England vs Australia, 3rd ODI Live Score, Old Trafford, Manchester, Latest Updates: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the final ODI of the series between England and Australia. The series is level at 1-1 and both teams will plan to end the English summer on a high.
Second ODI Report: Australia collapsed from a position of victory in a moderate chase as England leveled the series with a 24-run victory in Manchester in the second One-Day International.
Australia were chasing 232 and were cruising at 144 for 2 before Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes, and then Sam Curran, created mayhem in the middle overs. From there, Australia slipped to 147 for 6 and eventually 207 all out. Archer, Woakes and Sam Curran got three wickets each.
Australia's chase started on the wrong note courtesy a terrific spell by Archer. The pacer got David Warner yet again, the opener nicking to the keeper for just 6 in the fourth over.
Soon, Marcus Stoinis was undone by a snorter of a short ball from Archer in the eighth over, the well directed bouncer lobbing straight off the bat to the keeper. Australia were 37 for 2 and England were right in the game.
However, Aaron Finch and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship with a sturdy partnership. Finch got past his fifty, and the partnership reached 107 but the game change rapidly in a space of four overs.
Labuschagne fell to Chris Woakes, lbw two runs short of his half-century with Australia 144 for 3. In the very next over, Archer bowled Mitchell Marsh, after which Woakes got the big wicket of Finch, bowled for 73, to leave Australia 145 for 5. That became 147 for 6 when Glenn Maxwell missed a straight one from Woakes.
Pat Cummins attacked with a six off Adil Rashid but Sam Curran struck twice in two balls to dent Australia further, dismissing Cummins and Starc to leave Australia 166 for 8.
Australia need 60 off 48, and then 37 from 18, with Alex Carey fighting at one end, but the task was too stiff without support from the other end.
Earlier, Adam Zampa proved a thorn in England's side again as Australia restricted the world champions to 231-9.
The leg-spinner took 3-36 from a maximum 10 overs to follow his 4-55 during Australia's 19-run win in Friday's first of a three-match series.
England captain Eoin Morgan top-scored with 42 but could not prevent his side slumping to 149-8 in the 41st over.
But a ninth-wicket partnership of 76 between the recalled Tom Curran (37) and Adil Rashid (35 not out) kept England in the game.
Rashid pulled fast bowler Pat Cummins for six before last man Jofra Archer ended the innings with a four off Mitchell Marsh.
Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc enjoyed an early strike when he had Jonny Bairstow caught behind for a duck.
Jason Roy hit three fours in an over off fast bowler Josh Hazlewood -- an off-drive, a whip shot through square leg and a square-cut.
But his promising 21 ended when he was run out by Marcus Stoinis' direct hit from cover as Test captain Joe Root, struggling for runs, set off for a risky single.
A change of bat saw Root hit two fours off Cummins and his pulled six off Stoinis brought up a fifty partnership with Morgan.
Zampa, however, struck third ball when Root edged a well-flighted delivery to Australia captain Aaron Finch at slip to end an innings of 39 off 73 balls.
Left-hander Morgan hit fours off successive Zampa deliveries and Finch, with Jos Buttler in, recalled Cummins.
His move was vindicated when Cummins had Buttler lbw for just three.
Zampa had Morgan lbw on review to end a relatively fluent 52-ball innings and then had Sam Billings, fresh from his maiden ODI hundred on Friday, chopping on for just eight.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said he has tested positive for the coronavirus infection and has isolated himself. He also appealed to those who have come in contact with him to get tested.
"Yesterday, I was feeling weak and consulted my doctor. During the course of my check-up, I have been tested COVID-19 positive. I am at present doing well with the blessings and good wishes of all. I have isolated myself," said the Union Minister of of Road Transport and Highways in a tweet, urging those who have come in contact with him to undergo tests.

Gadkari is the latest Union minister to have tested positive for the infection. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also contracted the virus, recovered recently and was discharged from AIIMS Delhi.
The news about Gadkari's infection came on the day when Lok Sabha MP from Tirupati, Balli Durga Prasad, died of Covid-19. The YSRCP leader, who was 64 years old, was undergoing treatment for coronavairus at a private hospital in Chennai.
Before the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on September 14, 17 MPs tested positive for coronavirus in mandatory tests. As many as 12 MPs from the BJP, the most from any party in Lok Sabha, were found infected during the test followed by the YSR Congress's two MPs and one each of the DMK, the Shiv Sena and the RLP.
The Lok Sabha members were tested at the Parliament House on September 13 and 14 -- during a mandatory test for those attending this year's Monsoon Session which will end on October 1.

OnePlus 8 nails the essentials which makes it a pretty well-balanced offering from the company. Notwithstanding the unsettled camera performance, it remains a powerful performer with the smoothest Android experience currently available in the market.
OnePlus 8 is a flagship smartphone with the right amount of brains and brawn, part of the OnePlus 8 series and the younger sibling of the OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus’ flagship smartphones have really come of age with these two new products that aim to give you the slickest Android experience while building upon fundamentals established by the previous “flagship killers”. Words like speed, fluidity and robust performance have become synonymous with OnePlus smartphones from a while now, but with the OnePlus 8, we get to see a smartphone that stands tall when it comes to the essentials and redefines what it means to be a flagship phone in this day and age.
OnePlus 8 is a powerful performer as you’d come to expect with any OnePlus phone. At the heart, lies the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with inbuilt 5G modem powered by OxygenOS 10 that provides arguably the slickest Android experience on a phone yet. It has an octa-core CPU that is clocked at upto 2.84 GHz and Adreno 650 graphics processor, paired with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
It’s fast and responsive and the 90Hz refresh rate ensures that every element in the UI, be it animations or transitions, plays out smoothly.
When it comes to benchmarks, the OnePlus 8 scored 576820 points on AnTuTu 8.0 tests which is higher than OnePlus 8 Pro, Mi 10 and Realme X50 Pro and is only bested by the iQOO 3 5G.
In GeekBench 5 CPU tests, the OnePlus 8 got a single-core score of 914 points and 3358 points in multi-core tests. Here again, the phone leads the scoreboard along with iQOO 3.
We found similar results when we ran the 3D Mark Slingshot Extreme test on the phone which awarded it 7243 points in OpenGL tests and 6704 points in Vulkan tests.
As it stands, the OnePlus 8 is a supremely powerful phone when it comes to sheer raw power as it is around 22-24 per cent more powerful than the OnePlus 7T. This also means that you can expect a steadfast performance from OnePlus 8 in the long run and it wouldn’t disappoint.
Gaming Performance
With the OnePlus 8 running on the latest Snapdragon chip under the hood, there’s no question of the chip to falter when running existing gaming titles. It does it all without breaking a sweat and it is a delight to play games on the OnePlus 8.
For our brief test, we played a couple of rounds of PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, Forza Street and LifeAfter to get a sense of how the OnePlus 8, with all its might, performs when running some graphic-intensive titles. We recorded the performance metrics using GameBench and all the games ran without any apparent hiccups.
The phone was able to run COD Mobile and PUBG Mobile at 60FPS with 95% stability with the prime core rarely being used during the gaming session. It’s just how OnePlus has optimized its software with the hardware as the CPU never reaches its full potential because there’s just no use for it to power through apps and games because the other seven cores are able to deliver a sustained performance which goes a long way in ensuring the longevity of the phone.
You can read more about our comprehensive gaming test of the OnePlus 8 Pro where we also compare it against the iQOO 3 and Realme X50 Pro.
Software Performance
OnePlus 8 runs on OxygenOS 10 which is arguably the cleanest Android UI out there in the market. There are no pre-loaded bloatware apps, other than a generous set of Google apps and the whole user interface looks a lot refined right out-of-the-box. The smooth experience that you get is also a result of system-level optimisations and the 90Hz refresh rate that irons out every animation, transition, scrolling and makes it a fluid phone to use.
The gesture navigation offered by Android 10 ties-in well with OxygenOS letting you interact with the screen with ease. The UI also offers tons of customisations options along with a dedicated work mode profile, dark mode, zen mode and more. It’s also efficient in the way it allows users to multitask easily and features like RAM Boost keeps apps in the background ready for you to resume using it. With the OnePlus 8, the OxygenOS feels like a very refined, no-frills version of Android that every user can naturally be familiar with it. This is something that most Android smartphone UI’s lack and don’t focus on, which results in poor user experience, especially when you have random advertisements thrown in between.
OnePlus 8 remains an underachiever primarily in the camera department, but that’s not to say it comes with bad cameras. It’s just not as versatile as the OnePlus 8 Pro and even the OnePlus 7T which came before it.
It features a 48MP camera that uses the ½-inch Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and support for OIS and EIS. This is followed by a 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 116-degree field of view. It trades the telephoto lens from 7T for a 2MP macro camera instead and this is where things get a little confusing. Being a sub-Rs 50,000 smartphone, one would automatically expect flagship-level camera setup but that just isn’t the case here as two of the three cameras are similar to the ones found on older generation OnePlus phones.
The primary camera on the OnePlus 8 is still very good at creating pictures with vivid colours, balanced exposure, excellent details and good dynamic range.
The camera is quick to autofocus and snap a picture in daylight but takes some time processing the shot at night or in low-light environments. While the camera setup is devoid of a telephoto lens, the camera app allows you to digitally zoom into the frame upto 2X by default and it’s pretty decent as well.
There’s a dedicated 48MP mode that lets you create pictures in an 8000 x 6000-pixel resolution but the images often look dull with low saturation across the board. Additionally, it does capture more details than what you’d get with a 12MP-binned picture but the pictures aren’t as sharp as you’d expect.
The 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera is capable of filling more elements into the frame and the pictures from this camera came out to be well-detailed and with similar characteristics as the primary sensor. Though we noticed that the pictures often had a higher saturation level than normal with less sharpness around the corners. We’d have liked to see a high-res ultra-wide-angle sensor on the OnePlus 8 as well, but it seems the company saved all the upgrades for the Pro model.
Nevertheless, the ultra-wide-angle camera isn’t half as bad as the macro sensor on the phone. While a macro camera requires you to go up close to the subject to capture intricate details, the 2MP sensor on the OnePlus 8 isn’t capable of producing a well-detailed macro picture. This camera has a narrow plane of focus in the macro mode which makes focusing a bit of a task. The pictures from the macro camera often looked dull without any details and is the most disappointing feature of this phone.
Using the Nightscape mode we were able to get pictures with greater details, though autofocusing behaved erratically at times. Even though the sharpness goes for a toss near the corners as more noise creeps in, the centre area remains in focus and brightens up the scene by a decent margin. The same goes for the ultra-wide-angle camera in Nightscape mode which is better at producing colours and details in low-lit environments.
The OnePlus 8 is capable of recording videos in 4K UHD at up to 60FPS and Full HD at up to 240FPS with support for EIS and OIS. The videos from the primary camera are pretty good and stable for the most part. While recording, the camera is able to maintain the focus instantly which is something that the Pro model lacked as it takes too much time to attain focus on a subject of your choosing. One thing we noticed was that there was no option of switching to ultra-wide-angle camera when shooting videos which is a bummer.
As for the 16MP selfie camera, it creates good-looking pictures in daylight while in low-lit environments the pictures look increasingly processed.
There’s a portrait mode that creates a depth-of-field effect around your face while taking a selfie and it is able to separate the foreground from the background pretty easily.
(Note: The camera samples here are resized for web. You can view the high-res pictures here.)
OnePlus 8 has a 4,300mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging and comes with the Warp Charge 30 adapter in-the-box. The battery performance depends on different use cases and based on my use, the phone is able to last for a full day and sometimes even more than 24 hours on normal use consisting of a lot of social media use, web browsing, listening to music and watching videos in between.
If you’re someone who plays games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile extensively, the phone should still give you a day’s worth of use on a single charge and it’s definitely on the higher side considering the competition.
Surprisingly, in our video loop test, the OnePlus 8 lasted for a full 15 hours on 100 per cent brightness with a three-hour movie running on a loop for the entire time and constant internet connectivity. This is a pretty good result in our books when it comes to battery efficiency especially with the 90Hz refresh rate. The battery took a 7 per cent hit on a 15 minutes session of CoD Mobile, which again is pretty decent.
The phone took 30 minutes to go from 0-50 per cent and 72 minutes to charge fully from 0 to 100 per cent. While it isn’t the fastest fast-charging solution available in the market, you’d just be fine with what the OnePlus 8 offers.
OnePlus 8 features a 6.55-inch display that has a Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution and uses an AMOLED panel. The screen is HDR10+ certified and has a 90Hz high-refresh-rate which makes everything look buttery-smooth. The display has a peak brightness of 908 nits as measured by our light meter and minimum luminance of 7 nits. This means that the screen can achieve an excellent level of brightness which comes in handy when watching a video or a movie on the phone.
OnePlus has gone with a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera this time which gives the screen a 20:9 aspect ratio. It can feel a bit odd when looking at the display for the first time, not so much as the small cutout but rather a black dot in the top corner, but give it some time and your eyes will likely be comfortable with it at the end.
The display is also curved on the sides offering an immersive viewing experience, something that's common with premium flagship phones these days. It has the perfect amount of bend, lesser than the 8 Pro, which makes it comfortable to use with one hand and with gestures enabled. In my use, I did not notice any accidental touch inputs something that's known to be irksome with a curved screen.
The screen on the OnePlus 8 is fairly good at reproducing colours accurately with excellent clarity and has great viewing angles. The sunlight legibility is good too and on par with the competition.
But say for instance you prefer screens with more saturation, OnePlus offers an advanced screen calibration option that lets you tweak the colours between preset options Adobe sRGB and DCI-P3 range. Another thing we noticed was that the curvature of the screen isn't too prominent so you won't be able to notice it when looking directly at it. This adds to the overall experience of interacting with the display.
Another notable thing about OnePlus phones in recent years has to be the biometric security it offers with the in-display fingerprint reader which is able to identify your prints and unlocks your phone in a jiffy.
The OnePlus 8 seems to be a very refined smartphone in terms of the design language and is lightweight as well. The phone measures 8 millimetres at its thickest point and weighs in at 180 grams, making it one of the thinnest and lightweight flagship phones to exist right now.
OnePlus 8 comes in three colours-- Onyx Black with a glossy finish, Interstellar Glow with a reflective finish and Glacial Green with a matte finish. Naturally, the black and Glow colour variants are prone to smudges a lot more than the matte version.
It is quite handy to use for day-to-day activities and at no point did the size or weight come across as a hurdle in the overall experience. The OnePlus 8 is built using aluminium chassis slapped with Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides making it durable and comfortable when in the hand.
The conventional candy-bar design just seems refreshing and comfortable to hold with its rounded corners along with a display that just perfectly tapers a bit on the edges. OnePlus offers a transparent case in-the-box which fits just perfectly on the phone with big and bold "Never Settle" written across. It doesn't look odd as it's only visible from certain angles and the best part is that it doesn't add to the weight of the phone. In my use with the case put on, the phone came unscathed after a couple of drops to the marble floor.
You'll find the alert slider and power button on the right edge and the volume buttons on the left. These buttons are fairly tactile and can be easily reached with one hand. There's a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with the SIM card slot and a speaker unit.
OnePlus 8 doesn't come with an official IP certification in India, however, the same phone has received an IP68 rating when bought in-contract from the US. The missing certification is likely a cost-cutting decision and the phone you get in India offers the same ingress protection, even though it's not officially certified.
OnePlus 8 nails the essentials which makes it a pretty well-balanced offering from the company. Notwithstanding the unsettled camera performance, it remains a powerful performer with the smoothest Android experience currently available in the market. The display on the OnePlus 8 is great for watching videos and binge-watching Netflix. The battery life of OnePlus 8 is great too and if not better, it’s at least on par with the competition.
So, if you’re not that critical about getting a versatile pair of cameras on your smartphone, the OnePlus 8 can be considered as a viable option as it offers you a no-frills Android experience and is a phone you can depend upon starting at Rs 41,999.
Sure there are alternatives like the Realme X50 Pro and the iQOO 3 that offer a versatile set of rear cameras but the overall experience of the OnePlus 8 remains unmatched.

The Intex Q11 is a sub-par smartphone in all respects. It fails in terms of performance, camera and almost everything else. We would recommend spending a little more, to buy the Xiaomi Redmi 3s.
Smartphone makers have been relentlessly innovating in the budget segments. Unfortunately, the innovations we’ve seen in the sub-20K or sub-15k segments haven’t yet trickled down to phones that cost even lesser. To be precise, most sub 7K smartphones still feature 2-year-old hardware and negligible performance boosts compared to last generations. So, when the Intex Q11 4G was dropped off at my desk, I was a tad unsure about how it would fare. Frankly speaking, the phone doesn’t seem very competent on paper.
Interestingly, its main feature is the VR capabilities built into it. But, we’ll get to that later. For now, let’s begin with the look and feel.
Build and Design
The design and build quality of the Intex Q11 4G is pedestrian. The glossy back on the phone feels odd and somewhat cheap. It also looks low-end, but seems sturdy enough, considering the price. There’s a certain heft to it and even though the surface looks fragile, it’s not easily scratched, and can withstand an occasional knock or two. Intex does provide an additional clear-case and screen protector in the box, but I believe there’s definitely room for improvement.
Beside the two physical power and volume rocker keys, there is a silent toggle on the left side of the phone. All three physical keys work as intended, but they don’t respond at times. Also, the buttons feel shallow, as they would if the phone was inside a case.
Also, the phone looks like a carbon copy of the Intex 5.5VR smartphone, which was launched a few months back. The two devices share features as well.
Display and UI
Even the displays on the two devices are the same. The 5.5-inch screen on the phone seems quite good, considering the price. Touch response is wonky, though, it’s more like a hit and miss at times. It works sometimes and at others, takes more than a single tap.
Slow performance makes the sub-par touch performance feel worse, which I shall explain in the performance section. The colour reproduction is quite good, but again, viewing angles are just about average. Sunlight visibility isn't great either and there is a visible colour shift from not so wide angles.
The UI remains the same as well. It bears a stock like facade, which is then integrated into an advert-ridden ecosystem. There are almost a dozen pre-loaded apps, most of which can't be uninstalled. The camera app has shortcuts to a shopping app and editing app. Intex’s own app aggregator will also keep popping up on the device’s notification panel and can be dismissed only after you open it and install a few apps. If you don’t want to, you just have to live with it.
The leftmost homescreen include some weather and current news info from partner apps. While some may like this, and it works as intended, all this together makes it seem like the phone is made primarily to sell apps, rather than providing a good experience.
Performance
The performance of the phone was quite disappointing too. Firstly, there isn’t enough space on, with only 8GB of internal storage. With less than 4GB available to the user, the phone refused to install my regular set of test applications. Further, thanks to Intex’s app aggregator, I ended up installing more unwanted apps, which I then uninstalled.
Interestingly, the phone does not handle apps well either. It lags in simple navigation tasks, like opening recent tabs. This is partly due to the fact that it has only 1GB of RAM and partly because the UI lacks optimisation. It became quite apparent, as simpler games, such as 32 Secs hung a couple of times, when it was the only active task. While the phone does manage to run apps such Facebook, Gmail and Chrome, the experience here is sluggish.
VR is supposed to be a redeeming feature here, and while it does run, it’s not flawless. You can play 360 degree videos via YouTube or watch a pre-loaded videos, but that’s pretty much it. The gyroscope often loses alignment and there isn't much space to install VR games either. Here are some synthetic benchmarks, which do not truly justify the phone’s performance in day-to-day performance.
Given its performance otherwise, it’s confounding why Intex wants to sell it on VR capabilities. While lower tier markets may not be privy to things like the Samsung Gear VR (which are not perfect either), this is not the first taste of VR that you should get.
Battery
The PC Mark battery test returns 7 hours and 23 minutes of battery life, which is the industry average today. Using the phone as a daily driver with a Jio SIM, it made it through a normal work-day with over half a dozen calls, about an hour of video streaming, and heavy Facebook and browser usage.
I didn't game much on the device, though, due to unplayable frame rates. Looking past that, there was a drop of 18% in an hour of gaming, with Breakneck.
At one time, while testing the device, it was showing wrong info about the remaining battery percentage. The battery percentage dropped from 30% to 14% suddenly, and then went back up to 35% in the span of less than a minute. This could be an UI issue, or may even be a sign of larger problems. Regardless, it’s not something you want on a phone you just bought.
Once discharged, the 2800mAh removable battery takes about 4-5 hours to charge back, which is inconvenient.
Camera
The 8MP rear shooter is again sub-par. Images taken during daytime are dull, lack details and have softer focus, which ruins image all together. Colour reproduction is way off the mark and dynamic range is poor. This also means the camera is unable to process different shades of the same colour properly. As a result, objects lose appeal and pictures lose composure. Image quality further deteriorates as you move indoors and under low light. Under fluorescent light, images appear hazy, with softer focus. Photos are underscored by low details and visible noise. Low light images are almost unusable.
View post on imgur.com
Bottomline
The Intex Q11 4G is a sub-par phone, despite its low price. Its performance is inadequate, the UI is irritating, the camera is unsatisfactory and build quality and design are pedestrian. It’s VR elements aren’t flawless either. I would suggest you raise your budget to about 7K and get the Xiaomi Redmi 3S, which is a much better phone than this.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 easily beats the RTX 2080 across all games and synthetic benchmarks by about 30-70 per cent. In some titles, it events goes ham and achieves 2x the performance. So there's little need to worry over there. It's even cooler than previous gen reference cards. So there's little reason to skip this generation. If you're looking for a flagship GPU to own, this is it. We're still going to wait for the AMD RDNA GPUS in the form of the RX 6000 series but by the looks of it, AMD has a tough job if it wants the performance crown.
Price | 71000 |
After two whole years, we're looking at the next major GPU launch cycle with NVIDIA Ampere RTX 30 series and AMD's RDNA2 RX 6000 cards right around the corner. During launch, NVIDIA CEO showcased the new Ampere cards while claiming 2x performance and 1.9x greater performance-per-watt over the older Turing RTX 20-series cards. We're going to be looking at the RTX 3080 today since that's the first Ampere card to be launched with the RTX 3090 coming within two weeks from now and the RTX 3070 coming later in October. At Rs 71,000 it has the same launch price as the RTX 2080, the RTX 3080 doesn't have to convince gamers. It supposedly even beats the RTX 2080 Ti which costs a lot more but by what margin? Let's figure that out.
The specifications for the three RTX 30 cards when compared to their RTX 20 counterparts let you know exactly how they are positioned. With 24 GB of memory, the RTX 3090 is akin to the RTX TITAN and would be targeted at workstations and multitasking machines which require a lot of CUDA cores. Whereas, the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 are very much similar to the RTX 2080 and RTX 2070 in terms of positioning. Which bears the question, what's the equivalent for the RTX 2080 Ti? It would appear that NVIDIA is holding back till AMD's RDNA2 "Big Navi" cards are released in November 2020. We should hopefully see RTX 3080 Ti or Super cards that equal or beat the RDNA cards as a reaction to AMD's cards.
The RTX 3080 in particular has 8704 CUDA cores if you look at how the SMs have been completely revamped compared to Turing. We have six GPCs within the GA102 GPU for the RTX 3080 but there's asymmetry with the GPC configuration. There are 4 GPCs which have 12 SMs each and there are two GPUs with 10 SMs in them. Overall, we're looking at 68 SMs with a total with 8704 CUDA cores in all.
We have featured some of the GTX 10 series cards along with most of the RTX 20 series cards including the Super cards. A few AMD RX 5000 series cards were also thrown into the mix to see how good the cards perform against the competition. With AMD’s Big Navi around the corner, it’ll be great to see how these RTX 30 cards and RDNA2 cards go up against each other. Like always, we have a section for synthetic benchmarks as well as gaming benchmarks with plenty of charts to showcase differences. Coming to the rig, this is what we’re running our benchmarks on.

Some of these cards were sourced from friends owing to the fact that the current lockdown situation has made it extremely difficult to get graphics cards in time for the benchmarks. Let's start with the synthetic benchmarks.
3DMark
In 3DMark, we prefer the Fire Strike Ultra benchmark since the Extreme and normal runs have started producing ridiculous scores with newer GPUs. The other benchmark within 3DMark which we use is Time Spy and we run both, the normal run and the extreme run. Here, we’re showcasing Fire Strike Ultra and Time Spy scores. The RTX 3080 scores 10959 in 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra which puts it 68.4 per cent ahead of the RTX 2080 and 35 per cent ahead of the RTX 2080 Ti
Time spy shows a slightly conservative figure with a 54.5 per cent lead over the RTX 2080 and a 30 per cent lead over the RTX 2080 Ti. Did we say conservative? We should have said “relatively conservative”.
Basemark GPU
Basemark GPU is a nice benchmark to compare the performance of different graphics APIs between cards. We can use the same textures with OpenGL, Vulkan and DirectX 12 to see if the graphics card excels at any particular API more than the rest or if the performance is consistent across the board. The RTX 3080 achieves scores that are between 66-81 per cent greater than the RTX 2080 and about 26-31 per cent greater than the RTX 2080 Ti. Surprisingly, Ampere’s OpenGL performance has improved the most with DX12 coming in at second and Vulkan bringing in the rear.
Blender
Blender is a great 3D modeling and animation software that’s open-source and it is the preferred tool for folks wanting to get their hands dirty with 3D modeling. We use version 2.8 to keep up with legacy scores that we have for older cards. The latest stable version would be 2.9 and it’s an incremental upgrade. We use the classroom scene since that’s capable of utilising the GPU for rendering the scene aside from the CPU. The RTX 3080 finished the scene in 1m 18s which is a decent 4 seconds lesser than the RTX 2080 Ti. As for the RTX 2080, it renders the scene in about 94 seconds so that’s a 16 second lead for the RTX 3080.
IndigoBench
This is the latest synthetic to be added to our test suite. IndigoBench is based on the Indigo 4 rendering engine that’s available for popular software such as SketchUp, Blender, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Revit and Maya. It uses OpenCL and can benchmark both, the CPU and GPU together or individually. We prefer to test just the GPU with the software and the score provided is in terms of .M samples/s’. The RTX 3080 clocked in at 35.751 M Samples/sec which is about 18.9 per cent more than the RTX 2080 Ti and 56.4 per cent more than the RTX 2080.
Unigine SuperPosition
Unigine SuperPosition is the other popular DX11 benchmark which we prefer to use alongside 3DMark. We run it on the Extreme Quality preset and use the score metric for delineating the performance between graphics cards. The RTX 3080 performs 17.5 per cent better than the RTX 2080 Ti and 49 per cent better than the RTX 2080.
Borderlands 3
Gearbox’s latest game in the Borderlands franchise which uses Unreal Engine 4 and allows you to switch between DirectX 11 and 12. The game has an inbuilt benchmark which takes you through an array of stressful scenarios. The DirectX 12 version is quite flaky and we prefer to use the DirectX 11 API while benchmarking the game and all our existing data is based off the DX11 version so there’s no point switching now. In Borderlands 3, the RTX 3080 performs about 25-28 per cent better than the RTX 2080 Ti and about 56-58 per cent better than the RTX 2080. This is a pretty sizable jump in performance.
Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding has been a recent addition to the PC scene and had been a PlayStation exclusive until July 2020. Being a console game, the game engine is quite optimised to make use of the scarce resources one gets with consoles. However, when 505 Games ported the game to PC, you wouldn’t end up calling the game a console port. The Decima game engine is capable of rendering up to 4K and can use high dynamic-range imaging and is also geared for the upcoming next-gen PlayStation console. It’s also the same engine used by Horizon Zero Dawn. We saw the RTX 3080 perform about 23 per cent better than the RTX 2080 at 1080p and 1440p and about 11-15 per cent better than the RTX 2080 Ti.
Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal takes the story forward from the 2016 DOOM and it does it in spectacular fashion. It’s also one of the new games to incorporate ray-tracing as an update. The game is based on the latest Id Tech 7 game engine from Bethesda and is tremendously optimised for current gen hardware. Unlike the previous DOOM which allowed you to choose between DirectX and Vulkan, Doom Eternal is locked to Vulkan and makes use of RTX to level-up the ingame visuals. We keep the FOV at default with all the other graphics settings cranked up to Ultra Nightmare. Motion Blur is switched off across all runs because it takes away from the visual fidelity and makes running a benchmark kinda pointless. Performance metrics for Doom Eternal put the RTX 3080 a good 2x over the RTX 2080 and 1x over the RTX 2080 Ti. And we’re talking 4K here. With 1080p resolution, the FPS values are so high that the difference isn’t clear. We averaged a 57 per cent improvement over the RTX 2080 at 1080p. And compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, it was 30 per cent better at 1080p.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
We run Shadow of the Tomb Raider in DirectX12 mode. It ends up consuming a little more memory as most games that support both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. The preset is set to the highest quality and HBAO+ enabled. The ingame benchmark tool takes us through several scenes which feature open spaces as well as closed spaces with lots of world detail aside from the central character. The RTX 3080 performs about 61-67 per cent better than the RTX 2080 at 1440p and 2160p resolutions, whereas on 1080p, it ends up performing about 49 per cent better than the RTX 2080. When compared against the RTX 2080 Ti, we see the performance difference drop to about 30 per cent.
The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is yet another game wherein we can see the generational improvements quite clearly as the game is still capable of stressing the top-end graphics cards. This seems to be changing of late as the RTX 3080 ended up getting 107 FPS at 4K with the ultra preset. We do switch off NVIDIA Hairworks in our bench runs since it’s a proprietary NVIDIA feature and that messes up the performance measurements between AMD and NVIDIA cards. When compared with the RTX 2080, we see that the RTX 3080 is approximately 74 per cent better in 1080p, 1440p and 2160p benchmarks. And when compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, which is the more appropriate comparison till it gets trumped later on, the RTX 3080 performs about 37-44 per cent better.
During most of our gaming benchmarks we didn't see the RTX 3080 go over 65 degrees celsius. The entire card is a massive heatsink so it has that in its favour. While cooling has been achieved, one needs to examine why such a beefy cooler was needed in the first place. In some benchmarks, we saw the RTX 3080 consume 320 watts consistently. Peak power consumption would hit 335 watts quite frequently which is a ridiculous amount for the graphics card. We're looking at the bygone era's of dual-GPU graphics cards with values such as this one. We can only imagine what the RTX 3090 would. Also, our 1200W PSU seems to have conked off in the midst of benchmarking the RTX 3080 and we had to slip in a newer 750W PSU for the rest of the benchmarks. Power consumption values remained the same with both PSUs.
The Founders Edition NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 will be priced at Rs 71,000 in India. The RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 pricing seem to be similar to the launch prices for their RTX 20 counterparts. Launch price for the RTX 2080 Ti Founder’s Edition was Rs 1,02,500 and the RTX 2080 started off for Rs 68,500 and lastly, the RTX 2070 was priced at Rs 51,200.

The good looks of the Realme 1 hides the inconsistencies of the phone. It tries to get ahead of the game by gaming the synthetic benchmarks but falls flat in real world performance. It positions itself as a selfie-centric phone but the selfies from the phone comes off as artificial and puffed up.
Oppo has been a player in the Indian smartphone market for quite some time now. The China-based company, owned by BBK Electronics has positioned itself more as a premium brand in the country. Most of Oppo’s offerings have been more or less expensive with a strong emphasis on selfies. One could say Oppo’s offerings are more of a lifestyle device than just a piece of technology. However, the highest demand in the smartphone market in India is for mid-range phones that are low on price and high on features. Oppo wanted a piece of the mid-range cake, but being a premium brand, it can’t just come out with a cheap phone. Hence the brand, Realme. Just like what Xiaomi did with the Redmi brand, Realme wants to do the same for Oppo.
But whether the bet of introducing a new brand will pay off for Oppo or not is fodder for another discussion. The focus right now is whether Realme 1, the first phone under the new sub-brand is an attractive proposition. The phone certainly look different and the diamond black flair adds to the premium charm of it.
The Realme 1 launched in India exclusively to take on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but how far does it go to settle the argument? We find out.
Design
The Realme 1 looks distinctly different from all other phones at its price, thanks to the diamond-like reflective body. The phone is housed inside a fibre-glass casing that has been cut at different angles such that each section of the glass back turns to a different shade of black when light is reflecting off it. It does look a lot like a diamond. If you like your gadgets shiny and glossy, this phone will catch your eye. The same glossy finish runs along the edges as well.
The front is all screen. There are no capacitive navigation button on the front. Even the fingerprint sensor is missing. The Realme 1 relies only on facial recognition for authentication. It’s a brave move by a brand that’s taking its first plunge in a highly competitive market, and other than just being perceived as future forward, it’s actually detrimental to the experience. The user loses out on the reliability of the fingerprint when authenticating purchases. The face unlock is quick, but isn’t reliable enough to keep user’s data secure. You can use facial authentication to access the private space (where you can store apps and data securely), and private apps (that are password-locked). In a practical scenario, the phone was unlocked by a colleague by simply pointing it at my face from a distance.
Apart from the diamond-black finish, it’s a pretty straightforward phone. It rocks the in-vogue univisium form factor and is just 7.8mm thick. There’s an ugly bulge along the edge of the phone that messes with the grip. The screen takes up most of the real-estate up front. The screen-to-body ratio is around 84 percent, which Realme managed to do by fitting the usual 6-inch display in a smaller 6.14-inch frame. The phone is offered in two more colours — Red and silver, but that will be available later in June.
Display
The Realme 1 sports a standard-issue 6-inch Full HD+ display of 18:9 aspect ratio. The panel is just about average with decent colour reproduction. The colour tones are slightly on the cooler side and brightness isn’t high enough to be visible properly when outdoors. In fact, there’s some colour loss at peak brightness and texts appear faded under direct sunlight. The panel quiet reflective too. You get the usual blue-light filters and options to tweak the colour temperature.
The good part about the panel is that it takes up most of the real estate up front with minimal bezels on the top and the bottom. The sides are also quite thin, which gives off an immersive feel to the content.
Performance and UI
The Realme 1 wants to be the phone of choice for mid-range buyers. The undercutting price point is one instance where it shows. But more than that, it’s the brand’s attempt to beat the best in its maiden attempt that brings out the competitive attitude of the company.
The Realme 1 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 SoC which is MediaTek’s most advanced chipset. It comes with an AI chip inside that can compute machine learning tasks on the device itself. It is what powers the facial recognition and the battery efficiency, apart from other things. It’s an octa-core chipset built on a 12nm FinFET process with four Cortex A53 and four Cortex A73 cores, all clocked at 2GHz frequency. On paper it’s faster than its Qualcomm counterpart, as the benchmark results from AnTuTu 7.0 and Geekbench will state. However, when I monitored how the chipset was being used, I observed some anomaly. It seemed for both the benchmark tests, which is comprised of multiple small tasks that stress the CPU to measure performance, the chipset was running at a constant 2.0GHz, irrespective whether the load on the CPU was minimal or at its peak. It could either be an anomaly with the unit I received or Realme is gaming a popular benchmark tests. In a more real world scenario, when the performance was measured while playing the new PubG Mobile game, the CPU speed matched the load put on it. The AnTuTu score for the Realme 1 was 138260 against the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s 112652. The Geekbench Single Core and Multi Core scores are also higher at 1490 and 5682 respectively. But in both cases, the CPU was artificially plonked up to eke out a better score.
We performed a similar analysis on the Redmi Note 5 Pro which proved to be more consistent in responding to CPU load both during synthetic benchmark tests and real world scenarios. The Realme 1’s anomaly seems a little too deliberative. Nevertheless, there’s 6GB RAM and 128GB storage on the unit we re. It leaves enough resources free despite a heavy user interface. It also support dual VoLTE which is useful in the Indian context.
The Realme 1 relies on Oppo’s Colour OS. It’s definitely functional like all Android-layered user interfaces these days, but I wouldn’t call it particularly appealing. It lacks the attention to detail that MIUI is known or the simplicity of stock Android. Instead, the UI seems cluttered with disproportional icons and overall looks quite cartoonish. It does come with a game mode, a private space and the usual bells and whistles of Android Oreo, but that doesn’t take away the fact how uninviting the UI looks for a nitpicking user.
Camera
The fate of smartphones these days is decided by how good the camera is. The Realme 1, in that section, is quite underwhelming in comparison to the competition. It has a single 13-megapixel sensor at the back while on the front is an 8-megapixel shooter. The focus, unsurprisingly, is on selfies and portrait shots. The phone relies on Oppo’s AI algorithms to fine-tune the photos which the company claims works by analysing 296 recognition points to understand the skin tone, age, gender, etc. Based on that analysis, the phone applies one of 8 million ‘beauty solutions’ to the image.
The end result is simply a photo with extreme layers of softening, so much so, that all spots and blemishes are hidden. It was a tad difficult for me to accept the effects, but I suppose there’s a demand for them in a country where fairness creams are one of the highest selling products. If beautification is what you’re seeking from a smartphone camera, the Realme 1 will be a pure delight. But if you’re a little more serious about taking good photos, the phone might leave you hanging.
In daylight, the photos have ample highlight clipping. There’s practically no detail in the bright sky in the photo below. Furthermore, the camera tends to saturate the colours more than they are in reality. It also lacks the desired dynamic range.
Indoor shots are a little more polished. The controlled light brings out the good side of the camera. There’s more controlled AI enhancement and the little that it does, it makes objects look much better than they are in real. You get good sharp images with a slightly warmer white balance. There’s some glare off the source of light though, which might be a lens issue.
Under low light, the camera fails to show much promise. Grains show up if you try to dial the exposure higher to take an image under poor lighting, with little to no detail. The shutter speed is actually dialled up when there’s less light which demands a steady hand and if the object is moving, you get a blurred photo.
The portrait mode is present both on the front and the back camera. The Realme 1 relies on software to simulate the depth-of-field effect. It’s nowhere as consistent as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but it does the job as far as blurring the background is concerned.
Battery
The Realme 1 is powered by a 3410mAh battery. For those comparing, that’s a hairline more than what Xiaomi’s best mid-range phone offers, and the battery life of the phone is more or less at par. The phone managed to run for 6 hours on the PCMark Battery 2.0 Test which should easily convert to over a day’s usage for an average user. For the review, I used the phone to browse the internet, play games, take photos and use social media. It did last me for a typical work day and then some more. The Helio P60 chipset seems to be quite energy-efficient and based on the battery life, Realme seems to be delivering on its promise of using machine learning to manage resources. The battery section in the Settings app gives some insight in how much juice each app takes and apart from the resource-intensive game I was playing, the UI sucked up most of the battery. When you are running out of power on this phone, you know what to blame.
Bottomline
The debutante Realme 1’s ambition to compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is quite apparent. It looks boldly different from the rest, but a good design will only take it so far. The performance is nowhere near the best in the market, despite the benchmark results telling you so. The camera which is propped up by on-device machine learning ends up delivering unnaturally softened photos while the UI comes off quite amateurish. The battery life is the only saving grace, but overall this phone isn’t what it advertises to be. Oppo’s decision to come out with a new sub-brand to cater to the highly competitive mid-range market may be driven by consumer demand, but there’s little in the phone to entice buyers, apart from a good looking device.

Shruti Modi reached Narcotics Control Bureau's office in south Mumbai today for questioning
A member of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) team probing drugs angle in actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case has tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday following which questioning of the actor's former manager Shruti Modi has been postponed, an official said.
Shruti Modi reached the NCB office in south Mumbai around 10 am for questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
But, before the probe team could start recording her statement, the NCB received report of one of its SIT members testing positive for coronavirus, the official said.
The SIT member's antigen test came out positive, he said, adding that other members of the probe team will also be tested and all protocols will be followed.
"Accordingly, we sent back Shruti Modi who had joined the investigation in the morning," he said.
The NCB on Tuesday asked Shruti Modi and Sushant Singh Rajput's talent manager Jaya Saha to join its investigation to get a better picture on some aspects of the case. Jaya Saha will now be called later, the official said.
So far, the top drug law enforcement agency has arrested 18 people, including Sushant Rajput's friend and actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty.
Earlier, statements of Shruti Modi and Jaya Saha were recorded by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is separately probing the Sushant death case.
They were also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Mumbai Police in connection with cases linked to the actor's death probe.
Chats of Jaya Saha with Rhea Chakraborty had come to light during the ED's questioning, the official added.
Sushant Singh Rajput (34) was found hanging in his flat in Mumbai's suburban Bandra on June 14.

CHICAGO: Willson Contreras and Cameron Maybin were plunked by consecutive pitches from Cleveland reliever Nick Wittgren in the ninth inning, forcing home the winning run as the Chicago Cubs beat the Indians 6-5 Tuesday night.
After Cleveland tied the game at 5 with two runs in the top of the ninth, left-hander Oliver Prez (1-1) allowed a one-out walk to Kris Bryant in the bottom of the inning. Anthony Rizzo followed with a single that advanced Bryant to third. Wittgren drilled Contreras with a 1-1 fastball, then hit Maybin with a bases-loaded changeup.
Trailing 5-3 in the ninth, Josh Naylor drew a leadoff walk from Cubs closer Jeremy Jeffress. One out later, Francisco Lindor hit a two-run shot to left to tie the game. It was his eighth of the season and the second blown save for Jeffress (4-1).
Javier Bez also homered for the Cubs, who increased their lead to five games in the NL Central.
Lindor’s home run took away a victory for Cubs starter Yu Darvish. The NL Cy Young Award candidate allowed three runs and nine hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and walked one as he bounced back from a loss to the Reds in his last outing.
Rookie Tyler Naquin was 4 for 4 for the Indians, who lost their season-high seventh straight game.
With the score tied at three in the seventh, Indians reliever James Karinchak walked Bryant with one out. Bryant advanced to third on Rizzo’s single, and Contreras followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score the go-ahead run.
Bez manufactured an insurance run in the eighth. He walked, stole second and came around to score after catcher Sandy Len’s throw went into center. Baez never hesitated, rounding third and beating Cleveland’s relay.
Happ doubled to center for the Cubs in the fifth and scored on Bryants single. Rizzo followed with an RBI double to tie the game at 3.
Lindor had three hits and four RBIs, including a run-scoring double during a two-run third. He was later thrown out at home by right fielder Jason Heyward on Jos Ramrezs flyout.
DeShields doubled with one out in the fifth and scored on Lindor’s single to give the Indians a 3-1 lead.
With one out in the second inning, Bez hit a towering home run to straightaway center field to put the Cubs up 1-0. It was Baezs seventh of the season.
Indians starter Carlos Carrasco pitched six innings and allowed three runs and eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk in the no-decision.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Cubs: RHP Tyler Chatwood suffered a setback in his hopes of returning from a forearm strain . I don’t want to make a statement that his season is over, but I would say there is definitely a lot of caution, said Cubs manager David Ross.
UP NEXT
Indians: RHP Aaron Civale (3-5) is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Cubs. He has gone at least six innings in all nine of his starts this season, despite losing three of his last four starts.
Cubs: LHP Jon Lester (2-2), who is coming off one of his best starts of the season, is Chicago’s scheduled starter. He struck out a season-high eight batters in six scoreless innings against the Brewers on Friday.

Little by little, medical researchers are beginning to uncover more about the 2019 novel coronavirus. Until the vaccine or an effective drug becomes available, prevention remains the best way to control the spread of this highly contagious pathogen. Meanwhile, there are those who were hospitalised due to mild or severe symptoms and eventually discharged after tests confirm they were negative. However, scientists are still baffled by the long-term effects that continue to incapacitate people even after they have fully recovered.
Therefore, leading experts have been called in to find out what is causing these cycles of illnesses. The main complaints from patients include brain fog, chronic fatigue, and difficulty in breathing. "At the moment it is just so unknown. We're still very much at the point where we're learning what the after-effects are," explained co-investigator Dr. Rachael Evans. "It has become very apparent that the long-term effects can happen to people that were young and fit before and perhaps had a fairly mild acute illness... enough to bring them to hospital but maybe only a day or two."
One of the cases that were highlighted involved a 22-year-old patient who was considered physically fit prior to her being diagnosed with COVID-19. It has been six months since her recovery, but she still suffers from irregular heart rate, fever, nausea, and chronic fatigue. Upon checking her medical history, there were reportedly no pre-existing conditions.
The respiratory consultant pointed out that most pneumonia cases can take up to three months to make a full recovery. On the other hand, patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 continue to experience various symptoms for much longer. In her 23 years with the National Health Service (NHS) there has been no recorded precedent in respiratory medicine, reports the Evening Standard.
As such, the post-hospitalisation COVID-19 study (PHOSP-COVID) is a UK-wide collaboration between leading researchers. It is an effort to better understand and provide care for people with long-term effects of the disease.
The study hopes to recruit 10,000 COVID-19 patients who have recovered and monitor them for a year or longer. Funding will be provided by the UK Research and Innovation group along with the National Institute for Health Research. The ultimate goal is to discover treatments and learn how to prevent various long-term effects.
Before autonomous vehicles participate in road traffic, they must demonstrate conclusively that they do not pose a danger to others. New software developed at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) prevents accidents by predicting different variants of a traffic situation every millisecond.
A car approaches an intersection. Another vehicle jets out of the cross street, but it is not yet clear whether it will turn right or left. At the same time, a pedestrian steps into the lane directly in front of the car, and there is a cyclist on the other side of the street. People with road traffic experience will in general assess the movements of other traffic participants correctly.
"These kinds of situations present an enormous challenge for autonomous vehicles controlled by computer programs," explains Matthias Althoff, Professor of Cyber-Physical Systems at TUM. "But autonomous driving will only gain acceptance of the general public if you can ensure that the vehicles will not endanger other road users -- no matter how confusing the traffic situation."
Algorithms that peer into the future
The ultimate goal when developing software for autonomous vehicles is to ensure that they will not cause accidents. Althoff, who is a member of the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence at TUM, and his team have now developed a software module that permanently analyzes and predicts events while driving. Vehicle sensor data are recorded and evaluated every millisecond. The software can calculate all possible movements for every traffic participant -- provided they adhere to the road traffic regulations -- allowing the system to look three to six seconds into the future.
Based on these future scenarios, the system determines a variety of movement options for the vehicle. At the same time, the program calculates potential emergency maneuvers in which the vehicle can be moved out of harm's way by accelerating or braking without endangering others. The autonomous vehicle may only follow routes that are free of foreseeable collisions and for which an emergency maneuver option has been identified.
Streamlined models for swift calculations
This kind of detailed traffic situation forecasting was previously considered too time-consuming and thus impractical. But now, the Munich research team has shown not only the theoretical viability of real-time data analysis with simultaneous simulation of future traffic events: They have also demonstrated that it delivers reliable results.
The quick calculations are made possible by simplified dynamic models. So-called reachability analysis is used to calculate potential future positions a car or a pedestrian might assume. When all characteristics of the road users are taken into account, the calculations become prohibitively time-consuming. That is why Althoff and his team work with simplified models. These are superior to the real ones in terms of their range of motion -- yet, mathematically easier to handle. This enhanced freedom of movement allows the models to depict a larger number of possible positions but includes the subset of positions expected for actual road users.
Real traffic data for a virtual test environment
For their evaluation, the computer scientists created a virtual model based on real data they had collected during test drives with an autonomous vehicle in Munich. This allowed them to craft a test environment that closely reflects everyday traffic scenarios. "Using the simulations, we were able to establish that the safety module does not lead to any loss of performance in terms of driving behavior, the predictive calculations are correct, accidents are prevented, and in emergency situations the vehicle is demonstrably brought to a safe stop," Althoff sums up.
The computer scientist emphasizes that the new security software could simplify the development of autonomous vehicles because it can be combined with all standard motion control programs.

Javed Akhtar
Celebrated lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently shared his point-of-view on the raging debate on nepotism in Bollywood. Ever since the tragic demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bollywood has come under fire for issues like discrimination of outsiders and alleged drug usage.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Akhtar said that people are confusing inheritance with nepotism. "Inheritance cannot be called nepotism. I think people are confusing inheritance with nepotism. In film industry, nepotism is not possible because ultimately, the person who is buying the ticket at the box office is the voter and that cannot be rigged. May be somebody born in a film family has a foot in the door, but that’s about all," he said.
Talking about drug consumption in Bollywood, he said that it is the malice of the society. He further added that he has only heard and not seen any drug with his own eyes.
"But I have heard the young people tend to use drugs, but that is not just in film industry, it is the current malice of the society. That should be looked into. And I don’t know what is illegal and what is legal,” he added.
Akhtar was recently ghe recipient of the Richard Dawkins Award. He is currently the Chairman The Indian Performing Right Society (IRPS).

LONDON: Investors were generally cautious before the Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday, boosting the yen, as the rally that pushed up shares after Chinese and U.S. economic data in the previous session slowed in early London trading.
Risk appetite was limited ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy meeting, and its statement at 1800 GMT.
European shares were mixed at the opening, but then rose, with the Stoxx 600 up around 0.3%, pushed up by gains in retail stocks.
The MSCI world equity index, which tracks shares in 49 countries, was up 0.2% at 0724 GMT, while MSCI’s main European Index was up 0.3%.

The Fed is not expected to make changes to its monetary policy at the meeting, which will be its first since it announced that it would pursue average inflation targeting.
Although the economic projections are expected to be somewhat improved from the last round of forecasts in June, Fed Chair Jerome Powell is expected to stick to his message that the road to recovery will be long and uncertain.
“While acknowledging the more rapid improvement in the economic backdrop, we expect the message to remain one of caution,” wrote RBC Capital Markets analysts in a note to clients.
“There is no upside for the committee to be positive at this juncture.”
Investors will also be watching for U.S. retail sales data, due at 1230 GMT, which is expected to show a robust increase.
London’s FTSE 100 lagged other European indexes, down 0.4%, and the pound was down against the euro, weighed down by fears of a disorderly departure from the EU single market.
UK inflation dropped to its lowest rate in almost five years last month, led by a large reduction in meal prices.
“We’ve already started to see the early signs of the unemployment rate starting to edge higher, and with the furlough coming to an end next month and already being tapered, this deflationary wave is likely to get worse in the short term,” wrote Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK.
The yen hit a two-week high of 105.250 to the U.S. dollar overnight, as investors sought safer assets, and it held close to these levels at 105.325 at 0726 GMT.
Against a basket of currencies, the dollar was a touch weaker, down 0.1% at 93.005 at 0740 GMT.
The euro was up 0.1% at $1.18595.
High-rated eurozone government debt was little changed, with the benchmark German 10-year Bund yield at -0.483%.
Oil prices rose for a second day in a row, with U.S. crude oil hitting one week highs, up 2.4% at $39.21 a barrel at 0746 GMT.
Gold prices rose, up 0.5% at $1964.38 an ounce at 0747 GMT.
Elsewhere, the World Trade Organization ruled that the United States had breached global trade rules with the multibillion-dollar tariffs it imposed during its trade war with China.
The decision had limited market impact as it is only the start of a legal process that could take years.

Three members of the gang that brutally attacked cricketer Suresh Raina's family in Punjab's Pathankot last month have been arrested, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said Wednesday, as he declared the case "solved".
Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta said the accused were part of an inter-state gang of robber-criminals and that 11 other members were on the run and efforts are being made to capture them as well.
The 33-year-old cricketer lost his uncle and a cousin after the family was attacked at their Pathankot home reportedly by robbers on August 20.
Thousands of schoolchildren across North Wales are now back at school - we want to hear what your experience has been like

The Lenovo IdeaPad S430 is a slightly slimmer and crisper IdeaPad 330S from last year with improved battery life and a physical webcam cover. Though it's missed its chance to offer its users a new colourful IPS LCD panel, it's not a bad buy if you want an Asus VivoBook alternative.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S340 has been around in the Indian laptop market for a couple of months now. It is currently on sale alongside the IdeaPad 330 and IdeaPad 330S, two models that were launched last year to fill the company’s budget laptop space along with the more premium IdeaPad 530S. This year though, Lenovo has decided to rejig its entire IdeaPad line-up even if last year’s models are still around in the market (especially during the sale season). Lenovo has prefixed the name of every non-touchscreen model in its updated 40 series with an ‘S’ to keep things uniform.
Let’s review the refreshed IdeaPad line-up just so we’re clear with the new model names: in the place of the IdeaPad 330, we have the IdeaPad S145. This year, it comes solely in a 15.6-inch avatar with dedicated media keys above the numpad. You can read our review of the new model here. In the place of the more expensive IdeaPad 530S, we have the IdeaPad S540. We’re yet to get our hands on that one. Lastly, in the place of the IdeaPad 330S, we have the IdeaPad S340—the device in question.
The IdeaPad S340 is available in 14-inch and 15.6-inch variants, starting at Rs 37,990. All of the variants listed on Lenovo’s official website are powered by a solid-state drive (either 256GB or 512GB), a move Lenovo consciously made this time around to increase the overall computing speed and keep up with the competition. Strangely though, our review unit came with a 1TB hard drive instead. What’s even more strange is that it was listed on Amazon.in for Rs 51,990 when the selfsame variant with a 256GB solid-state drive was available on Lenovo’s official website for Rs 50,990.
Our review unit featured an Intel Core i5-8265U CPU with integrated graphics. System RAM came in the form of a non-removable 4GB DDR4 chip soldered to the motherboard combined with a removable 4GB DDR4 SODIMM card, bringing the total up to 8GB. This meant future upgrades were limited to a maximum of 12GB, which is forgivable. Handling storage was not a PCIe NVMe solid-state drive but a 1TB WDC hard drive spinning at 5,400 rpm. This not so forgivable, in my opinion. On paper alone, this configuration is a tad disappointing, given the fact that you can get all this and a little more from Asus for Rs 43,990.
No Intel 9th Gen/10th Gen Core i5 here
The IdeaPad S340 bagged average scores on our CPU and GPU benchmark tests. On PCMark 8's Accelerated Creative test, our review unit picked up 3464 points. The Asus VivoBook S431 and VivoBook X403, by contrast, scored 3551 and 3724 on the same test, respectively. On 3DMark's Fire Strike and Cloud Gate, our review unit scored 1096 and 8468 points, respectively. The other two aforementioned Asus VivoBook models got ahead on the same two tests by about 100 points each. On CrystalDiskMark 6, the review unit scored an abysmally low 102.3 MB/s (sequential read) and 112.6 MB/s (sequential write), indicating that its hard drive is approximately sixteen times slower than the two VivoBooks on the same test.
IdeaPad S340 vs. VivoBook S431 vs. VivoBook X403
Same contenders here
Everyday performance of the review unit can be termed decent at best. It was apparent that the device's speed was limited greatly by its hard drive. A cold-boot to Windows 10's lock screen (without any pending Windows updates) took somewhere between one and two minutes. Getting to the desktop and being fully ready for use took another whole minute from that point. Opening File Explorer for the first time took about three and a half seconds. Opening a 1.0MB PNG image file in Photos for the first time took close to nine seconds and up to two seconds subsequently. Bringing up the Start menu or Windows Search took about two seconds on an average.
Browsing on a Chrome window with over a dozen open tabs was fairly smooth but switching between the tabs or other windows took some time. Every time I switched between windows, I noticed a second's lag in the window switcher. On the whole, the IdeaPad S340 never really stuttered or hiccupped but displayed ample lag when there was disk activity involved. It's why this model is best bought with one of the solid-state drive options that Lenovo offers on its official website. In simpler words, the sluggish hard drive inside just ruins the otherwise promising performance party on the IdeaPad S340.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S340 packs a three-cell 52.5Wh non-removable lithium-ion polymer battery, which, for a laptop of its price, is quite meaty. On our standard battery benchmark test, our review unit lasted 4 hours, 39 minutes. That's 24 minutes over the Asus VivoBook S431's score. Understandably, the IdeaPad S431 could not beat the VivoBook X403 (6 hours, 16 minutes), which packs an unusually large 72Wh battery pack. It's an acceptable score nonetheless.
On our everyday tests, where the screen is set to 80 percent brightness and Wi-Fi + Bluetooth are enabled, the review unit's charge fell from 100 to 55 percent in exactly three hours. During the tests, the IdeaPad S340 was tasked with continuous browsing (about 15 or 20 tabs on Chrome) and constant music playback through USB headphones (YouTube window open in the background). On another such run with a slightly heavier load (full brightness, a couple of app installations, file downloads, etc.), the charge fell from 100 to 45 percent in the same three-hour time frame. Charging from 30 percent back to full took about one and a half hours.
Our review unit featured a 14-inch non-touchscreen TN panel with Full HD resolution and an anti-glare finish. Colours on the panel appeared thoroughly washed out in all brightness settings. At some angles, they even appeared to have a reddish tinge. What’s more, both vertical and horizontal viewing angles were severely limited. This made text quite hard to read even if the font size wasn't too small. On the bright side, text did not look grainy the way it did on the IdeaPad S145’s screen. I found myself pushing the brightness all the way to the panel’s maximum of 220 nits on many occasions, even when I was indoors. All things considered, the IdeaPad S340’s display is a sorely disappointing one because it lacks colour and readability.
Woefully dull non-IPS TN panel
The IdeaPad S340 comes with two down-firing speakers on either side of its base panel. The sound through them is fairly loud but flat and uninspiring despite enabling the bundled Dolby Audio app. The Weeknd's Starboy sounded absolutely flat across all frequencies on our review unit. On the plus side, the max volume was enough to fill a large conference room (15 x 20 feet). This pair is best used for short, occasional YouTube watches and quick conference calls. If you want quality audio, it's best to invest in a pair of good headphones.
Weak audio despite Dolby Audio app
The IdeaPad S340 does not disappoint when it comes to connectivity. On the left side of its body, we see a proprietary round-pin power port, a full-size HDMI port, a USB-C 3.1 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for headsets. On the right side, we see a couple of USB-A 3.1 ports and a full-size SD Card reader slot. Missing in action are the LAN port, fingerprint scanner, and Kensington Security Slot. The power brick is a standard 65W matte black unit, like the one that was bundled with last year's models.
No USB-A here, sadly
A Kensington Security Slot would not have gone amiss
Interestingly, the IdeaPad S340 comes with a physical privacy shutter for its 720p webcam. That means you won't have to go around sticking a piece of tape over the webcam lens for that added peace of mind. This is the cheapest Lenovo to get the privacy shutter. Until now the feature has been available only on the more expensive ThinkPad models.
Nifty little slider for the webcam ensures privacy and peace of mind
The keyboard on the IdeaPad S340 is no different than the one on the IdeaPad 330S, and that's definitely a good thing because that unit wasn’t bad to start with. The keys possess a decent amount of resistance but could do with a bit more travel. Being a bit mushy, they could also do with a bit more ‘clickiness’. That said, they work well for long emails and documents all the same; you won’t find yourself mistyping too much along the way. In addition, there are two stages of backlighting for all your lowlight typing. In summary, the IdeaPad S340 sports a moderately comfortable keyboard.
Decent keyboard, borrowed from IdeaPad 330S
Unlike the touchpad on the cheaper IdeaPad S145, the one on the IdeaPad S340 is a Windows 10-recognised precision unit. This means the pointer’s movement is natural and linear. It also means multi-finger taps and swipes work right out of the box. All of the touchpad’s settings can be changed in Windows Settings without installing a third-party driver or utility. The two click keys under the touchpad’s smooth, smudge-free surface are fairly easy to click as long as you press within the lower half section of the touchpad.
Precision touchpad, unlike on the cheaper IdeaPad S145
This is one department in which the Lenovo IdeaPad S340 excels without a trace of doubt. Lenovo has basically taken everything that’s nice and clean in last year’s IdeaPad 330S and incorporated it in the new IdeaPad S340. It has also shaved off body thickness by 1.05mm. As a result, Lenovo’s refreshed mid-ranger looks neat and modern. The base panel ditches the curvy chins for a crisper, more ‘ThinkBook’-like look. The slim black bezels around the display continue to look slim. What’s more, there’s that privacy shutter for the webcam that we covered earlier.
Anodised aluminium top cover offers ample grip
While the top cover of the IdeaPad S340 is made of anodised aluminium, the base panel is made of plastic with soft paint coated on top. Surprisingly, the difference hardly shows when you’re carrying the device around in the hands. The IdeaPad S340 appears to be a rigid and durable machine with little flex on the lid and almost no flex on the keyboard island, so it should survive the occasional scratch (or drop, if you're lucky). There’s ample grip all around too. The display on the IdeaPad S340 goes all the way back to 180 degrees, which should make your in-bed computing sessions more comfortable. All things considered, the IdeaPad S340 is well engineered laptop for its price.
Display goes all the way back to 180 degrees
The Lenovo IdeaPad S340 is practically last year's IdeaPad 330S with a few key upgrades: improved aesthetics (including a slimmer frame), that nifty little privacy shutter for the webcam, and extended battery life. Lenovo could have used this opportunity to throw in a brighter, more colourful Full HD IPS LCD panel as well. Unfortunately for us, our review unit was fitted with a hard drive (even though all of the variants on Lenovo's official website get a solid-state drive), which killed its performance across benchmark and everyday tests. I'm confident that the same laptop with Lenovo's PCIe NVMe solid-state drive offering would have done a lot better on the performance front.
Even if we don't take into account our review unit's middling performance, the IdeaPad S340 just about manages to live up to its most immediate competitors from Taiwan. The quality of the keyboard and display on the recently launched Asus VivoBook S431 is much better. The VivoBook X403, in fact, offers roughly eight hours of battery life for a similar price. The Lenovo IdeaPad S340, then, is for hardcore Lenovo fans who missed the bus last year with the IdeaPad 330S. But if you've already got the IdeaPad 330S with the same (or similar) configuration, then the upgrade to the IdeaPad S340 doesn't make any sense. Just tape that webcam shut and keep going.

Novak Djokovic (Photo Credit: Reuters)
Novak Djokovic behaved better Wednesday in his first match since being defaulted from the U.S. Open.
The top-ranked Serb was mostly courteous with the chair umpire during a 6-3, 6-2 win over local wild-card entry Salvatore Caruso in his opening match at the Italian Open.
When the umpire came down to inspect a ball mark on the red clay early in the first set and made an overrule in Carusos favor, Djokovic just replied, Yup, and rubbed out the mark with his red sneaker.
When Caruso impressed him the Italian hit 13 winners to Djokovics 12 Djokovic said, Bravo.
Djokovics only testy moment came during the third game of the second set, which went to deuce seven times before Djokovic finally broke Carusos serve. As the game wore on, Djokovic appeared bothered by crowd noise, even though the Campo Centrale is empty of fans this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The only people inside the stadium were coaches and others working at the tournament.
Which ones? the umpire asked Djokovic, trying to figure out who was bothering him.
Djokovic replied curtly: Theres 10 people in the stands.
On Monday, Djokovic said that he had learned a big lesson after he was thrown out of the U.S. Open 10 days ago for unintentionally hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball.
Djokovic, a four-time Rome champion, next faces either Italian qualifier Marco Cecchinato or Filip Krajinovic.
Later, nine-time Rome champion Rafael Nadal was to make his return to competition after a seven-month absence against Pablo Carreo Busta.
Also in the second round, Rome resident Matteo Berrettini defeated Argentina Federico Coria 7-5, 6-1, and Marin Cilic beat sixth-seeded David Goffin 6-2, 6-2.
In the womens tournament, Montenegrin qualifier Danka Kovinic eliminated sixth-seeded Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-1.
The clay-court event, which was rescheduled from May because of the pandemic, is an important warmup for the rescheduled French Open, which starts in 11 days.

The Samsung Galaxy On Max is quite simply the best low light shooter in the sub-20K smartphone category. We wish the overall performance and battery life could be a shade better. However, if camera and especially low-light shooting is your top priority, the Samsung Galaxy On Max should definitely be in your consideration list for a 15-20K budget range.
The Samsung Galaxy On Max is the latest addition to Samsung’s ever growing online only On series. The phone is derived from the Samsung Galaxy J7 Max and keeps most of the specifications and aesthetics intact. It has a new octa-core chipset and an improved camera. Going by what the Galaxy J7 Max was able to achieve, at the beginning of this review we expected the On Max to surpass that at least. Were we right, but let us take you through our full review and find out.

As I mentioned earlier, the On Max is actually a J7 Max with some new tricks up its sleeve, dressed in the same attire. So, there is nothing different in terms of design, build quality or even the ergonomics of the two phones. The back of the phone is wrapped in metal and the top and bottom portions are plastic with a metal finish. The phone looks and feels quite premium, but like most budget smartphones, slab-like. There is one thing missing from the On Max and that is the ring flash on the rear camera, absence of which we don’t mind, as the On Max offers superb camera capabilities for its price anyway (more on that later).
The larger footprint also takes some time settling into your palms, but you won't mind adjusting your grip to reach the volume rocker over time. The home-cum-fingerprint scanner remains at the bottom centre, with the recents and back keys on either side. While there is nothing wrong with the setup, some people may find the physical home button, which you have to press down to go back to the home screen, a little unnatural compared to the rest of the navigation.
Display and UI
While the design remains largely borrowed from the J7 Max, the On Max does get a new display, posting an impressive score of 671 lux on our luminance meter. This is almost a 100 lux brighter than the J7 Max. It features decent colour reproduction as well as good viewing angles. Samsung could have provided its signature AMOLED display on the phone, but the 5.7-inch 1080p TFT display does the job well. Like the J7 Max, the On Max display also looks slightly washed out, but on day-to-day basis, that is something which a majority of people won't notice. The touch response is also accurate and smooth, and since this is a large display, videos and movie watching experience on the device is really good.
We also like the fact that the Samsung Galaxy On Max comes with the Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, which most smartphone OEMs, especially in the budget segment are ignoring. The UI though, looks pretty similar to what we have seen on previous Samsung devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the J7 Max.
It’s good that Samsung is maintaining that minimal aesthetic look, that we have grown to like, but we would also like to point out that Samsung is still duplicating apps. You still get proprietary mail and browser apps, which aren’t necessary. There are two different app stores on the phone, including Galaxy Apps and Google Play. Apps like S health, Samsung Pay Mini and secure folder, which are actually quite good are behind Samsung’s account login. So, to use them you would have make yet another account. We are not saying this is an issue with the On Max, but with all Samsung phones, and the problem could have been resolved by just allowing users to login via their pre-registered Google account.
In addition to all this Samsung also has face unlock on this phone, which is not as safe as your fingerprint scanner. Moreover, it works only if there is ample ambient light.
Performance and Battery
If you have already gone through our Galaxy J7 max review by now, then you would know its performance left us wanting. Samsung has tried to overcome the slow performance of the MediaTek Helio P20 using a newer, more powerful Helio P25 Lite. This SoC shares its octa-core setup with the P20 only, but packs a better punch. Now, the performance is still behind devices running the Qualcomm SD652, like the Coolpad Cool 1, but it does catch up to the most SD625 powered devices.
Combined with 4GB of RAM, the On Max provides smooth performance with few occasional lags. So, whether you are editing images on Snapseed or just scrolling through Facebook, the phone does the job well. Gaming performance and the graphics quality have improved and this is easily visible in synthetic benchmarks. Although, don't expect super fast app loading.
The performance however, comes at the cost of battery life. While the 3300mAh battery is well optimised to work for efficiency, the Helio P25 still drains more battery than the P20. In our PCMark battery test, the phone lasted for just 6 hours and three minutes. Using it as a daily driver, we observed that the phone would last even a heavy user an entire work day from dusk till dawn. Although, one might have to constrain their gaming sessions to let the phone survive the day. However, if you are just streaming a few episodes of your favorite show, the phone would get by just fine.
Camera
While battery life is good enough, the rear camera on the Samsung Galaxy On Max is just superb. Samsung is using a 13MP rear camera setup with f/1.7 aperture. This, combined with the new camera, captures well detailed images in all lighting conditions. While images taken during the day are amongst the best in its category, the On Max really shines in low light conditions. In low light, the f/1.7 aperture comes into the play in full force and Samsung’s new camera algorithm works overtime. However, in our tests we found that in low light the camera performs better if you switch to Pro mode, since the camera has the tendency to brighten the image, which may not be suited for all low light conditions. We also observed a slight posterization effect in some low light images, which happens due to the aggressive algorithm, that smoothes noise. This means that the On Max is really good for taking silhouettes. (Note: All images have been resized to fit)
That being said, there is a focus locking issue we find is persistent while shooting macro in low light conditions. The camera tends to shift focus to infinity and is unable lock focus on the small subject in the foreground. White balance and dynamic range remains impressive in all situations, so that is one less worry. Moreover, Samsung phones have a tendency to make images slightly warmer, which is not exactly an accurate representation, but is something many would like.
Samsung has also made some improvements to the video department, with better video stabilization and swift autofocus. The autofocus in videos struggles during the night, which is understandable. The front facing camera on the phone is also good and features a 13MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture. It takes detailed images, adding a slight warm tone it. You also get a front facing flash for low light selfies, but that is not very helpful in pitch dark conditions.
Bottomline
So, The Samsung Galaxy On Max finally evens out the playing field, something the Galaxy J7 couldn't do. It has one of the best rear cameras we have seen in the sub-20K category, especially in low light conditions. Although, we would have loved it more if the camera could have provided more consistent focus in low light conditions. We believe Samsung can fix this with a simple software update.
Samsung’s efforts to offer Android Nougat out-of-the-box are also appreciated, but we would love to see less Samsung bloatware in times to come. As for the performance and battery life, we believe both are satisfactory and will get the job done on a day-to-day basis. We don't have any complaints about the design, build and feel of the phone.
How it compares
A few weeks back when we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy J7 Max, we found its imaging performance to rival the Moto G5 Plus - a de facto recommendation in the sub-20k segment. However, the J7 Max was not a competent phone on overall terms, and that is what Samsung Galaxy On Max intends to change. While it maintains its good camera quality, it seemingly falters much lesser than the J7 Max in terms of overall performance.
With that, while the Moto G5 Plus is a much better overall smartphone, the Galaxy On Max is the better shooter of the two, by a slight margin. All this makes the Galaxy On Max one of the best phones to buy under Rs. 20,000.

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will inaugurate the historic Kosi Rail Mahasetu and 12 other rail projects in the eastern state.
The Railway Ministry in a statement said that the Prime Minister will dedicate the Kosi rail bridge through video conferencing which is a watershed moment in the history of Bihar and the entire region connecting to the northeast.
The ministry said that the 1.9 km-long project was sanctioned by the Centre during 2003-04. The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 516 crore.
It said that the bridge is of strategic importance along the India-Nepal border.
"The project was completed during the Covid-Pandemic where the migrant labour also participated in its completion," the ministry said in its statement.
According to railway officials, the completion of this project will fulfil the 86 year-old dream and the long wait of the people of the region.
The Ministry further said the Prime Minister will also flag off the Saharsa-Asanpur Kupha demo train from Supaul station.
The regular train service, once operational, would benefit Supaul, Arariya and Saharsa districts.
It would also make long distance travel to Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai easy for the people of the region.
The Railway Ministry further said the Prime Minister shall also inaugurate 12 rail projects related to passenger facilities.
These include a new railway bridge on Kiul river, two new railway lines, five electrification projects among others.

How To Make Potato Nuggets?
For the recipe, take boiled and mashed potatoes in a bowl, take some mashed left-over rice, then some bread crumbs, chilli flakes, oregano, garlic cloves, salt as per taste, butter, black pepper powder. Mix everything well, then add coriander leaves, green chillies, corn flour or arrowroot. Make a thick mixture, and cut rectangular potato nuggets using a knife. If the mixture is sticking to the knife, you can sprinkle some cornflour over it. Now, make a maida slurry, dip the rectangular bits you just cut and fry them until crispy. Your nuggets are ready to serve.

WASHINGTON: Britain said on Wednesday that Russia had a case to answer over the poisoning of Alexei Navalny as it was almost certain that Russian intelligence services carried out the attack with a Soviet-developed chemical weapon known as Novichok.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, speaking in Washington alongside Mike Pompeo, said he welcomed Navalny’s recovery but that Russia had a case to answer as the use of a chemical weapon was unacceptable.
“The Russian government is duty bound to explain what happened to Mr Navalny,” Raab said.
“From the UK’s point of view, very difficult to see any plausible alternative explanation to this being carried out by the Russian intelligence services, but certainly the Russian government has a case to answer,” Raab said.
Navalny shared a photograph from a Berlin hospital on Tuesday, sitting up in bed and surrounded by his family, and said he could now breathe independently after being poisoned in Siberia last month.
The leading opponent of President Vladimir Putin, fell violently sick while campaigning on Aug. 20 and was airlifted to Berlin.
Germany says laboratory tests in three countries have determined he was poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent, and Western governments have demanded an explanation from Russia.
Moscow has called the accusations groundless.

File image of Umar Khalid.
Days after the arrest of former JNU student Umar Khalid by the Delhi Police in a case relating to the Delhi riots, several activists have shared a pre-recorded video with the message "they are trying to scare us, but you as well".
Khalid was arrested under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on Sunday. On Monday, a court sent him to 10-day police custody.
In the video he begins, "If you are watching this video, it means that I have been arrested."
He goes on to allege that in the Delhi Police's investigation of the Delhi riots, they are not arresting those responsible those who openly carried out the riots and instigated others, in the presence of the police. "Those who instigated in front of the TV camera. We all watched it happen. The Delhi Police has not even summoned such people for interrogation, let alone file an FIR against them," he says.
On the other hand, critics of the government, and those protesting the CAA, NRC and other policies of the government, are being framed in false cases, even though there is no evidence against such people, he alleges.

"Twenty to thirty seconds from my 17-minute speech were made viral, and it was claimed that I conspired and instigated people to come to the streets and riot. Now that I have uploaded the entire 17 minute-long speech, in which I spoke about Gandhi's message of satya and ahimsa, not riots and violence, they have started broadcasting even more false claims by me on TV and in the media," he says.
He further claims that people are being forced to give statements against him, and that police is intimidating them into make such statements. "They are trying to jail all critics of the government," he adds.
"What is my fault? Is it wrong that I say that this country is as much mine as it it yours? Everyone in India, irrespective of religion or language, are equal in the eyes of the law and before the Constitution. But today, there is an attempt to change this, to divide us," he says.
"They are trying to scare us, as well as you. They are silencing us and putting us behind bars, but are also trying to silence you with lies, and scare you," he is heard saying.
Finally, Khalid makes an to the viewers to not be scared, to raise their voice against this injustice and demand the release of those who have been framed with false charges.

Delhi Police had named CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh, Delhi University professor and activist Apoorvanand, and documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy as co-conspirators in the riots last week.
Earlier, JNU student Sharjeel Imam, Pinjra Tod members Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, Jamia Millia Islamia students Asif Iqbal Tanha and Gulfisha Khatoon, Jamia Coordination Committee members Safoora Zargar and Meeran Haider, President of Jamia Alumni Association Shifa-Ur-Rehman, suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain and former Congress Councillor Ishrat Jahan were booked under UAPA in the riots case.

FILE - In this Jan. 11, 2012 file photo, buyers and industry affiliates pass by the Kodak exhibit at the 2012 International CES trade show in Las Vegas. An independent legal review has determined that there were several flaws in how Eastman Kodak gave stock option grants to its CEO prior to the once formidable photography company being awarded a loan from the Trump administration. (AP Photo/Julie Jacobson, File)
Shares of Kodak are sharply higher after an independent legal review found that while there were flaws in how Eastman Kodak issued stock option grants to its CEO just before revealing a major development that sent its stock soaring, no illegality was involved.
In late July the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation signed a letter of intent to potentially give the photography pioneer a $765 million loan to help pay for factory changes needed to make pharmaceutical ingredients in short supply in the U.S.
Shares surged from around $8 to more than $33 each in a day, at one point soaring as high as $60, a price that has not been seen for years at Kodak whose fortunes faded with the arrival of digital photography.
The grants to the companies CEO, as well has a huge donation of company stock by a board member around the same time to an affiliated charity, caught the eye of both shareholders and regulators, as did highly active trading in Kodak shares the day before the announcement.
White house trade advisor Peter Navarro, who played a part in the process, blasted the company.
Based on what Im seeing, what happened at Kodak was probably the dumbest decisions made by executives in corporate history, Navarro said on CNBC.
The DFC put any consideration of a loan on hold until the allegations of insider trading are cleared.
Those investigations are ongoing. The DFC would not comment on Kodak’s internal investigation Wednesday.
The review by the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, commissioned by a special Kodak board committee, found that Kodak’s general counsel failed to warn the company’s board that the timing of the grants for Executive Chairman and CEO Jim Continenza could look bad regardless of whether the grants were determined to be legal. Continenza and other senior Kodak executives were awarded the grants the day before the potential loan was announced.
Regarding insider trading allegations, the review determined that Continenza and board member Phillipe Katz properly complied with Kodak’s insider trading policies. The approval of the trades was appropriate, it found, because the loan application process was at a highly uncertain stage at that time they were cleared.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld also said it did not appear that a donation of 3 million Kodak shares by board member George Karfunkel to an affiliated charity at the same time, and suddenly worth a lot more money, violated federal securities laws.
A special committee formed by Kodak said the company should reconsider the makeup of its board, particularly given the change in what type of entities now own company stock.
Kodak said late Tuesday that it planned to review and implement the committees recommended measures and that it continues to assist with all other inquiries on these matters.
Kodak is committed to the highest levels of governance and transparency, and it is clear from the reviews findings that we need to take action to strengthen our practices, policies, and procedures,” Continenza said in a statement.
Shares of Eastman Kodak Co., based in Rochester, New York, jumped about 60% in early trading.

Avni Doshi has previously spoken about the long journey to her first novel.
Dubai-based Indian-origin author Avni Doshi is among the six authors shortlisted for the 2020 Booker Prize for her debut novel 'Burnt Sugar''.
The shortlist was unveiled virtually in London on Tuesday after judges re-evaluated the 13 longlisted novels published in the UK or Ireland between October 2019 and September 2020 to whittle down the shortlist for the GBP 50,000 literary prize in November.
"This utterly compelling read examines a complex and unusual mother-daughter relationship with honest, unflinching realism - sometimes emotionally wrenching but also cathartic, written with poignancy and memorability," the judges said of Avni Doshi's entry.
Avni Doshi, born in the US and now living in Dubai, has previously spoken about the long journey to her first novel, which was released in India last year as 'Girl in White Cotton' and for its UK release in July.
The rest of the shortlist includes Diane Cook for "The New Wilderness", Zimbabwean writer Tsitsi Dangarembga for the third novel in her trilogy - 'This Mournable Body', Maaza Mengiste for "The Shadow King", Douglas Stuart for "Shuggie Bain'' and Brandon Taylor for "Real Life''.
Literary heavyweight and former double Booker winner Hilary Mantel, in the running for her final installment in her series set in King Henry VIII''s 16th century England ''The Mirror and the Light'', failed to make the shortlist cut.
"The shortlist of six came together unexpectedly, voices and characters resonating with us all even when very different. We are delighted to help disseminate these chronicles of creative humanity to a global audience," said Margaret Busby, literary critic and chair of the 2020 judges.
"As judges, we read 162 books, many of them conveying important, sometimes uncannily similar and prescient messages," she said.
"The best novels often prepare our societies for valuable conversations, and not just about the inequities and dilemmas of the world - whether in connection with climate change, forgotten communities, old age, racism, or revolution when necessary - but also about how magnificent the interior life of the mind, imagination and spirit is, in spite of circumstance," she said.
The organisers said that readers of the chosen books will travel to India to unpick an unsettling mother-daughter relationship redefined by dementia with Avni Doshi's entry; explore the tender story of a mother's battle to save her daughter in a dystopian city made inhospitable by the climate crisis; witness a woman confronting the realities of life and morality in Zimbabwe as she descends into poverty.
They will uncover the extraordinary tales of the African women who went to war during Italy's 1935 invasion of Ethiopia; find humanity and humour in the harsh realities experienced by a marginalised family in 1980s Glasgow; and question what 'real-life'' is in a fresh take on the campus novel, which offers a nuanced account of racism and homophobia.
Gaby Wood, Literary Director of the Booker Prize Foundation, said: "Every year, judging the Booker Prize is an act of discovery. What's out there, how can we widen the net, how do these books seem when compared to one another, how do they fare when re-read? These are questions judges always ask themselves, and each other.
"This year there has perhaps been more discovery than usual, both in the sense that debut novels are in the majority and due to the fact that the judges themselves were surprised to find that was the case. Why were they surprised? They were focussing on the books," she said.
"No one wins the Booker Prize because of who they are. A book wins because of what it does. What has transpired is a testament to the judges'' faith in - among other things - first fictions: they have found these writers to have much to say, and found them to have said it in a way that became even richer on second reading."
The Booker Prize for Fiction is open to writers of any nationality, writing in English and published in the UK or Ireland. The shortlist of six books will be announced on September 15, with each shortlisted authors receiving 2,500 pounds and a specially bound edition of their book at the prize ceremony scheduled for November.
The 2019 Booker Prize for Fiction was won jointly by "The Testaments'' by Margaret Atwood and 'Girl, Woman, Other' by Bernardine Evaristo. First awarded in 1969, the Booker Prize is recognised as the leading prize for literary fiction written in English.
The rules of the prize were changed at the end of 2013 to embrace the English language "in all its vigour, its vitality, its versatility and its glory", opening it up to writers beyond the UK and Commonwealth, providing they were writing novels in English and published in the UK.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 offers decent value in most areas but begs to be upgraded with double the RAM and a solid-state drive right at the time of purchase.
Last year, Lenovo's line-up of IdeaPad laptops was spread across the price band quite evenly but the naming was a touch confusing. In the budget and mid-range segments, we had the IdeaPad 330 and IdeaPad 330S, two very similar-sounding model names but different in construction, quality, and performance. In the upper mid-range segment was the IdeaPad 530S, which we noted in our review had noteworthy performance combined with classy design. What about this year?
In this year's ‘40’ series of IdeaPad ‘S’ models, we have the IdeaPad S540, which is, in a manner of speaking, a successor to the IdeaPad 530S. Sitting just below it is the IdeaPad S340, which, surprisingly, comes with features like a privacy shutter for the webcam. On the bottom rung, we have the IdeaPad S145: a proper 15.6-inch budget model that starts at Rs 26,990, with either an Intel or AMD chip fitted to it. Let's take a closer look.
Though the new IdeaPad S145 is offered with up to an AMD Ryzen 5 3000-series processor on Lenovo's official website, our review unit came with an Intel Core i3-8145U CPU (the Whiskey Lake refresh from last year) with 4GB of RAM. Storage was taken care of by a WD Blue 1TB hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm. Needless to say, there was no discrete graphics card on board; only the Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU. According to the hardware maintenance manual published by Lenovo, the 4GB of onboard memory can be expanded up to a maximum of 12GB by adding an 8GB DDR4 RAM chip.
Intel 8th Gen Core i3 CPU paired with a platry 4GB RAM and slow hard drive
The review unit fared decently on our CPU and GPU benchmarks. At least its scores were better than those of the IdeaPad 330 and IdeaPad 330S from last year. On PCMark 8’s Conventional Creative test, the review unit bagged 2805 points, which is nearly three times over the IdeaPad 330’s score and nearly 300 points more than the IdeaPad 330S’ on the same test. The scores were similar on PCMark 8’s Conventional Home and Work tests. On 3DMark’s Fire Strike and Sky Diver, the review unit picked up 796 and 3385 points respectively.
Everyday performance of the IdeaPad S145 review unit was woefully bad, but I can confidently chalk that up to the low RAM and sluggish hard drive inside. The laptop took well over two minutes to cold-boot to the Windows 10 desktop and be fully ready for use. The Start menu took over six seconds to pop up on an average. There were constant stutters and window freezes while using everyday applications like Chrome, File Explorer, and OneNote one at a time. Maximising a window would sometimes take up to five seconds to happen, and the contents inside would get stretched and distorted in the process. Even a single YouTube video in the foreground would often stutter and stammer.
In summary, the IdeaPad S145 is an unbearably sluggish device if you use it with the bundled 4GB RAM and hard drive. I highly recommend you purchase a variant with 8GB RAM minimum and a solid-state drive if you plan to use your laptop for everyday work. If you’ve already bought it in the same configuration as our review unit, consider upping the RAM to 8GB and replacing the hard drive with a SATA III solid-state drive. A 256GB unit shouldn’t cost you over Rs 5,000. These two upgrades will go a long way in improving the everyday performance of this laptop.
On our standard battery benchmark test, the IdeaPad S145 review unit scored 3 hours, 16 minutes, which is approximately a forty-minute advantage over the scores bagged by the IdeaPad 330 and IdeaPad 330S from last year. On everyday tests, where the screen is set to 70 percent brightness and Bluetooth + Wi-Fi are enabled, the laptop lost 42 percent of its charge in roughly two hours. Charging from 36 percent to about 95 took roughly one and a half hours. During the tests, multiple instances of Chrome, OneNote, File Explorer were open alongside WhatsApp for PC. In summary, the 35Wh dual-cell lithium-ion polymer battery inside the IdeaPad S145 appears to be an ideal companion for fairly long stretches of continuous operation away from the wall socket. Expect up to three and a half hours of continuous use on this laptop.
The IdeaPad S145 features a 15.6-inch non-touchscreen display with Full HD resolution and 220 nits of maximum brightness. According to Lenovo, the screen is capable of covering 45 percent of an unspecified colour space (though we think its sRGB). In reality, colours on the screen appear totally washed out, leaving the white of the backlight to burn through brightly. In addition, the matte finish on the screen creates a grainy effect on the screen, thereby making the viewing experience worse. Tilting the display down by even a few degrees renders text on the screen unreadable. In summary, the IdeaPad S145’s display isn’t a great one for image/video-focussed work. That said, it’ll do the job for the occasional spreadsheet or document.
Full HD display but colours are weak
The IdeaPad S145 sports two tiny speakers on its lower front lip, which deliver flat, uninspiring sound despite the Dolby badging (and the bundled Dolby Audio app). The maximum volume is insufficient even for the occasional two-minute YouTube watch and the sound is mostly flat across lows, mids, and highs, leaving the pair best used for Windows error sounds and message notifications. You’re better off investing in a pair of headphones or portable wired speakers if you want clear audio.
Weak sound as well
The IdeaPad S145 has most of its ports on the left side of its body, which should prove convenient for right-handed mouse users. On the left, there’s a proprietary round-pin power port for charging, a full-size HDMI port, a USB-A 2.0 port, and a couple of USB-A 3.1 ports. On the right side, all we see are a full-size SD Card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack for headsets. Being a budget model, the laptop skips the increasingly ubiquitous USB-C port. It also does not have a fingerprint scanner. Images from the VGA webcam are understandably grainy and pixelated.
Ports on the left...
...and ports on the right...
The IdeaPad S145’s keyboard is not particularly comfortable—but it’s not particularly uncomfortable either. The entire keyboard island and individual keycaps are mildly convex in shape in that they bulge upwards at the centre. This is the exact opposite of what laptop manufacturers usually do to offer a more comfortable typing experience, i.e., create a cupped design (for easier key identification). In the IdeaPad S145’s case, this is done presumably to maintain rigidity across the keyboard island. On the plus side, the numpad section includes dedicated keys for media playback, i.e., play/pause, next track, and previous track. If anything, I wish the keys were backlit but that’s a bit much to ask for from a laptop of this price range.
Dedicated media playback keys above numpad
Because it’s not a Windows 10-recognised precision unit, the touchpad is sluggish and uneven in tracking the movement of the pointer across the screen. The acceleration of the pointer too varies with the direction of the fingertip movement, making for an unpleasant touchpad experience. A triple-tap opens up Windows Search by default and Windows Settings only lets you adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad unit. Surprisingly, the click buttons under the touchpad’s plain plastic surface have great feel. All things considered, you’re better off getting yourself a wired or wireless USB mouse.
Touchpad is non-precision unit but click works well
The IdeaPad S145 uses plastic in its construction in a manner that’s similar to last year’s IdeaPad 330. The laptop’s top cover and keyboard island have a glossy plasticky finish with a mild brushed design in plain silver. Not only does this lend the device a toyish look, but it also makes it less grippy in the user’s hands, especially while taking it out of a backpack in a hurry. Luckily, the keycaps, hinges, base panel, and screen bezels use a darker shade for some contrast and thus improved visual appeal.
Glossy plastic top cover could do with a matte finish for more class and grip
The Lenovo badge on the top cover of the IdeaPad S145 is a refreshed single-sticker unit that sits flush with the lid's surface. Opening and closing the lid from one side reveals quite a bit of flex on the lid's surface. The same is observed on the keyboard island when the keys are tapped on hard. On the plus side, the laptop's lid opens out to a maximum of 180 degrees (like the more expensive ThinkPad range). What's more, the laptop's power brick is now integrated with the wall plug, making the entire charging kit more portable and appealing. All things considered, the IdeaPad S145 looks and feels decent for a laptop of its price range although a matte finish all around would have been better appreciated for reasons of grip and overall appearance.
Display folds all the way back
The Lenovo IdeaPad S145, in its current configuration of an Intel 8th Gen Core i3 CPU, 4GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive, is not terrible value for its Amazon.in-listed price of Rs 32,990. But you still shouldn't buy it unless you intend to use it for extremely basic computing (like checking email occasionally or watching offline videos). It's unfit for multitasking and serious web use. We recommend you upgrade the RAM to 8GB and replace its sluggish hard drive with a solid-state drive before using it for serious work. Alternatively, pick a variant of the Lenovo IdeaPad S145 with those upgrades at the time of purchase.

"Lovecraft Country" Episode 6 will reveal a backstory on Atticus' time in the war in South Korea where he met the mysterious Ji-ah.
Next Sunday's episode of the HBO series will bring viewers to Daegu, a city in North Gyeongsang Province. As revealed by the title, "Meet Me in Daegu," the story will reveal what happened to Atticus during the war and how his relationship with Ji-ah (Jamie Chung) developed.
The teaser trailer for "Lovecraft Country" Episode 6 showed that Atticus and Ji-ah, a nurse, met at an infirmary where he is being treated for his battle wounds. He asked her to read from the pages of the book "The Count of Monte Cristo" and it seems their relationship blossomed from there.
The scene flashes back to the time they spent together just being happy with each other. But then the events take a tragic turn when the soldiers decide to punish the South Korean women for reasons still unknown. Ji-Ah is among those taken away but she survived while the others died.
"After years of oppression, unfair oppression, sweet revenge," Atticus' voice plays in the background as the scene focuses on Ji-ah seemingly plotting her revenge against the soldiers. She blows up a theatre and appears with bloodied hands.
The teaser trailer for "Lovecraft Country" Episode 6 ends with Ji-ah lying down with a worm-like creature creeping in her ear. Could this be the same wriggly creature that came out of a cow's birth canal as seen in Episode 1?
Jamie Chung front and centre.

The next episode will answer why Atticus looked alarmed after he deciphered the code about his name which spelled "Die." Ji-ah had warned him about going back home to Chicago. Episode 5 ended with a frantic Atticus calling her overseas so he could ask her how she knew about what would happen to him.
"Lovecraft Country" just gets weirder and scarier yet fun and interesting at the same time. As the series progresses, more secrets come out including that unsettling revelation in Episode 5 that William and Christina are one and the same. She used the same magic potion that Ruby took to look like a white woman named Hillary Davenport. Episode 6 will also answer how Ruby handles this knowledge.
MINISTER of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne said TT is preparing an inspection team to visit the vessel Nabarima to confirm if the sinking ship poses any threat. The sinking tanker, which is permanently docked between Venezuela and TT has nearly 1.1 million barrels of crude oil stored in it.
Reports from international media outlets said the extent of the damage vessel is uncertain. On Tuesday, Browne told Newsday that the government has been in constant communication with the Venezuelan authorities who have indicated that the vessel is secured.
He said, “At present the TT government has accepted an offer from Venezuela to send an inspection team and we are working on the details of that, so that we can be satisfied with the representations made by Venezuela that the vessel has been properly repaired and poses no danger to the environment.”
Browne was unable to indicate when the TT inspection team will be ready to go to Venezuela. But, fear and anxiety looms over the heads of fishermen from Carli Bay to Cedros who claimed they were yet to receive an update from the government on the status of the sinking Nabarima vessel in the Gulf of Paria.
Cedros councillor Shankar Teelucksingh who spoke on behalf of the fishermen told Newsday on Tuesday that the issue was raise several week ago, but the authorities seemed unconcerned.
He said, “Our hands are tied but the Prime Minister and the Ministers of National Security and Energy have very close links and cordial relationships with the Maduro government. And well, if the Maduro government is telling them they have it under control, then okay.
“But we do not trust that. All of TT should be concerned because it is an environment hazard that threatens livelihoods, in an already tough economic situation.”
Teelucksingh believed it was environmental disaster waiting to happen and has accused the government of dragging their feet on the matter. He explained that it was out of his MP’s hands at this point because of the involvement of international territories.
He said, “We are not hearing anything from the authorities who are our watchdogs. Their lips are sealed, and they are being irresponsible.
“We are voicing our concerns to save our communities, but the PM and the minister of national security tend to bump their gums and not address the recommendations.”
Teelucksingh said the fishermen were not surprised by the lack of interest by the authorities, since they suffered an oil spill last month and were yet to receive and redress.
“We are still awaiting the fingerprint on that oil spill which usually takes about seven days, but here we are today with no communication on the matter. That spill has cause 38 vessels to dock and left 38 families struggling to meet their needs in an already hard economy,” he noted.
Activist group Fishermen and Friends of the Sea (FFOS) has been lobbying for intervention through co-operation from international organisations. FFOS general secretary Gary Aboud said he wrote to the local authorities, the US Ambassador and the European Union for help, but to date his letters have gone unanswered.
The row over the three Central agriculture bills in Punjab got intense today with both ruling Congress and the opposition Akali Dal trying to placate the angry farmers. While Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Governor VP Singh Badnore, the Akalis made a beeline for BJP chief JP Nadda.
Amarinder Singh submitted a memorandum to the Governor, seeking his intervention to stop the laws, which farmers say will hurt their interests.
Mr Singh told the Governor that any move to tinker with the current procurement system amid the coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis, may increase the unrest among the farmers. He also said it "may not be conducive for the peace and development of the region, which faces serious challenges of public order due to a live international border".
He also termed the Shiromani Akali Dal's sudden U-turn over the laws, calling it a "farce". In face of the wrath of farmers, the Akalis claimed yesterday that they had not been consulted about the ordinances and the corresponding bills.
Farmers across Punjab and Haryana have been on the warpath against the ordinances brought on June 5 -- The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020.
On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha passed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which seeks to deregulate food items, including cereals, pulses and onion.
The farmers have warned that any MP from the state who support these bills will not be allowed to enter the villages.
