Vietnam set to restart international flights this week

Published on : Wednesday, September 16, 2020

Vietnam has finally decided to restart passenger flights and will resume its international services by connecting the country to six Asian cities starting Friday, September 18. The services are resuming after months of shutdown observed to curb the COVID-19 pandemic with the aim to restarting an economy battered by the coronavirus outbreak by boosting business activity.

The government recently announced that foreigners travelling for business or study, along with Vietnamese nationals and their family members, will be allowed in from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, South Korea’s Seoul, Japan’s Tokyo, and Taipei. It was also informed that flights to and from Cambodia’s Phnom Penh and Laos’ Vientiane would start next week.

As of now, there will be two round trips each week between Vietnam and the selected destinations. All travellers would be required to produce negative COVID-19 test results before boarding their flight and again upon landing. People staying in Vietnam for fewer than 14 days will not need to be quarantined but have to be tested. They will also have to wear a mask and refrain from shaking hands.

Other individuals would be required to undergo quarantine at an army-run facility or government-designated hotels but if their second test comes back negative, they could be given a shorter stint of five days rather than 14. Travellers will have to pay for all quarantine and testing expenses. Those who transit through the six cities from a different destination can also enter Vietnam but will need to be tested and undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Sushant Singh Rajput's Lonavala farmhouse manager Raees recently revealed that Sara Ali Khan and Rhea Chakraborty partied frequently at the scenic place along with the actor. He also added that smoking papers were ordered for those occasions. He further added that while it was Sara who would accompany SSR initially along with his core team, Rhea, too, became a frequent visitor as the 'Kedarnath' actress' visits gradually lessened. He said that Rhea's birthday was celebrated last year at the farmhouse with her family and Sushant. Meanwhile, according to a report, a local boatman reportedly told NCB that 'Ganja' and 'liquor' were common in house parties held at SSR's place. Maharashtra revenue minister and state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat said onion prices have collapsed due to the ban on export, and asserted that his party will fight against this "injustice" meted out to farmers.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday termed the central government as"anti-farmer" after it banned the export of onions. Terming the decision as wrong, the NCP leader accused the Centre of committing "great sin" of pushing farmers, who were already hit hard by COVID-19, into deeper trouble.

Maharashtra revenue minister and state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat said onion prices have collapsed due to the ban on export, and asserted that his party will fight against this "injustice" meted out to farmers. The central government on Monday banned the export of all varieties of onions with immediate effect to increase availability and curb prices of the commodity in the domestic market.

"The Centre banned onion export at a time when cultivators were getting good prices for their produce. It is absolutely wrong. It is obvious that the Centre is anti-farmer," Pawar alleged. He also referred to NCP president Sharad Pawar raising concerns over the decision before Union Commerce minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday, seeking its reversal.

"Onion growers are already in trouble due to COVID-19. Add to that, the Centre has committed this maha paap (great sin) of pushing the farmers into deeper trouble by banning export," the deputy chief minister said while speaking at a programme in the NCP's head office here.

Maharashtra revenue minister Thorat also criticised the Centre's decision and said onion prices have collapsed by 700 to Rs 800 per tonne due to the ban on export. "Farmers in the state are tackling problems arising out of cyclone and floods, and the state government is doing all it can to help them. But, the Centre is not cooperating," he said.

Earlier, the Centre allowed milk powder import when there were lakhs of tonnes of milk powder in the country. Due to this, milk prices came down, Thorat said. "Now, when there is scope for farmers to earn some money due to onion export, the central government has stopped. We will fight this injustice against farmers," he said.
