A founding member of Australian rock band Skyhooks has died after falling off a ladder.

Peter Starkie, the original guitarist of the 1970s glam rock band, died on Sunday, he was aged 72.

His brother Bob, who replaced him in the band, shared the tragic news on Facebook, saying his brother had died in 'one of those stupid ladder accidents'.

In his heartfelt tribute, he opened up about admiring his brother who was a 'fabulous guitarist'.

'Quite honestly this is just a f***ing tragedy especially for Dianna and the girls. (and in lockdown!)

'So one and all, as my mother would say, ''count your Blessing''.' 

Skyhooks shot to fame in the mid-70s with hits such as Horror Movie, Ego is Not A Dirty Word, All My Friends Are Getting Married and Women In Uniform.

The band stopped regularly playing when Strachan died in a helicopter accident at Noosa in 2001.
