, Pakistan then went on to present a misleading view of this meeting," the statement further read.

The map, issued by Prime Minister Imran Khan on August 4, claims territories of India - Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Sir Creek in Gujarat -- as parts of Pakistan. India had rubbished it as an "exercise in political absurdity" with no legal validity.

Government sources said Islamabad's use of the fictitious map, depicting sovereign Indian territories as part of Pakistan, is a blatant violation of the SCO Charter. It is also against all its established norms of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of SCO Member States.

India, sources said, has issued strong objection to the use of this illegal map by Pakistan.

The Russian side, as the Chair, had tried very hard to persuade Pakistan not to do so. Russia does not support what Pakistan has done and hopes that Pakistan's provocative act will not affect India's participation in SCO, sources said.

Over the last year, Pakistan has been attempting to highlight Kashmir at most international forums. But showing such a map in violation of protocol became possible as the meeting was virtual owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Appearances Matter in Jaguar’s ’21 F-Pace | WardsAuto

In the U.S., 2021 Jaguar F-Pace will come in four trim configurations with three powertrain options.

    Appearances Matter in Jaguar’s ’21 F-Pace

Jaguar hopes you like what the designers have done here, as the F-Pace's new design is setting up a blueprint for future models.

When Jaguar started updating the new F-Pace, it didn't want to make the average new model year changes. Instead, with a completely new interior and a few exterior upgrades, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace is far more than a midcycle refresh, says Jaguar design director Julian Thomson.

"It's been great for our team to have the opportunity to revisit these cars and go back and refine them and make them better," he says, speaking about both the new F-Pace and the upcoming 2021 XF, which will be unveiled later this month. “We’ve gone over the car with a fine-tooth comb and made every single thing better.”

Thomson says the ’21 F-Pace has a focus on technology, but is also an authentic, luxury Jaguar vehicle. It also will be Jaguar’s first plug-in hybrid, but only in Europe.

In the U.S., the ’21 Jaguar F-Pace will come in four trim configurations with three powertrain options, all using an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 250 and S 250 versions each use a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline 4-cyl. that produces 246 hp.

    The S 340 and R-Dynamic S 400 are mild hybrids and both use a 3.0L gasoline 6-cyl. that produces 335 hp in the S 340 and 395 hp in the R-Dynamic S 400.

    Jaguar2021 Jaguar F-PACE interior.jpg

    2021 Jaguar F-Pace interior.

The mild hybrids store regenerative braking energy in a 48V lithium-ion battery pack and can use it for acceleration, with the R-Dynamic S 400 hitting 60 mph (97 km/h) from zero in exactly 5 seconds, Jaguar says.

It’s the updated looks, though, where Jaguar designers spent lots of time making sure the ’21 F-Pace got what it deserved, with particular focus on the lighting.

Up front, the “Double J Blade” daytime running lights and slim, LED quad headlights accentuate an enlarged grille with a can't-miss-it logo in red. The rear lights (pictured below) use Jaguar's double chicane graphic previously seen on the all-electric I-Pace.

Aside from the lights, the new F-Pace's hood and sides have been updated, and the R-Dynamic version stands even further apart with enhanced performance looks.

Inside, Jaguar has put a premium on keeping things calm and clean. Ambient lighting is almost a given in upscale cars these days, and the F-Pace includes both configurable subdued lights as well as warm white courtesy lighting in "key areas."

Drivers will gain information from the 12.3-in. (31-cm) interactive driver display behind the steering wheel (pictured below).

Jaguar also has two ways to keep the outside, well, outside thanks to active road noise cancellation and an optional PM 2.5 filter to keep what the EPA calls "fine inhalable particles" (particulate matter that's less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter) out of your lungs.

Jaguar hopes you like what the designers have done here, as the F-Pace's new design is setting up a blueprint for future models.

Jaguar also provides a Pivi Pro infotainment system and 14-speaker Meridian sound system to keep you entertained. Like other automakers – see the Polestar 2, with its Android Automotive OS – Jaguar is trying to not just integrate smartphones with the car (and the F-Pace can connect to two phones at once), but also to make the car’s built-in system feel more like your phone.

Jaguar says Pivi Pro’s flat menu structure is intuitive, putting favorite features either on the 11.4-in. (29-cm) curved-glass home screen or just one click away, with “most other features” accessible by two clicks.

Jaguar’s Electronic Vehicle Architecture, now in its second generation, allows for over-the-air updates and even powers the dual-sim Pivi Pro with a dedicated energy source so that it turns on when you open the door and before you sit down in the driver's seat.

The ’21 F-Pace has plenty of driver-assistance and safety technologies, with blindspot and rear traffic monitors as standard features. An optional Clear Exit Monitor watches for cars or cyclists approaching from the rear and will warn occupants when they start to open the door.

An updated smart wearable device called the Activity Key can be used to access the new F-Pace even without the key fob.

Details on price and on-sale date will be announced later.

The upcoming smartwatches are expected to have SpO2 and stress detection features. Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 are expected to be similar to their predecessors but have more advanced features.

Huami founder Wang Huang commented on the challenges faced while designing Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2. He said that while it was difficult to create a classic, it was even harder to surpass one. Huang said that the company focused on things such as the stylish appearance of the watch, the long battery life, and the health features.

As per a teaser poster shared by Huami on Weibo, The Amazfit GTR 2 has a round face and a narrower dial bezel than its predecessor. Amazfit GTR 2 that sports a classic look is expected to exceed its predecessor on the battery front. The Amazfit GTR comes with a 410mAh battery that can last up to 74 days in basic watch mood.

The Huami Amazfit GTS 2, meanwhile, has a square-shaped design, and looks slimmer than its predecessor. The Amazfit GTS has a battery life of 14 days and a 1.65-inch (348x442 pixels) AMOLED display with a curved screen.

Wang Huang said that the company faced challenges while designing the second generation smartwatches. It wanted to make the appearance of the Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 more stunning, improve on the health functions and subtract the user's learning costs while adding on additional functions.

Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 3 will be launched on September 22 at 2pm CST Asia (11:30 am IST).
