Lenovo K6 Power detailed review

The budget segment has always been fiercely competitive, and massively overcrowded. The Lenovo K6 Power is somewhat late to the party, but it may have a better shot at the competition than the company’s earlier phones. In our reviews, we found the Xiaomi Redmi 3s and Redmi Note 3 to be well ahead of Lenovo’s Vibe K5 and K5 Plus. The K6 Power is an upgrade from those. But is that enough to qualify as the best budget phone? Let’s find out.

Build and Design

As far as design is concerned, this seems like a vox populi approach at the moment. The Lenovo K6 Power has the same design as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or the Meizu M3 Note etc. In fact, given its smaller footprint, it’s pretty much a replica of the Meizu M3s or Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime. Imagine the same designs, with different camera placement and you have hit the K6 Power’s design spot on.

In terms of design or even build quality, the K6 Power brings absolutely nothing new. It has a metal back, the camera module and fingerprint scanner have the same central location and there are no-onscreen navigation keys. There are subtle changes to the power and volume keys, and speaker placement, but that’s about it. You would be forgiven for mistaking this for literally any other budget phone in the market today.

That, however, means that like those other phones, the K6 Power is also well built and ergonomic, and can withstand a knock or two (we dropped the phone once). The smaller footprint and the rounded edges make it comfortable to hold. Perhaps 2.5D glass on top would have added to the design.

Display and UI

The Lenovo K6 Power is equipped with a 1080p panel. That’s an upgrade to the usual specs, since 5-inch panels are often limited to 720p resolution. Phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, have 5.5-inch 1080p panels.

The ppi count lies at 441ppi. While resolution is indeed better than most budget phones, the contrast ratios and colour saturation of the 720p panel on the Redmi 3S Prime are better. The display on the Redmi is also warmer, which looks pleasant.

Unlike Meizu, Xiaomi or other Chinese vendors, the K6 Power offers an app drawer. There are not a lot of preinstalled applications and the UI itself feels light. In fact, Vibe UI has been light recently. While we can’t be sure whether Lenovo will eventually bring a completely stock UI, like Motorola, it seems to be headed that way.

That said, there are still certain UI features, which add to overall experience of the phone. You can lock apps and click pictures by touching the fingerprint scanner at the back. For privacy, you also get the secure zone functionality, which sets up a secure instance of the whole phone, locked by password. You can put separate apps and contacts in this zone, but you can share them between instances as well.

Performance

The Lenovo K6 Power with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM performs very similar to the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime. App load times and multitasking performance are better than last generation K-series phones. However, this one is still slower than a 16GB Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The synthetic benchmarks represent this pretty accurately.

The K6 Power is a hair faster than the Redmi 3s Prime, on benchmarks, but real world performance is more or less the same. It's only when you tax the phone with heavier games such as Asphalt 8, that you find stutters and occasional lags. For a budget phone, it’s quite acceptable, being surpassed only by the Redmi Note 3.

Audio Quality

For music lovers, the audio output of the device is good with headphones, but not very loud without them. You get an equaliser with the Dolby Atmos enhancements, and turning it off lowers the volume a bit. In general, it’s good audio quality for a budget smartphone, and music lover’s will like it, with respect to the asking price.

Battery

The K6 Power has a 4000mAh battery, which is an important feature. Lenovo claims about 13-14 hours of battery life, but we got about 12 hours on a single charge. This included music streaming, a lot of youtube, half a dozen calls and some light photography. We also used the phone for 30-minute navigation session and the battery drop was just 5 percent.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime on other hand manages a good 16 hours. So, the K6 Power isn’t the best for the budget, but just about satisfactory. If you’re not a power user or use the battery saver modes aggressively, the phone will last you a full 24 hours easily.

Camera

The K6 Power shines with its good rear camera. Colour reproduction is good, and it offers better details than most sub-10K phones. Low light image quality on the other hand is average and at par with that of Redmi 3S Prime. Images lose details, exhibiting quite a bit of noise. The only phone, which has a better camera than this is the Redmi Note 3. Our budget comparison using the Lenovo K6 Power should give you a better idea of the camera quality.

Lenovo has also incorporated a manual mode in the camera app, taken from the Vibe Shot. This makes the camera experience better for photography enthusiasts.

The front facing 8MP camera is also quite good and definitely better than almost every budget phone available today. Images taken are sharp, detailed and boast decent contrast.

Bottomline

Good performance, decent battery, reliable build and good camera, those are the reasons to consider the Lenovo K6 Power. It is a really good budget smartphone. Barring the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 16GB, there’s no other phone that surpasses the K6 Power in any way. Given that you get an extra gig of RAM with this one and double the storage, this is a very good smartphone to buy.

Sushant Case: Questioning of Shruti Modi, Jaya Saha Called Off After SIT Member Tests Corona Positive

In the drugs angle related to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has summoned the late actor's former manager Shruti Modi and talent manager Jaya Saha for questioning today. However, their questioning was called off for today after one of the team members of SIT has been tested positive for corona. Accordingly, Shruti Modi has been sent back.

Both Shruti and Jaya were asked to appear before the drug law enforcement agency at its Mumbai office. They were to be questioned about the drug use and delivery to Sushant and his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested last Tuesday, and if they were aware of this.

The latest development comes in the wake of the arrest of over 15 people in connection with the case, including Rhea, her brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant's house manager Samuel Miranda and several others. The NCB registered a case on the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the alleged drug chats of Showik, Miranda and several others came to the fore.

Sushant was found hanging in his Mont Blanc apartment on June 14. Besides the CBI and the ED, the NCB is the third agency to probe the death case of Sushant. Meanwhile, in a significant development, the names of Bollywood celebrities like Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh and Simone Khambatta have apparently emerged in the NCB probe into the drugs angle surrounding Sushant's death, official sources said on Monday. The NCB is also set to issue a summon to them in the coming days for questioning.

Tirupati Temple Received 50 Crore But Cannot Use it As Devotees Continue to Offer Demonetised Notes

A deevotee at the Tirumala temple.(News18)

The TTD chairman said that the temple could not stop the devotees from offering old notes as it is linked with their faith and religious sentiments.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 12:04 PM IST

The world famous Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh is awash with Rs 50 crore demonetised cash offerings, which it continued to receive from the devotees, but could not utilise.

"Though the Central government had demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes on November 8, 2016, devotees continued to offer demonetised notes," said a TTD official.

As a result, the temple in southern Andhra Pradesh received 1.8 lakh notes of Rs 1,000, amounting to Rs 18 crore, and 6.34 lakh notes of Rs 500, amounting to Rs 31.7 crore. All the offered demonetised notes amounted to a total of around Rs 50 crore.

Though replete with old cash, Tirupati, one of the richest temples in the world, could not make use of it as scrapped notes have stopped being a legal tender for four years already.

Unable to monetise the huge amount of delegitimised cash, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman, Y.V. Subba Reddy, has requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to enable the temple to deposit the old money with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) or any other commercial one to monetise that amount.

"Once monetised, TTD will use it to fund several spiritual and welfare activities," the official said.

Regarding the old notes, TTD had already written to the Union Finance Ministry and the RBI in 2017 but did not receive a favourable response.

"As this issue is linked to the faith and sentiments of the devotees, Reddy requested Sitharaman for a favourable outcome, enabling the temple to deposit the money with the RBI or any other bank," the official said.

Reddy has asked the Finance Minister for favourable instructions in that direction.

The TTD chairman said that the temple could not stop the devotees from offering old notes as it is linked with their faith and religious sentiments.

TTD is a conglomeration of 12 temples and their sub-shrines. It employs 14,000 people. Spread over 16.2 acres, the main Tirumala temple is dedicated to Lord Sri Venkateswara, also known as Srinivasa, Balaji and Venkatachalapati.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 10:48 AM IST

PARIS: A Paris court will deliver its verdict Wednesday in the corruption trial of Lamine Diack, the one-time president of the international track and field federation who oversaw the glory years of Usain Bolt and, according to prosecutors, took millions of dollars for himself, along with his son.

At Diack’s trial in June, prosecutors requested a four-year jail term and a fine of 500,000 euros ($595,000). The 87-year-old former IAAF president was tried on corruption, money laundering and breach of trust charges.

The verdict will also cover others who faced charges at the six-day hearing, including his son, Papa Massata Diack. The former IAAF marketing consultant lives in Senegal and was tried in his absence, also on corruption, money laundering and breach of trust charges.

Ahead of the verdict, Papa Massata Diack this week called the charges the biggest lie in the history of world sport. He said he earned $10 million from his IAAF consultancy work but all legally. He said he skipped the trial because “to submit to French justice is to put myself at the disposal of my enemies. Senegal refused to extradite him.

The trial in June accused Diack of turning tracks governing body into a hotbed of malfeasance. Diack led the federation from 1999-2015, a time that included the thrilling era of Bolt.

Prosecutors said the Diacks siphoned off revenue for themselves and lined bank accounts with hush-money allegedly extorted from athletes who coughed up six-figure sums to avoid being sanctioned for doping. The IAAF’s reputation as a leader in fighting doping was trashed by the crooked system, dubbed full protection, of athletes paying to keep competing.

With the 2012 London Olympics looming, Diack feared that punishing a large group of athletes together for doping could hurt negotiations with a Russian sponsor, the court was told. Diack acknowledged he intervened to quietly slow down the sanctioning process, but denied knowledge of payoffs. Prosecutors said the Diacks squeezed athletes for 3.45 million euros ($4 million).

Lamine Diack’s position and longevity made him an important figure in Olympic sports. He jetted around the world and rubbed shoulders with VIPs. His influence also opened doors for his son.

Papa Massata Diack had expensive tastes: Investigators found that he bought watches and other luxury goods worth 1.7 million euros ($2 million) from a store off the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Prosecutors have sought a five-year prison sentence for the younger Diack.

Verdict

The Sony X95G is a fantastic premium LED LCD TV and a worthy consideration for those that don't want to get on the OLED bandwagon or for those who will consume content in a relatively bright room. It has a bright rich display for consuming content and playing games. The UI is fluid, features plentiful and audio is acceptable for TV viewing. Where it lacks is missing out on the ‘X-Wide Angle’ technology found on its larger siblings and limited HDMI 2.1 functionality.

Sony X95G 55 inch 4K LED Smart TV detailed review

Sony as a brand has had a lot of ups and downs with its TV portfolio over the past decade, but in the past two years, the company has started streamlining the models it launches, hopped onto the OLED bandwagon and upped its picture processing game with the X1 Ultimate chip. Needless to say that Sony TVs commanding a premium price come with premium quality. However, over the past 2 years of reviewing TVs, a lot of budget offerings have emerged in the market offering 4K HDR and some smart capabilities making it hard to recommend a premium TV. With a budget of about 60 to 80k one can get a fantastic LED LCD TV. So does the Sony X95G have what it takes to grab attention? Let's find out.

Specs at a glance

Panel Size: 55-inch (available in 75 and 85-inch as well)
Panel Type: VA LED
Panel Resolution: 3840 x 2160 - 4K
Panel Refresh Rate: 120Hz
HDR 10 support: Yes
Dolby Vision Support: Yes
Weight (with stand): 19.1kgs
HDMI Ports: 4
USB Ports: 3
Bluetooth: Yes
Wi-Fi: Yes
Ethernet: Yes
Speakers: 2 x 10W
Built-in storage: 16GB
Price: MRP: 2,49,900

Display and picture quality

Let’s dive into the thing that matters the most first - display and picture quality. The Sony X95G has a VA panel with support for 4K resolution and HDR 10 along with Dolby Vision support. It also has a Netflix Mode, first launched with Sony’s Master Series line-up. For Dolby Vision content it has two settings - Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark. We will run through all of this in the sections below but let's get a few burning points out of the way. The TV has a VA panel. This means a good representation of blacks but the viewing angles suffer. Here is one thing to keep in mind. Sony has a technology called ‘X-Wide Angle’, which helps with the viewing angles of a VA panel. It is present on the X95G but not on the 55-inch variant that we have here for review. It is there on the 75- and 85-inch variants of the TV, which is a bummer. We did play content and shift around the room and up to about 50 degrees you shouldn’t face any problem with the viewing angles of the TV. Beyond that, it is subjective to the light in your room. More light means more reflection at acute angles and in a dark room, blacks start looking a little grey. It isn't a problem that breaks the TV’s viewing experience by any means, but we would have liked to see Sony’s wide-angle technology in the 55-inch variant as well.

4K and HDR performance

I said at the beginning of the review that I find it hard to recommend expensive TVs because of the value mid-range TVs bring. Yes, I’d like to take that back, please. Firing up our test sequences of Altered Carbon using the built-in Netflix app and the first frame kept me immersed. In season 1 episode 7 there is a fight sequence that switches between slow motion and fast-paced action in a warehouse littered with dark corners and sunlight coming through the roof. The dynamic range and peak brightness in these situations make the content look desirable. The protagonist is wearing armour with a webbing design on it and it all looked clear as day and detailed, especially when the protagonist moves through the dark areas of the room.

Other HDR content including DareDevil, Love death + Robots and more exhibited the same amount of detail in every scene they presented. The details in every frame of the content held my attention. The Panasonic TH-55FX800D (read our review here) is one TV from 2018 that I really liked and the Sony X95G surpasses the Panasonic one in terms of 4K HDR performance.

Coming to the Netflix mode, Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark, I personally prefer the Dolby Vision Bright mode for the content we played. In Dolby Vision Dark and Netflix mode, some content looked darker than I’d like and Dolby Vision Bright, as the name suggests, makes things a little bright.

FHD performance

We played a lot of FHD content from the TV like Wonder Woman, Young Sheldon, and more and FHD content is presented beautifully as well. The scenes in Young Sheldon look bright, and the facial features of the characters are visible with a lot of details. Even Wonder Woman, a movie whose performance I absolutely enjoyed on the 2018 Panasonic TV was miles ahead on the Sony. The gritty, slightly dark tone in well represented, and even Wonder Woman's outfit looked detailed and the sequence where she walks through the battlefield fending off bullets was one to watch.

We even saw a lot of World Cup matches on this TV and fast-moving sports content from the Hotstar app was enjoyable without any artificial smoothing.

Gaming performance

Our trusty Xbox One X was the console of choice and we played the following games: Forza Horizon 4, Doom and Gears of War 4. Here’s the thing. In Gears of War, which is a 4K HDR game, we saw the dim Gears icons on the title screen and loading screen, which we have not seen on budget HDR TVs highlighting the ability of the TV to render details in the dark. The HDR brightness slider which looks gimmicky on most budget TVs actually worked in the game on the TV. The details of the bricks in walls, to the character models, and the environment as a whole in Gears 4, was one to behold.

In Doom, which is a game in 4K but SDR, the surface of Mars looked dusty orange as it is supposed to. Sometimes when Doom loads a new area, you can see textures pop in. The pop-in was so evident in some sections that it is a testament to the TV's ability to render sharp details up close.

Now for some bad news - HDMI 2.1

HDMI 2.1 as a new standard will help with a lot of things. It will help with variable refresh rate, support for 8K 60Hz, support for BT2020 and eARC. The Sony X95G supports only eARC. It can display content in 120Hz but does not support variable refresh rate, a feature available on PCs and expected to be standard across the future generation gaming consoles.

The presence of eARC is nice though as it ensures you can connect it to audio systems that support the feature. With eARC, consumers will be able to get DTS-X and Dolby Atmos audio from the TV to compatible audio gear.

Not supporting all the features of HDMI 2.1 at this stage is still something one can consider acceptable as it will be a few years before most of the features are implemented into the content. But considering the price of the TV, consumers will use it for a decade before upgrading and the lack of some of the features doesn't exactly make it 100 percent future-proof.

Audio performance

Sony has implemented its Acoustic surface technology from its flagship OLED TVs and the sound from that is actually quite good considering they are TV speakers. But from the X85G I was left wanting a little more. Dialogues are clear, music is enjoyable, but the overall punch is missing. The thud of a shotgun, though present, feels a bit lacking. For everyday consumption, the speakers are pretty good, especially if you watch news, TV shows or switch channels. They sound a lot better than what we have seen on TVs around the Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,50,000 price point. You will need to resort to a soundbar or a home theatre to have an immersive movie watching or gaming experience.

UI

Sony has been helming Android TV OS since the beginning of Smart TVs and the experience has been lacklustre and laggy until the launch of Android TV 8. With the Sony X95G, we have Android 8 out of the box and the experience is butter smooth. There was not one moment, be it when gaming on a console, streaming using the native apps, logging into the play store when the UI didn't respond. It works very smoothly.

There are some subtle changes to the UI, which work well. If you want to change sources, picture or audio settings, you don't need to pull up the right side navigation bar to hamper the viewing experience. For basic setting changes like picture mode, audio, source and more, a small strip comes up at the bottom of the display and it is easy to navigate. You can add certain settings you'd like to access from this bar at the bottom, making it easier for you to change your most frequently used settings.

Apart from the new settings menu, the rest of the Android TV UI is the same that we have seen on previous Sony TVs. You have everything neatly laid out into rows. The top row houses all the apps you use frequently and the subsequent rows highlight content from other apps and streaming services based on your usage and preference. It is a clean UI giving content key visibility.

Remote control

What's this? A new remote control? A new design! Has Sony finally heard our prayers? Though the layout of the remote control had changed slightly, it is the build and the buttons themselves that have gone through the much-needed upgrade. The remote control now has a textured back giving it a good grip. The buttons are well spaced and have a nice rubbery click to them. If you grip the remote in the centre, you will have access to most of the functions in the reach of your thumb. Unlike the LG TV UI, Sony’s TV remote still doesn't have a mouse feature and typing is still manually navigating the on-screen keyboard, but you can use the Android TV app on your smartphone to make the typing process easier. Since passwords for apps like Netflix, Prime Videos and more can be saved in your Google Account, logging in to the TV once ensures all your streaming service apps are up and running without the need to log in again and again.

Build and design

Finally, let's talk about the build and design of the TV. The TV isn't the slimmest out there, and considering the amount of tech that goes into backlighting it along with no external power brick, it's OK. The placements of the ports are pretty standard. They are all on the right side of the TV. On the back, we have a USB port, three HDMI ports, optical audio port, LAN port, along with the good old antenna. On the right-side panel, we have one HDMI port, two USB ports, headphone out and a video-in port.

The thickness of the TV makes it convenient to reach the ports on the side when the TV is wall mounted.

Coming to the bezel, the TV has really slim bezels which do not interfere with the viewing experience. There is a small white LED at the bottom of the TV but you can control its intensity in the TVs UI. It is not a hindrance when watching TV.

If you decide to put the TV on a tabletop, then know that the feet are really wide, which means you will need a big table for this TV. The feet are so wide so that a soundbar can be comfortably placed below the TV without any problems. There is enough space for you to fit a gaming console below the TV if you want.

Bottom Line

The Sony X95G is a fantastic premium LED LCD TV and a worthy consideration for those that don't want to get on the OLED bandwagon. It has a bright rich display for consuming content and gaming. The UI is fluid, features plentiful and audio is acceptable for TV viewing. Where it lacks is missing out on the ‘X-Wide Angle’ technology found on its larger siblings and limited HDMI 2.1 functionality. We haven't tested other TVs in this price range so it's hard to tell how it compares to the 2019 offering from LG, Samsung, etc. But if you are looking for the latest premium LED TV, you can definitely consider this one. You won't be disappointed. There are 2018 flagships from other brands available at cheaper price points, making for a better value proposition, but since this is a 2019 TV, we’d reserve our comparison of this TV with other 2019 TVs and not models from 2018.

Verdict

Motorola One Macro is a solid device overall. It doesn’t have the macro camera for the sake of it. It’s there because it works well. Another USP of the smartphone can be its battery life. It lasts long. If you are in the market for a device that comes without bloatware and performs well alongside an efficient battery life, Motorola One Macro is the device to go for.

Motorola One Macro detailed review

Lately, Motorola has been launching phones with branding highlighting the USP of smartphones. It started with Motorola One Power, followed by One Vision and One Action. The Motorola One Macro is the latest addition to the Motorola One-family of smartphones. It features a dedicated macro lens that can zoom up to 5 times closer, as close as 2cm to the subject as compared to normal lens. While the macro camera is quite impressive, there’s a lot more to discuss. And in the end, is it worth the asking price? Let’s find out in the review.

Performance

Motorola One Macro is powered by the  2.0GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, paired with Mali-G72 GPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM. The phone comes in 64GB model, which can be expanded up to 512GB shared microSD card slot.

In our benchmark tests, the Motorola One Macro performed pretty well. It scored 140662, which is one of the highest we have recorded on a budget device. In everyday work, phone performance was satisfactory. It didn’t lag or delay while multitasking switching between Chrome tabs and jumping between apps. There were hiccups, but it didn’t necessarily slow down the phone.

Motorola One Macro scored 1,777 in 3DMark’s Sling Shot benchmark test. For reference, the highest we recorded on budget phones till now was on the Redmi 7, which scored 916. Though, we are yet to test Redmi 8 and Redmi Note 8.

Furthermore, Asphalt 9 ran at a median frame rate of 28 frames per second. During the gameplay, animations were mostly consistent and stutter-free. In contrast, PUBG ran at a median frame rate of 26 frames per second. We used Gamebench for recording all gaming metrics.

To sum it up, games run fine on the Motorola One Macro. Overall, the performance is satisfactory and doesn’t give much to complain about. Call performance on both earpiece and speaker was clear as well.

Software

While the Motorola One Macro belongs to the Motorola-One family, it is not part of the Android One program. Despite that, Motorola has confirmed that it will get two years of Android updates. It runs Android 9 Pie out of the box. One of my favourite parts of this phone is its almost stock Android-like interface.

motorola one macro prakhar khanna

It comes with almost no bloatware. The software offers Moto Actions like Flip for DND, Lift to unlock and more. I turned on ‘one-button navigation’ in a bid to use gestures for navigation. But Motorola’s take on gesture interface is cumbersome. You have to hold the bottom bar and swipe left to go back, which is rather clumsy as compared to just swiping from either side on Android 10. However, can’t blame Motorola for this as I was on an Android 10 device before this, also, that’s just how gestures work on Android 9 Pie. I hope Android 10 brings better gesture navigation to the One Macro.

Camera

Motorola One Macro prakhar khanna

The triple rear camera setup features a 13 MP main sensor with f/2.0 aperture + a 2MP dedicated macro camera + a 2MP depth sensor. The macro sensor is not clubbed together with other cameras and it has its own ring. The macro camera has its own big ring because 2cm is the minimum distance from which you can take macro shots. It clicks macro pictures at a magnification of 1:1.2. For reference, the minimum for anything to be called “macro” is 1:1 and Motorola One Macro exceeds that.

Motorola one macro parkyprakhar

Additionally, the smartphone sports a laser autofocus module. And it works very well, that too in all kinds of lighting conditions. At times, the device doesn’t click until the focus is set, other times it focuses swiftly.  Details in daylight is satisfactory. However, the dynamic range could have been better. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either. While there are some fun camera modes like Spot Colour, I’d like it more if Motorola updated its processing algorithm.

Motorola One Macro Prakhar khanna

As for low light, the camera doesn’t perform well here. The details are lost, plus, there’s too much noise in the images. It reminds you in every shot that it lacks a night mode. The images are below average by 2019 standards.

Motorola one macro prakhar khanna

motorola one macro

motorola one macro

Coming to the USP of Motorola One Macro, the depth camera, we did a whole piece on how it performed, which you can read here. The Macro Vision camera goes very close to the subject. It works rather well. It captures satisfactory details in the macro shots. Although, the macro camera keeps moving in and out of focus while looking for the subject by itself. However, once told where to focus, it does it rather effectively. What’s worth noting is that macro shots lack sharpness and details in low-light environment. All in all, macro photography on the Motorola One Macro is impressive.

Further, selfies from the 8MP shooter are fine. While dynamic range struggles here as well, portrait shots look alright, but there's room for improvement. In videos, dynamic range is even poorer than the stills. However, stabilisation is alright. One can record full HD videos both on the rear and the front-facing cameras.

Display and Audio

Motorola One Macro features a 6.2-inch Max Vision HD+ display. It has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. The display is crisp and viewing angles are fine as well. There is also a Night Light setting, which blocks Blue light and makes the display warmer. Screen brightness can go up to 466 LUX, which is pretty good in the price range. However, it is reflective while using under bright sunlight. But it isn’t disappointing by any means. The display is one of the best in the price range.

Motorola One Macro prakhar khanna

Coming to the audio, it is loud. In fact, it is one of the loudest speakers on a mobile phone under Rs 10,000. The clarity is up to the mark, but sound muddles when it comes to hitting frequencies.

All in all, be it playing games or watching movies, Motorola One Macro is a decent phone for media consumption.

Battery

Motorola One Macro packs a 4000mAh battery and the battery life on this phone is excellent. Motorola has done a commendable job here. We played a video on loop at full brightness to see how long does it take the phone to go from 100 to 0, and it lasted for more than 12 hours - that’s more than any of the sub-Rs 10,000 phones we have tested thus far.

During the tests, the One Macro was put through many sessions of gaming, web browsing, simultaneous app installs and downloads and online video playback. It performed well throughout the tests. Moreover, leaving the phone unattended didn’t have a significant impact on battery life either. It lasted for one and a half days with fairly heavy use.

The battery took 2 hours and 10 minutes to charge completely from zero to 100 percent. While it reached 58 percent in under an hour, the battery took 15 minutes to go from 95 percent to 100 percent.

Build and Design

Motorola One Macro sports a plastic body that’s built fairly well. It fits rather nicely in the hand, the power button is right where it is needed to be. All the buttons - power and volume rockers - lie on the right side of the phone. I prefer the volume buttons below the power button, but that’s just a personal choice. However, the buttons are easily reachable, tactile and clicky. On the right edge lies a dual nano-SIM card slot. It can be used to either include to nano SIMs or one nano-SIM and one microSD card.

Motorola One Macro

The rear panel sports a gradient ‘Space Blue’ finish, which looks attractive. However, when you hold the phone you’ll notice that the glossy plastic registers smudges and fingerprints. We also noticed that the back panel scratches easily. Hence, it is advised to use the clear case included in the box. Further, it is equipped with the triple rear camera setup on the top left side. The cameras don’t protrude from the back. There is also ‘motorolaone’ branding at the bottom, which goes unnoticed until you are looking for it.

Motorola One Macro

The Motorola logo at the back doubles as a fingerprint sensor. The bottom edge includes a primary microphone, a USB Type-C charging port and five small circular speaker vents for speakers. Coming to the top edge, it houses a microphone a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The phone weighs 186 grams and the weight distribution makes it slide into the hands perfectly. Overall, Motorola One Macro sports a top-notch design for the price point. It is simple but practical and elegant.

Bottom Line

Motorola One Macro is a solid device overall. The performance is satisfactory and so is the camera performance. This is the best phone in the range to click macro shots from. However, it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to low-light photography. The device comes with almost no bloatware and has two years of Android updates promised. Battery life on the Motorola One Macro is another USP of the phone. It offers good value for its price.

Australian 'country girl' from Gippsland becomes rich after claiming Oz Lotto's $20million jackpot | Daily Mail Online

'Country girl' is revealed as the winner of Oz Lotto's $20MILLION jackpot - here's the VERY humble way she'll start spending her fortune

  • A 'country girl' from Drouin in Victoria's Gippsland region has won $20million

  • The Victorian resident plans to celebrate with a visit to the local pub

A self-described 'country girl' will be celebrating her $20million lotto win with a meal at the local pub.

The woman from Drouin in Gippsland, Victoria, became a multimillionaire overnight after scoring a winning ticket in Oz Lotto's Tuesday night draw.

But the humble Australian said she has no plans to stop working despite her new wealth.

'I don't know what I'd do with myself if I retired! I'm a country girl through and through!' she laughed.

She said she plans to share the money with her family, as well as splashing out on a few luxury items including a new car.

She also revealed she was eager to celebrate once Victoria's regional restrictions lifted later tonight.

'I'm looking forward to a meal at the pub to celebrate,' she said.

The Gippsland winner held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1387, drawn Tuesday 19 September 2020, and takes home a division one prize of $20 million.

As well as winning the coveted division one prize, her entry also scored division three 7 times, bolstering her total prize to $20,027,765.85.

'I marked the numbers with my birthday and things like that. I chose them so long ago now I don't know why I chose them,' she said.

When asked how it felt to become an overnight multi-millionaire, the thrilled winner revealed it was just one of several life-changing moments she'd experienced.

'A few years ago a family member had a serious accident so I am very much aware of how your life can change in the blink of an eye,' she declared.

Nigeria will get justice for its citizens in Ghana – Osinbajo

Published

on

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has assured that Nigerian traders facing stiff business regulation imposed by Ghana will get justice.

In August, authorities sealed their shops over a $1million equity stipulated by the Ghana Investment Promotions Council.

At a meeting with representatives of the Nigerian community in Ghana, Osinbajo said the government was looking into the situation.

“I will certainly convey the depth of your grievances to the President. I am sure that he will be deeply disturbed to hear that despite the assurances that he had received, (from the Ghanaian government) there are still problems and complications.”

He explained that the delay in resolving these issues was due to bureaucratic bottlenecks synonymous with governments.

“I look forward to getting the details and making sure that we are able to begin to resolve some of these issues as quickly as possible. You must also recognize that generally speaking, governments tend to be very slow, processes are slow, bureaucracies are slow, but we will make sure that we do the very best we can to get you your rights.

“I have followed closely developments here, and many of the incidents that you have described, I am already very familiar with. As a matter of fact, the President had asked that a review of all that had taken place be done. There have been direct communications between our President and President Akufo-Addo.

“Our President has spoken to him about this, he has made a formal complaint to him, and that conversation has been going on. What the Ghanaian government pledged to do, on three occasions, was that the shops will be reopened. In fact, I am a bit surprised that it has not taken place because my understanding was it was going to be done.

“It is very evident from what you have said here that there is so much that has gone wrong over a long period of time, and we really need to address these concerns in as detailed a manner as possible. And what I can say to you is that this is a matter that concerns the government very greatly…your welfare concerns us greatly.”

Osinbajo urged the affected traders to submit a more detailed letter containing the number of affected shops and other relevant information that would enable the Nigerian government follow-up effectively.

He appealed to nationals in Ghana to remain law-abiding and embrace peaceful coexistence.

New Delhi:

Sanjay Dutt's wife Maanayata shared a picture of themselves from a flight on Wednesday. It has been reported that the duo left for Dubai to meet their kids Shahraan and Iqra. Maanayata was living in Dubai with their kids during the lockdown. She returned to Mumbai last month after the actor, who is currently undergoing medical treatment, announced a "short break from work" but more on that later. According to a Times Of India report, Sanjay Dutt and Maanayata took a chartered flight to Dubai on Tuesday. "Sanjay is doing well, and is expected back home in just a week or 10 days. He wanted to see his twins, who are still in Dubai," the publication quoted a source as saying.

Take a look at the aforementioned picture of Maanayata and Sanjay Dutt, the caption on which read: "Enroute life."

Sanjay Dutt was hospitalised last month after he complained of breathlessness. The actor announced on August 11 that he would be taking a break from work for medical treatment. After his post, Maanayata issued a statement, in which she said: "I thank everyone who has expressed their well wishes for Sanju's speedy recovery. We need all the strength and prayers to overcome this phase... Sanju has always been a fighter, and so has our family. God has yet again chosen to test us to overcome the challenges ahead."

Safety Driver In Fatal Arizona Uber Self-driving Car Crash Charged With Homicide

WASHINGTON: The back-up safety driver behind the wheel of a self-driving Uber Technologies test vehicle that struck and killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona, in 2018 was charged with negligent homicide, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Rafael Vasquez, age 46, who is also known as Rafaela, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday after being charged in the death of Elaine Herzberg on Aug. 27, court records show. She was released pending trial set for February 2021.

Herzberg died after she was struck while walking a bicycle across a street at night. The first recorded death involving a self-driving vehicle prompted significant safety concerns about the nascent autonomous vehicle industry.

Uber declined comment. A lawyer for Vasquez did not immediately respond to a request to comment.

A Tempe police report said Vasquez was repeatedly looking down instead of keeping her eyes on the road. Prosecutors in March 2019 said Uber was not criminally liable in the crash.

“Distracted driving is an issue of great importance in our community,” said Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel. “When a driver gets behind the wheel of a car, they have a responsibility to control and operate that vehicle safely.”

Police said previously the crash was “entirely avoidable” and that Vasquez was streaming “The Voice” TV program at the time of the crash.

In November, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) faulted Vasquez’s inactions and Uber for inadequate attention to safety and decisions in the company’s autonomous vehicle development.

The NTSB said the probable cause was Vasquez’s failure to monitor the driving environment “because she was visually distracted throughout the trip by her personal cell phone.” She was supposed to act in the event of an emergency.

Uber made a series of development decisions that contributed to the crash’s cause, the NTSB said. The software in the modified Volvo XC90 did not properly identify Herzberg as a pedestrian and did not address “operators’ automation complacency.”

Uber deactivated the automatic emergency braking systems in the Volvo XC90 vehicle and precluded the use of immediate emergency braking, relying instead on the back-up driver.

Edo election: Fani-Kayode blasts Tinubu, says action will work against Pastor Ize-Iyamu

Published

Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has attacked Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over his broadcast on the Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

The former Aviation Minister said the broadcast served as nothing but comic relief, adding Tinubu may make Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu lose the governorship election.

Tinubu had in a 12-minute broadcast appealed to the people of Edo State to reject Godwin Obaseki, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The former Lagos State Governor said that “Obaseki does not deserve any democratic ballot paper. Don’t vote for him, I appeal to all of you.”

He further narrated how he suffered along with many others to gain democracy for the country.

“I, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, want to appeal as a committed democrat, and the leader of all democrats regardless of our political parties, to our conscience and commitment to democracy today on the forthcoming election in Edo State,” he said.

But reacting in a tweet on Tuesday night, Fani-Kayode said, “Tinubu’s broadcast served as nothing but comic relief. It was more of a long-winded slur and self-serving pepper soup-joint rant than a speech.

“It served as nothing but a repugnant and repulsive repellant to Edo State voters and his anti-Obaseki diatribe may cost Ize Iyamu the election.”

Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers Report says extreme poverty has increased by seven per cent, calls for collaboration to tackle pandemic

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s fourth annual Goalkeepers Report, features new data showing how the ripple effects of COVID-19 have stopped 20 years of progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals).

According to the report, because of COVID-19, extreme poverty has increased by seven per cent, while vaccine coverage, is dropping to levels last seen in the 1990s, setting the world back about 25 years in 25 weeks.

The report, co-authored by Bill and Melinda Gates, calls on the world to collaborate on the development of diagnostics, vaccines, and treatment; manufacture tests and doses as quickly as possible; and deliver these tools equitably based on need rather than the ability to pay. The report refers to several viable strategies to help achieve an equitable outcome, including the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, which brings together proven organisations like Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

“The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us some of the best of humanity: pathbreaking innovation, heroic acts by frontline workers, and ordinary people doing the best they can for their families, neighbors, and communities,” Bill and Melinda Gates write. “This is a shared global crisis that demands a shared global response.”

Bournemouth beat Crystal Palace 1110 in an unusually long penalty shootout to advance to the third round of the English League Cup after the game ended at 00 after 90 minutes on Tuesday.

LONDON: Bournemouth beat Crystal Palace 11-10 in an unusually long penalty shootout to advance to the third round of the English League Cup after the game ended at 0-0 after 90 minutes on Tuesday.

As the sides remained deadlocked after five penalties each, even both goalkeepers had to take spot kicks and they both missed.

Eventually David Brooks scored his second penalty for Bournemouth and Luka Milivojevics second was saved by goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to knock out the Premier League side.

Bournemouth, which was relegated from the Premier League in July, plays Manchester City in the next round.

GREALISH DELIGHT

Jack Grealish celebrated his new contract at Aston Villa by scoring the decisive goal in a 3-1 victory over Burton.

The match looked to be heading for a penalty shootout after Ollie Watkins had scored Villas equalizer late in the first half to cancel out Colin Daniels opener for the third-division team after only 68 seconds.

But Grealish struck a volley from the edge of the area to put Dean Smiths team in front in the 88th minute.

Keinan Davis made sure of the victory in stoppage time to set up a trip to Bristol City or Northampton in the next round.

HALLER DOUBLE

Sebastien Haller scored twice in four first-half minutes before Felipe Anderson added a late third as West Ham advanced past Charlton 3-0.

The win may only temporarily paper over the cracks after West Hams poor start to the season a 2-0 home loss to Newcastle on Saturday as well as unrest off the field.

DEBUT GOAL

Ryan Fraser secured Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over Blackburn by scoring on his first appearance for the northeast club, which will play fourth-tier side Morecambe in the third round.

Woke Australian bookstore BANS Harry Potter to make the shop a 'safe space' from JK Rowling's views on transgender people

  • JK Rowling novels banned by store to make 'safe space' for transgender people
  • Rabble Books and Games in Western Australia announced decision Wednesday
  • It said it would 'not put books by transphobes on the shelves' in Facebook post
  • Decision follows JK Rowling making headlines for her views on transgenderism
  • Author has been subject to backlash online for her latest book, Troubled Blood

An Australian bookstore has banned the Harry Potter series to make the shop a 'safer space'.

Rabble Books and Games, in Maylands, Perth, announced on Wednesday it would cease stocking JK Rowling novels after she was accused of transphobia over her latest book.

Owner Nat Latter said on Facebook the store would 'not put books by transphobes on the shelves' and asked customers for suggested alternatives.

'Whilst stocking a book isn't an endorsement (good grief, that would be a minefield), and we will always take orders for books that aren't in stock, there are more worthy books to put on the shelf, books that don't harm communities and won't make us sad to unpack them,' she wrote.

'We are always trying to make Rabble a safer space for our community, and part of that is trying not to put books by transphobes on the shelves, when we know about them.'

Rowling has been criticised for her views on transgender people since tweeting her support for a researcher who was sacked for her own views on the topic.

In June the bestselling author made headlines again after she mocked an online article on Twitter for using the words 'people who menstruate' instead of 'women'.

The 55-year-old was hit by what she described as 'relentless attacks' after writing: 'I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?'

Her remarks sparked backlash from Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne, stars of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies.

Rowling became embroiled in another trans row on Sunday after an early review of the her latest novel, Troubled Blood, by The Telegraph revealed it featured a 'transvestite serial killer' who wore women's clothing while murdering his victims.

The review caused some social media users to label Troubled Blood as 'transphobic' and 'really painful' - and the backlash caused #RIPJKRowling to trend on Twitter.

Others said the book is not transphobic at all and over-eager detractors should read it before jumping to conclusions.

Mailonline columnist Piers Morgan added: 'The fact #RIPJKRowling is trending says all you need to know about the woke brigade - they're nastier and more viciously intolerant than anyone they preach about.'
