SALIGAO: The Mapusa Merchants’ Association has urged the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to restart the weekly Friday market by ensuring social distancing norms and proper sanitisation of the market.
A meeting of the MMC town vending committee was held on Tuesday, which was attended by the municipality’s chief officer Kabir Shirgaonkar and merchants’ association president Ashish Shirodkar.
It was suggested that vendors featuring in the 2014 list should be provided with a licence after a proper survey is carried out, and they could also be provided with identity cards or certificates.
The chief officer agreed to Shirodkar’s suggestion that vendors at the vegetable or fish markets who don’t have a permanent place leased out to them should be considered as vendors, and assured to seek legal opinion on the matter.
