TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- QEDIT, a Privacy-Enhancing Technology provider, has announced its participation in a $12.6 million USD government-funded research project, geared towards harnessing advanced cryptography to preserve the integrity of complex software programs.
Funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the $12.6 million contract was awarded to R&D specialist firm Galois to lead Project Fromager, with QEDIT being awarded $2 million of the funding allocation. Project Fromager is one of 12 projects being funded in conjunction with DARPA's Securing Information for Encrypted Verification and Evaluation (SIEVE) program, which aims to use Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) to enable the verification of capabilities relevant to the Department of Defense without revealing the sensitive details associated with those capabilities.
The SIEVE program also seeks to advance the performance and efficiency of ZKPs and broaden the accessibility of ZKP technology to new swathes of platform-agnostic developers.
Jonathan Rouach, CEO and Co-Founder of QEDIT, said, "QEDIT is delighted to partner with Galois and other esteemed academic institutions as part of this landmark research project on behalf of DARPA. This project underlines the pronounced value of ZKP cryptography as a means of delivering a new, more powerful standard of privacy at the highest levels of industry and government. We are proud to accelerate the global deployment of ZKPs for practical applications."
Project Fromager is expected to run through to 2024, and aims to use ZKPs to swiftly test the integrity of complex software programs to ensure that the code has not been compromised. It will be spearheaded by Galois, and will also leverage the academic resources of Denmark'sAarhus University, New York'sColumbia University, and Belgium'sKu Leuven University.
Dr. Alex Malozemoff, Principal Researcher at Galois, said, "We at Galois are constantly striving to close the gap between research and real-world deployment. The current state of Zero-Knowledge Proof technology is right at this point. While Zero-Knowledge Proofs have seen wide deployment in cryptocurrencies, more general approaches are just now beginning to be seen as viable in commercial and governmental settings. We are excited to team up with QEDIT: their industry experience, alongside being leaders in the standardization effort around zero-knowledge, is invaluable to the maturation of these technologies."
QEDIT offers a suite of enterprise solutions based on ZKP cryptography and other privacy-enhancing techniques to help businesses mitigate risk and stay competitive through privacy-compliant, cross-organizational data collaboration. The company provides a platform that facilitates fraud detection between insurance competitors, intelligence-sharing among banks to identify financial crime, as well as more streamlined and efficient identity and certification management processes.
Aviv Zohar, QEDIT Chief Scientist and Co-Founder said, "Research is deeply ingrained in the fabric of QEDIT's DNA and our ongoing work with the global ZKProof standardization initiative is a measure of this. Project Fromager represents a tremendous opportunity to bolster our credentials as the standard-setter for ZKP solutions, but it's also a platform to explore the potential use of QEDIT's zkInterface, which is currently under review for standardization at ZKProof, to facilitate interoperability between solutions developed by various SIEVE teams. QEDIT's team of seasoned cryptographers and advisors have broad theoretical and practical experience when it comes to developing efficient ZKP systems and we can't wait to get started."
QEDIT helps enterprises leverage third-party data through the use of privacy-enhancing technologies (PET). Founded by a world-class team of accomplished entrepreneurs, researchers, and developers, QEDIT empowers businesses by enabling them to safely share intelligence, without relinquishing data ownership and without violating local data privacy regulations. Through the use of Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) cryptography and other cutting-edge, cryptographically-secure techniques, QEDIT's suite of enterprise solutions removes data-driven barriers to industry-wide privacy challenges in the fields of finance, supply chain, insurance, and human resources. Mohammedan Sporting Says It's Ready To Play Anwar Ali Less Than 60 Minutes Per Game
Mohammedan Sporting is ready to do all it can to ensure that Anwar Ali's promising football career is not cut short by a congenital heart condition -- even if that means playing him less than 60 minutes per match.
AFC's medical committee is currently deciding if Anwar Ali should play
Anwar Ali was diagnosed with congenital heart condition
Anwar Ali was a regular in India's campaign at the U-17 World Cup in 2017
Mohammedan Sporting is ready to do all it can to ensure that Anwar Ali's promising football career is not cut short by a congenital heart condition -- even if that means playing him less than 60 minutes per match. Mohammedan Sporting secretary Dipendu Biswas on Wednesday said his club is ready to give even 30 minutes of playing time per game to the 20-year-old, who is determined to carry on. In addition to that, the club won't mind making arrangements for training sessions under special supervision for Ali.
Biswas, a former India international who has also turned out for the three Maidan heavyweights, cited his own example -- as well as of a few overseas players -- of having played the game with a similar condition for years.
"There was an England and Manchester United player who was diagnosed with a similar condition, now he would play for 60 minutes for the team and train under supervision. We are ready to follow in their footsteps, for Anwar," Biswas told PTI.
"And as you know, I played for so many years in top-flight with a similar condition."
Eagerly awaiting the All India Football Federation's medical committee verdict on his future in competitive football following another round of medical investigations and tests, Ali has written to the AIFF, saying stopping him from playing the sport would be a "death sentence" for him.
"Article 21 of the Indian Constitution guarantees me the right to earn a livelihood for myself.
"If I wish to take an informed risk and am ready to monitor my condition with the help of medical experts, then it is ultimately my choice, whether I wish to take the risk of playing football professionally," he wrote in the letter.
The sole bread earner of a poor family in Adampur village near Jalandhar, Ali said it would be very difficult for him to make ends meet without football.
"He (Ali) is a fine prospect for the country, and will be an asset to any team not just Mohammedan. The big league awaits him and we are also seriously eyeing an ISL spot having found an investor," Biswas said.
"Of course, at the end of the day, we will follow what the AFC and AIFF decide but it will be unfair if he is not playing football now," he added.
The federation's medical committee is currently deciding whether or not Ali should be allowed to play, having sent his reports to the Asian Football Confederation. He was recently asked to stop training.
Ali was a regular in India's campaign at the U-17 World Cup in 2017. He also scored the winner against Argentina U-20 side during a friendly match in the COTIF tournament in Spain.
The centre-back was even named among the probables by India senior team head coach Igor Stimac for the King's Cup in Thailand in 2019. But test reports from France, where he had gone to consult with a renowned specialist, prevented him from joining the camp.
Ali's career has been left hanging in the balance ever since he was diagnosed with the condition. It eventually led to the termination of his contract with ISL side Mumbai City FC, following consultations with top doctors in France and Mumbai.
He was a a part of AIFF's developmental side Indian Arrows after his promising beginning at the Minerva Punjab academy in Panchkula.
The Honor 7s comes out as just another budget smartphone with nothing really special about it. The taller display is surely one of those things that are trickling down to the entry-level segment, but the inadequate memory and storage is an instant deal-breaker. OEMs should realise that running a full-fledged version of Android (that too with a customised skin on top) with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage isn’t a pleasurable experience. Perhaps if this was powered by Google’s Android Oreo (Go Edition), the experience wouldn’t have been so sluggish. Either way, it would be difficult to recommend this phone to anyone. Instead, I’d suggest to spend a bit more and get the Honor 7A or the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.

Huawei Honor 7S detailed review
Honor’s tirades in the smartphone market in India is akin to that of Xiaomi’s — Inundate the market with phones at as many price points as possible under the guise of offering more choice to the consumer. With the Honor 7s, the company now has at least one device for almost every price range. The Honor 7s is the most affordable of them all and with a tall 18:9 display, does it have enough to make your money’s worth? Let’s find out.
Design
The Honor 7s, like most other entry-level phones has a generic design — An aluminium body with distinct antenna lines, rounded corners and curved edges, and a bezel-heavy display. Expecting anything more than this is unrealistic for the price of Rs 6,999. It doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor and relies on the front camera to authenticate using face unlock. That works pretty fast, but how secure is the implementation can be questioned. It’s also quite compact. The Honor 7s fits a 5.45-inch display in a 5.7-inch body. That’s almost the same dimensions as the newly launched Xiaomi Redmi 6A. The compact nature makes the 18:9 panel easy to use and operate and is quite ergonomic to hold. Down below is the micro-USB port, while on top of the display is the speaker, integrated into the earpiece. I like this implementation more as holding the phone up in landscape mode doesn’t muffle the sound. Overall, there is nothing to write home about the design of the Honor 7s. It’s bland, but perfectly functional. Just what a user needs in a budget smartphone.
Display
The Honor 7s touts a 5.45-inch IPS LCD display of 720x1440p resolution. Expecting a fullHD+ display in this range isn’t fair and this one does the job quite well. The effective pixel density is around 295 ppi, same as the Redmi 6A. In a lot of ways, the two displays are more or less similar. They are sufficiently bring to view content indoors and while out in the sun, the colours do get washed out and text becomes difficult to read. The touch is a bit sluggish and there’s a definite lag in the phone responding to your finger. There are options to turn on the blue light filter and to adjust the colour temperature as well as to force apps to scale up to the 18:9 aspect ratio. Videos from YouTube and the likes look decent, but playing a high resolution video file will slow the phone down considerably. There is also visible banding in areas like blue skies or a space scene. Once again, the Honor 7s’ display isn’t the best part of the phone, but is perfectly functional.
Performance and Software
The Honor 7s uses the MediaTek 6739 SoC to power the smartphone. That is paired with a meagre 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and is the primary cause of the performance bottleneck. Because of the low RAM, available memory is usually just around 300-400 MB and stressing the phone even by little is enough to slow it down or simply crash and restart. You won’t be able to install a lot of apps on this one either. You only get around 10GB of space for your apps and I was left with only 5GB of free space after installing just the basic apps like Facebook, Instagram and the likes. I’d recommend using Google’s Go suite of apps for the phone. They are designed to run on Android Oreo (Go Edition) phones, but it’s also helpful in this case. They take up less storage space and use less RAM as well. You do get a dedicated microSD card slot that allows the storage to expand to up to 256GB and it’s a good option to store music and videos and keep the onboard storage free for apps. The phone also offers Dual SIM Dual Standby that allows one to use mobile data from the second SIM while on a call on the first SIM. It’s quite handy.
Benchmark reports pegs the phone in the same league as the Xiaomi Redmi 6A. On AnTuTu, it got a score of 46416 while on Geekbench Single and Multi Core tests, it scored 661 and 1797 respectively. On 3DMark’s Slingshot test, it scored a meagre 150. Most other benchmarks like the 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme and the PCMark Work 2.0 failed to work. Needless to say, this isn’t the ideal device to play games like PubG Mobile. You can still play lighter games like Subway Surfer but even there, there will be frame drops.
The Honor 7s is powered by EMUI 8.0. While the OS works without a hitch in more expensive phones, the inadequate hardware on this smartphone makes the experience quite sluggish. There are visible lags in operating the phone. The camera takes ages to launch from the lock screen and even the screen unlocks after a good 3-4 seconds. But all that is expected in a budget phone, and it’s the same case across other smartphones in that price range. We reviewed the Xiaomi Redmi 6A recently and there too the experience is quite sluggish.
Camera
The Honor 7s sports a 13MP camera at the back while on the front there is a 5MP selfie shooter paired with a LED flash. The camera, quite expectedly, isn’t going to impress the photographer in you, but it’s capable enough to take well-exposed shots under optimal lighting. The photos are, however, good enough for social media.
In the day, the photos come out well-exposed, but with overly saturated colours. There’s little dynamic range and most of the details gets lost in the shadows. Having said that, I quite like the resulting shots I managed to shoot from this phone, even more the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The extra saturation does the trick for me. Saturated photos tend to look more eye-pleasing and for some, that’s better than photos that are more or less neutral in colour.
Indoors, though, the camera isn’t much of use. There is a significant shutter lag and the photo takes quite some time to process, and you’ll have to wait a good 2-3 seconds before shooting the next photo.
The camera quality deteriorates further when shooting in low-light. It struggles to focus and there is a hazy effect in the overall photo.
Battery
The Honor 7s relies on a 3,020mAh battery for power and it surely lasts long considering the display and the hardware aren’t that power-hungry. While PCMark 3.0 couldn’t run on the phone, based on my usage, it’s easy to get around 8 hours of screen-on time which easily converts to over a day’s usage. I used the phone to take photos and browse social media and open a few websites. Honor claims the phone uses smart algorithms to optimise power draw. It seems to work and the battery drain is quite slow in this phone. There is no fast charging support though, and you’ll have spend at least two hours to top up the phone.
Bottomline

Just seven days ago, Bajaj Auto increased the prices of its first 250cc offering in India, the Dominar. The Bajaj Dominar was initially launched a few months ago with a price tag of Rs 1.60 lakh. Seven days ago, the price was increased to Rs 1.64 lakh. Now, the price has been increased again by Rs 218. The new Bajaj Dominar 250 price is now Rs 164,218, ex-Delhi. It seems a very nominal hike, with the company not giving any specific reason for the increase. However, at the time of launch Bajaj Auto had mentioned that the pricing will be introductory. We recently rode the Bajaj Dominar 250 and came back impressed by the overall package. It seems like a value-for-money prospect especially for someone upgrading from a 150cc bike. With this price hike the acquisition cost has gone up but there are no changes to the specs.
For example, the bike continues to be powered by a 248.77cc, single-cylinder engine that is liquid-cooled. This engine makes 26.6hp of power and 23.5Nm. A 6-speed slipper clutch assisted transmission is mated to this engine. As we are aware, the bike shares its engine with the KTM 250 Duke. The styling is similar to the Dominar 400. However, the prime changes are the smaller front forks as well as the thinner rear tyre. There are disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. The rear suspension is a monoshock unit.
The instrument console is a fully-digital unit and boasts a wide variety parameters like the fuel gauge, odometer as well as the speedometer. Bajaj has pitted the Dominar 250 against the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer 250, and Yamaha FZ250. The latter is the most affordable of this lot and comes with nearly the same feature set as the others. Bajaj, during the pandemic, has been raising prices across segments and most of its “affordable” bikes seem to be priced way above the mark now.

A Quarter Of U.S. Gulf Of Mexico Output Offline As Hurricane Advances
More than a quarter of U.S. offshore Gulf of Mexico oil output was shut and export ports were closed on Tuesday as Hurricane Sally stalled just off the U.S. Gulf Coast, pelting the region with heavy rains.

HOUSTON: More than a quarter of U.S. offshore Gulf of Mexico oil output was shut and export ports were closed on Tuesday as Hurricane Sally stalled just off the U.S. Gulf Coast, pelting the region with heavy rains.
Sally weakened on Tuesday to a Category One hurricane with sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (140 kph), moving at a snail’s pace that threatened “historic” flooding from Mississippi to Florida, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in a late day update https://tinyurl.com/y66gwc4s.
The storm plowed through prime U.S. offshore production areas and was meandering on a path toward Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, sparing New Orleans and some larger Gulf Coast refineries from its winds and rain.
Royal Dutch Shell shut its Appomattox oil platform about 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, joining BP , Chevron Corp and Equinor in closing facilities less than one month after Hurricane Laura knocked about 1.5 million barrels per day of oil offline temporarily.
Nearly 500,000 bpd of offshore crude oil production and 28%, or 759 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), of natural gas output were shut in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Interior Department.
U.S. crude oil futures rose nearly 3% and gasoline futures climbed 2.3% on Tuesday on the hurricane-related oil production and refinery shut-ins despite demand losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The nation’s sole offshore terminal, the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), stopped loading tankers on Sunday, while ports from Biloxi, Mississippi, to Pensacola, Florida, were closed. Ports along the Mississippi River began to reopen late Tuesday with restrictions. The closings will cut roughly 307,000 bpd of crude and 411,000 bpd of refined products, according to Kpler data.
As of 10 p.m. CDT (0300 GMT) on Tuesday, Sally was about 65 miles (105 km) south of Mobile, Alabama, and crawling toward the northwest at 2 mph (3 kph). The crawling advance threatened to inundate the region.
Refiners in the region have wound down operations. Phillips 66 shut its Alliance oil refinery, which processes 255,600 bpd at a site along the Mississippi River on the coast of Louisiana.
Shell cut production to minimum rates on Monday at its 227,400-bpd Norco, Louisiana, refinery, but planned to keep a Mobile, Alabama, chemical and refinery plant operating with a skeleton crew.
Murphy Oil Corp said it was beginning to restore production at its eastern-most Gulf of Mexico oil platforms, and oil-giant Equinor said it expected to return workers to its Titan platform on Thursday.

Golf: History A Red Flag For In-form Johnson At U.S. Open
Form has Dustin Johnson as the hot favourite to be holding the U.S. Open trophy on Sunday but history is a major red flag for the bighitting world number one.
Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 7:22 AM IST
Form has Dustin Johnson as the hot favourite to be holding the U.S. Open trophy on Sunday but history is a major red flag for the big-hitting world number one.
Having won three tournaments, the FedExCup and the $15 million payday that goes with that title, it is hard to think 2020 could get any better for Johnson.
A major victory, however, would put a cherry on top of a campaign that has already seen the 36-year-old American land PGA Tour Player of the Year honours.
Johnson rolls into Winged Foot Golf Club as the man to beat riding a spectacular run of form that saw him post two wins and two runner-up finishes in his last four starts.
Mr Consistency, Johnson has won at least one event every year since joining the PGA Tour in 2008 but in those 13 seasons has claimed a single major victory.
Johnson has arrived at many majors as the man to beat but only once in 43 starts — the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club — walked away with the trophy.
Four-times he has held or shared the 54-hole lead going into the final round of a major, including last month’s PGA Championship, and was never able to close the deal.
“I’m playing well,” said Johnson, who will tee off in Thursday’s opening round alongside two other big-hitters Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in the game but I’m not putting any extra expectations.
“I expect to play well every week.
“But it’s one of those golf courses where it’s very difficult and you need to be spot-on if you want to play well.”
FEROCIOUS LAYOUT
Scheduled for June before COVID-19 forced a reshuffling of the golf calendar, the U.S. Open returns to the ferocious Mamaroneck, N.Y. layout for the first time since 2006 when Australian Geoff Ogilvy hoisted the trophy.
The U.S. Open is branded as golf’s toughest test and Winged Foot fits the bill, requiring accuracy off the tee and a surgeon’s delicate touch on treacherous greens.
It is the venue where Tiger Woods missed his first cut at a major and Phil Mickelson endured perhaps the most gut-wrenching, of his record six runner-up U.S. Open finishes.
Tied for the lead going into the final round and needing only a par to take the title, Mickelson double-bogeyed the 18th to gift victory to Ogilvy.
Woods and Mickelson are back at Winged Foot but the one-time favourites will be long shots to add to their collections of major titles.
Chasing a 16th career major, Woods’s play has been erratic since the COVID-19 restart and he has managed just one top 40 result, a tie for 37th at the PGA Championship.
The 44-year-old’s form has been even more spotty coming into the U.S. Open with a tie for 58th at the Northern Trust and 51st at the BMW Championship.
For Mickelson, teeing it up at his 29th U.S. Open, it represents one more shot at completing golf’s career grand slam by adding the one major title that has cruelly eluded him.
Having just become a first time father, Rory McIlroy’s mind has been elsewhere and the Northern Irishman’s play has reflected that with only one top 10 result in his last six starts.
But following the birth of his daughter Poppy his focus was back as he finished in a tie for eighth at the Tour Championship, providing the former world number one with a jolt of confidence heading to Winged Foot.
Big-hitting Spaniard Jon Rahm, who briefly held the number one ranking this year, has a pair of wins since the restart plus the muscle to get around Winged Foot and could be ready to claim his first major success.
Also not to be overlooked is Justin Thomas, a three-time winner this season coming off a runner-up finish at the Tour Championship.
Trump Again Denies Downplaying Coronavirus Situation at Televised Event, Casts Doubt on Mask Usage

Trump was defensive but resisted agitation as he was pressed on his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and why he doesn't more aggressively promote the use of masks to reduce the spread of the disease.
Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 11:19 AM IST
Fielding compelling questions about voters’ real-world problems, President Donald Trump denied during a televised town hall that he had played down the threat of the coronavirus earlier this year, although there is an audio recording of him stating he did just that.
Trump, in what could well be a preview of his performance in the presidential debates less than two weeks away, cast doubt on the widely accepted scientific conclusions of his own administration strongly urging the use of face coverings and seemed to bat away the suggestion that the nation has racial inequities.
“Well, I hope there’s not a race problem,” Trump said Tuesday when asked about his campaign rhetoric seeming to ignore the historical injustices carried out against Black Americans.
Face-to-face with everyday voters for the first time in months, Trump was defensive but resisted agitation as he was pressed on his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and why he doesn't more aggressively promote the use of masks to reduce the spread of the disease.
“There are people that don’t think masks are good,” Trump said, though his own Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly urges their use.
The event, hosted by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, was a warmup of sorts before Trump faces Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the first presidential debate on Sept. 29. Taped at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, it featured Trump taking questions from an audience of just 21 voters to comply with state and local coronavirus regulations.
Trump sought to counter his admission to journalist Bob Woodward that he was deliberately “playing it down” when discussing the threat of COVID-19 to Americans earlier this year. Despite audio of his comments being released, Trump said: “Yeah, well, I didn’t downplay it. I actually, in many ways, I up-played it, in terms of action."
“My action was very strong,” Trump added. “I’m not looking to be dishonest. I don’t want people to panic.”
Trump also insisted he was not wrong when he praised China's response to the virus in January and February, saying he trusted Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader. “He told me that it was under control, that everything was and it turned out to be not true,” Trump said,
Trump also suggested the virus would disappear without a vaccine, claiming the nation would develop a herd immunity with time, but he didn't mention the lives that would be lost along the way.
“It’s going to be herd-developed, and that’s going to happen. That will all happen,” Trump said. "But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly."
The questions from uncommitted voters were pointed and poignant: a diabetic man who said he felt he’d been thrown “under the bus” by mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic; a Black woman with a disease that left her uninsurable until the Obama health care law came along who is worried that she could lose coverage again; a Black pastor who questioned Trump’s campaign motto to “Make America Great Again.”
“When has America been great for African Americans in the ghetto of America?” the pastor asked.
Asked about what he was doing to address protests against racial injustice, Trump lamented a “lack of respect” and the absence of “retribution” for those who clash with or carry out attacks against police officers. Trump on Sunday called for the death penalty for the individual who shot and critically injured two Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies over the weekend.
Trump has been unusually mum on his debate preparations ahead of the first debate, set to take place in Cleveland. On Tuesday, he told Fox News that he believes his day job is the best practice for his three scheduled showdowns with Biden.
“Well, I sort of prepare every day by just doing what I’m doing,” Trump said. He noted that he had been in California on Monday and had been to other states before that to make the point that he’s getting out and about more than Biden.
One person likely to study the replay: Biden. Returning from a long day of campaigning in Florida, Biden said at his plane that he was preparing for the debates mostly by going back through what Trump has said in the past. But he suggested he had yet to initiate mock debates, saying he was unaware who would play the role of Trump in his preparations.
Trump, in the Fox interview, lowered expectations for his Democratic opponent's performance, judging Biden “a disaster” and “grossly incompetent” in the primary debates. He assessed Biden as “OK” and “fine” in his final one-on-one debate with Bernie Sanders before clinching the nomination.
Trump's rhetoric on Biden marked a departure from the traditional efforts by candidates to talk up their rivals' preparation for televised debates, in hopes of setting an unattainably high bar for their performance.
The second of the three scheduled debates, set to be held in Miami on Oct. 15, will feature a similar “town meeting” style.
Biden is to have his own opportunity to hone his skills taking questions from voters on Thursday, when he participates in a televised town hall hosted by CNN.
The visit to Pennsylvania is Trump’s second to the battleground state in the last week, after he attended a Sept. 11 memorial event in Shanksville on Friday.
Mallikarjun Kharge said the entire NEP is a "backward looking document". (FILE)
New Delhi:
Terming the new National Education Policy as a "backward looking document", senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday that education should be based on principles of the Constitution and not on ancient cultural values.
Raising the issue as a Zero Hour mention in Rajya Sabha, Mr Kharge, who was recently elected to the upper house, said the entire NEP is a "backward looking document" that is looking 2000 years back instead of planning and preparing our children for the future.
"Therefore the values of moral education in schools and higher education should be based on the principles of the Constitution and not on ancient cultural values," he added.
The NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century, which was announced 34 years after the previous National Policy on Education in 1986. The NEP-2020 is directed towards major reforms at both the school and higher education level, the government has said
Mr Kharge noted that a provision in the Constitution states that in state and state-aided institutions there should be no religious instructions.
According to Article 28 (1), no religious instructions shall be provided in any educational institutions wholly maintained out of the state fund, he said.
In cities, Mr Kharge said, children who have access to quality nursery education learn to read and write by the time they join class 1.
However, he said poor children in towns and villages will be at a disadvantage because there is no proper policy defined for training of Aanganwadi teachers. Poor children will start with a disadvantage of not having learnt for three years before joining class 1.
"Nearly 50 per cent of students drop out after Class 10. There is no plan that has been suggested to reduce this drop outs. It is estimated that 32.4 per cent of these student drop outs are Dalits, 25.7 per cent minorities and 16.4 per cent are tribals," Mr Kharge said.
Teachers are already burdened with several duties like elections, census and vaccinations etc. which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on teaching and it is impossible to improve the quality of education, the Congress leader said.
Mr Kharge said the focus should be on mathematics, science and english for providing opportunity of development to rural and backward areas.
"Indian culture will be learnt by students through their language and literature classes. Such kind of activism to promote a single culture of Sanskrit or Hindi by the government will only keep children from backward areas out of modern education," he said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa and SAD member Balwinder Singh Bhunder demanded that Punjabi language should be included in the list of official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Last week, the Union Cabinet approved a bill under which Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In special mentions, Rajmani Patel demanded establishment of a commonwealth sport centre at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, while Rakesh Sinha (BJP nominated) sought compulsory disaster management training in schools and colleges.
A divorcee mother who unwittingly dated a man who had prior convictions for child rape and murder returned home from work yesterday to find both her daughters knifed to death.
Police in Russia have launched a major manhunt for Vitaly Molchanov, 41, who went on the run after the killings of Yana and Elena Saprunova, aged 13 and eight.
One month ago divorcee mother Valentina Saprunova, 40, uprooted 1,600 miles with her daughters from her Siberian home to move into her new boyfriend's flat, convinced she had found true love.
She took a job at a local hospital in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.
She came home from work on Tuesday to find both girls 'literally shredded' by a knife.
Russian police are searching for 41-year-old Vitaly Molchanov (left and right) after he went on the run following the murder of Valentina Saprunova's two daughters
According to reports, Molchanov (pictured with the mother of his victims), 41, had prior convictions for child rape and murder and was released from a long prison sentence in 2010
Saprunova's daughter Yana is pictured at a younger age. Saprunova, 40, came home from work and found her daughters 'literally shredded' by a knife
Her lover was seen fleeing from the scene on a white bicycle.
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into a double child murder 'committed with extreme cruelty'.
The nurse had met Molchanov online via a dating app around six months ago, say Russian reports citing law enforcement.

In one posting in April, before they were together, he wrote: 'This is my girlfriend, this is very sad that we are in different cities, but I love her and we can solve all the other issues.'
But she was unaware of his past convictions for child rape and murder.
He had been released from prison in 2010 after serving a long sentence, say reports.
REN TV stated: 'Perhaps this tragedy would not have happened if Valentina, before going to live with this man with whom she had only talked on the Internet, knew an important thing: he had already served a sentence for … the rape and murder of a child.
Investigators can be seen working at the scene of the crime. Local media reported that Molchanov managed to keep his past convictions secret from Saprunova
'But Vitaly hid it from her.'
Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported: 'Vitaly carefully concealed his criminal past from his girlfriend.
'Otherwise, this woman, knowing the crimes for which her lover was sentenced, would in all probability not agree to uproot from the Omsk region to Rybinsk and with her two children to move in with him.'
Sources said that Molchanov had become angered and 'jealous' that her job involved 24 hour shifts from which she often came back late.
A neighbour said: 'This woman came to look for happiness in Rybinsk.
'I feel so sorry for her and the girls. He is a beast.
'He must be destroyed immediately.'
A meme posted in April by Molchanov, who works as an electrical cable crimper, appeared to predict the horror.
Pictured: A general view of the building where the two girls were found in Russia
It read: 'After a murder, police first of all check if the victim's spouse can be involved. And this is basically everything you need to know about this marriage.'
The man's neighbours also did not know about his earlier convictions.
The committee said: 'The most experienced investigators and criminologists from the Investigation Department are working at the scene.'
The region's most senior investigator was put in charge of the case.
A law enforcement video showed forensic specialists working at the flat where the girls were killed.

Barbados has announced its intention to remove the Queen as its head of state and become a republic by November, 2021.
A speech written by Prime Minister Mia Mottley quoted the Caribbean island nation's first premier Errol Barrow's warning against 'loitering on colonial premises'.
Reading the speech, Governor-General Dame Sandra Mason said: 'The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind. Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State.

'This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving.
'Hence, Barbados will take the next logical step toward full sovereignty and become a Republic by the time we celebrate our 55th Anniversary of Independence.'
The country gained its independence from Britain in 1966, though the Queen remains its constitutional monarch.

In 1998, a Barbados constitutional review commission recommended republican status, and in 2015 Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said 'we have to move from a monarchical system to a republican form of government in the very near future'.
Most Caribbean countries have kept formal links with the monarchy after achieving independence.
Barbados would join Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and Guyana if it proceeds with its plan to become a republic.

Jamaica has also flagged such a transition, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness saying it is a priority of his government, but has yet to achieve it.
Barbados took another step towards independence from the UK in 2003 when it replaced the London-based Judicial Committee of the Privy Council with the Caribbean Court of Justice, located in Trinidad and Tobago's Port of Spain, as its final appeals court.
Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur promoted the idea of a referendum on becoming a republic in 2005, however the vote was called off due to concerns raised by the Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Barbados: The country's colonial history
The Sugar Revolution, the introduction of sugar cane from Dutch Brazil, in the 1640s was highly lucrative but came at great social cost
Barbados was one of the oldest English settlements in the West Indies, being surpassed only by Saint Kitts.
The country's historical ties date back to the 17th century and involve settlement, post-colonialism and modern bilateral relations.
Since Barbados gained its independence in 1966, the nations have continued to share ties through the Commonwealth, with the Queen as Monarch.
In 1627, 80 Englishmen aboard the William and John landed on the Caribbean island and founded Jamestown (close to today’s Holetown), in the name of King James I.
The early settlers struggled to develop a profitable export crop and faced difficulties in maintaining supplies from Europe.
However, the Sugar Revolution, the introduction of sugar cane from Dutch Brazil, in the 1640s was highly lucrative and over the next decade more than two thirds of English emigres to the Americas went to Barbados.
But while this shift to sugar yielded huge profits, it came at a great social cost. Thousands of West African slaves were shipped across the Atlantic to work the plantations.
The sale of sugar, or white gold as the colonists called it, reaped huge profits because it was a scarce commodity in European markets.
Sugar continued as an integral part of the country's economy into the 19th century, while workers suffered from low wages and minimal social services.
Barbados became independent on November 30, 1966, during a time when the country's economy was expanding and diversifying.
In 2008, British exports to Barbados stood at £38.0 million, making it Britain's fourth-largest export market in the region.
In recent years a growing number of British nationals have been relocating to Barbados to live, with polls showing that British nationals make up 75–85 per cent of the Barbados second home market.

Catering to the ever-growing audience of sports enthusiasts, the BackBeat FIT 305 features a rugged build and design that is not too common at its price point. However, weak audio performance, and a couple of snags in the build area too, bring its overall appeal down.

Plantronics BackBeat FIT 305 detailed review
Due to the evolution of user behaviour and demands, a particular informal sub-category of earphones has made its presence increasingly felt in recent times. That category is of wireless sports earphones, designed and built to cater to a gym-going, fitness enthusiast audience that prioritises features like a good build, ruggedness, noise isolation over fidelity. The BackBeat FIT 305 is meant for that exact demographic through and through. How well does it satisfy its requirements? Let’s find out.
Design and Build
As always, this is where sports headphones have to truly shine. We’re not saying that audio doesn’t matter for them, however, if the build doesn’t suit active usage, they’re likely to be rejected right out of the box. It’s safe to say that the BackBeat FIT 305 is unlikely to suffer this fate due to its sports-oriented design and build.
The design is IPX5 rated and features P2i coating so you’re safe against sweat damage, rain and spills. The cable is a nylon braided piece, with reflective material weaved into it, making it easily identifiable at night. Due to the nature of the fabric, it also doesn’t cause as much friction against the skin as a rubber coating. We’re not entirely sure if it is due to the coating, but the earbuds on the FIT 305 are highly prone to attracting dust.
The control module is located a couple of inches below the right earbud, which felt like the perfect place for it to be except for when you start running. Make sure to use the included clip to keep the 305 in place. The only complaint with the module is that the buttons, despite the particular + and - shapes, are a bit hard to detect by touch alone. Perhaps raised platforms for all three buttons would have been a better choice.
Plantronics has made a weird choice on the 305 by making the buds themselves have integrated silicon ear tips and wings. While they’re quite robust, if you have the tendency to wear your earbuds out frequently, this could be an issue as it won’t be easy to replace it with similar buds for the 305. Additionally, due to the same reason, you do not have the option of not using the wings. Another problem with the FIT 305’s build is that residual noise from the wire brushing up against anything is carried straight to the ear. While it isn’t too apparent during music playback, it’s a bit too loud for us during other times.
The added clip is handy and essential during workouts if you wish to ignore the presence of the cable and the control module around your neck. While passive isolation isn’t great, it is not half bad either. Just make sure you get the right earbuds for your fit. We blame the odd design of the earbud sleeves. Also, don’t expect these to blend well in a work environment - these are evidently workout headphones with bright colours meant for the gym and the jogging tracks.
Performance
In the audio performance department, the BackBeat FIT 305 ticks certain unintentional boxes. In any sports-oriented headphones, the lows are expected to be the most formidable aspect of the sound signature. However, the FIT 305 doesn’t handle those well. The bass sounds muddy and flat, which is especially evident when you push the volume to higher levels. Listening to Uptown Funk from Bruno Mars, the ‘duh-doh’ loop in the background sounded too recessed.
The mids are handled quite well, which benefits vocals and hands-free performance. Adele’s vocals in Hello sounds powerful and clear. The metal instrument density of Selkies by Between the Buried and Me doesn’t cause the 305 any trouble either. Even in noisy environments like a public bus, the FIT 305 managed to block out most external sound during our experience.
Call quality on the FIT 305 is great, and you have the wideband-enabled mic to thank for that. In our usage, after a full charge of approximately 90 minutes, the headphones lasted a bit north of 7 hours, which is quite good considering that they weight a measly 14grams. We did not expect any disconnection even at 50 feet, so you’re well provided for in the range department as well.
Verdict
Wireless earphones aimed at the gym are a dime a dozen today. However, in that pile, to find something that hits the right balance of features, pricing, build quality and audio performance is also quite a task. No, the BackBeat FIT 305 doesn’t hit that balance, but it comes significantly close to doing so. If only its audio performance could match up to some of its more capable brethren, it would be a no brainer to recommend the FIT 305, thanks to its already great build quality and gym-friendly design. However, if that isn’t a big issue for you, the FIT 305 does actually provide great overall performance and at the current price of Rs. 3999/- online, is not a bad deal at all.

Updated : Sep 16, 2020, 10:51 IST
The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is likely to announce the order today with regards to Rhea Chakraborty's visit to the Hospital mortuary where Sushant Singh Rajput’s mortal remains were kept. The SHRC had reportedly issued a notice to the management of the Hospital and the Mumbai police with regards to Rhea getting access. She was there for nearly 45 minutes on June 15, stated reports. According to Times Now, the Mumbai police and the hospital are shifting blame on each other on allowing Rhea and the order is expected to indict one of them.

As per an order dated September 9, the Public Health Department of Maharashtra had discontinued oxygen supply to other states including Madhya Pradesh following which the state-run MY Hospital approached the court.
Responding to a writ petition, the Indore bench of High Court on Wednesday directed the Maharashtra government to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply to Madhya Pradesh.
As per an order dated September 9, the Public Health Department of Maharashtra had discontinued oxygen supply to other states including Madhya Pradesh following which the state-run MY Hospital approached the court.
The Advocate General Purushendra Kaurav on behalf of the state government informed the court that there cannot be any discrimination with Covid-19 patients of one state with those from the other. On the basis of this, the divisional bench of the Madhya Pradesh HC ordered the Maharashtra government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen to the state.
Last Wednesday, the Principal Secretary Health of Maharashtra, Pradeep Kumar Vyas had issued an order saying the oxygen produced in Maharashtra will be used for the state only.
Reacting to it, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called up his counterpart from Maharashtra and later told the media that Thackeray has assured him to look into the matter. We will be bridging the shortfall with the help from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, Chouhan had said that the state will ensure that oxygen supply increases to 150 tonnes by month-end.
The state government had also asked to produce oxygen from the existing 50-60% to 70-80% capacity to meet the growing demand amid surging cases of Covid-19 in the state.

Experienced coach Noel Wilson will join Owen Coyle's backroom staff at Jamshedpur FC as an assistant coach for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season alongside assistant coach Sandy Stewart and goalkeeping coach Ezequiel Gomez.
Wilson, who worked as the reserve team head coach in the previous season, led the team to some excellent performances in the 2nd Division I-League and various other tournaments.
On being appointed as the first team assistant coach, Wilson said: "It's a great privilege for me to work alongside a well-established coach like Owen Coyle. I will share all my knowledge and support with Owen to help the players in the best possible manner so that we can have a successful season in the ISL."

The 40-year-old began his career as a coach in 2013 and currently holds an AFC A License certificate. He worked with Roots Football Academy and South United FC in Bengaluru before joining Jamshedpur as the Reserve Team Head Coach.

Lenovo Z2 Plus 64GB detailed review
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is undoubtedly one of the most powerful mobile processors out there today. This SoC had already shown its prowess in the LG G5, HTC 10, OnePlus 3, Xiaomi Mi 5, LeEco Le Max 2, and basically every flagship phone available today. However, no one expected it on a sub-20k smartphone, but here we are with the Lenovo Z2 Plus.
It starts at a mere Rs. 18,000, and just the presence of the Snapdragon 820 makes it seem like a bargain. But is it? Let’s break it down.
Build and Design
The Lenovo Z2 Plus has a generic design, but with the metal and glass treatment. The candy-bar design works, but it doesn’t really give the phone a personality of its own. You may still find it attractive, but I think a Moto X Play, with its plastic body looked more original.
That said, the design is definitely functional. It has a small footprint, making it really ergonomic. That being said, the fiberglass back is a fingerprint magnet and catches scratches very easily. Lenovo does provide a cover in the box, though.
The build quality is good, and not as prone to bumps as you think. I don’t like how slippery the body is, though the cover makes up for it. Overall, the Z2 Plus has a functional design, which many would like, and I wouldn’t question it given the price.
Display and UI
The phone sports a 5-inch IPS display. It is adequately bright and has good legibility in all lighting conditions. To make the screen more likeable and ward off fingerprints, the pre-installed matte screen protector does a fantastic job. Before you roll your eyes at the resolution, consider that the 1080p screen actually helps battery life, and looks good enough on the 5-inch panel. It has a maximum brightness of 547 Lux.
The Z2 Plus runs on a custom ROM called ZUI 2.0 by Lenovo. It is based on Android Marshmallow and is a very light and non-intrusive for the most part. The only menu, which you will be using often is an iOS-like control centre, which requires some getting used to. The appearance is mostly like the Google Launcher and the UI is quite smooth.
The most interesting part, however, is the implementation of the fingerprint scanner. It can jump directly to the home screen when the screen is off. It’s not as fast as Pixel Imprint, but still fast enough and quite accurate. You can also set the button for tasks, like swiping left to right for switching apps, double tapping for camera or Google voice etc. Further, It's totally up to you whether you want to use a single button for Android navigation or opt for the on-screen keys. The UI is created in this way so you never have to reach for the top of the screen.
Performance: The new sub-20K champ
No other phone, except the now discounted LeEco Le Max2 comes even lose to the Lenovo Z2 Plus in terms of specs. The phone is an absolute beast where performance is concerned and kills the competition by a large margin. Even the similarly specced Le Max 2 is a little slower compared to this phone.
The lower 1080p resolution keeps performance to its optimum and even with demanding games on the screen, the temperatures never went above 40 degree celcius. However, the performance of this device is weak compared to the OnePlus 3, but then again, the OnePlus 3 costs Rs. 8,000 more than the Z2 Plus. Still, the performance of the Z2 Plus is quite smooth, no matter what you throw at it. Heavy gaming titles such as Need for Speed no limits, Hitman Sniper or Vainglory don't seem to slow down the phone either and I was able to switch between the three with utmost ease.
Call quality and reception on the phone is quite good as well. Even in areas where the connection was spotty, I never encountered a call drop. The bottom mounted single speaker is loud, but the audio does distort at higher volumes. Audio quality via the headphones on the other hand is quite crisp and clear.
Battery: A day’s worth
A small display with 1080p resolution and a large battery means good battery life, and that is exactly the case here. The 3500mAh battery on the Z2 Plus easily lasted me a work day, during the test period. On a full charge, the phone runs for about 7 to 7.5 hours on the PC Mark battery test. As on every phone, gaming depletes battery life, but even with an hour of gaming every day the Z2 Plus can withstand a full work day's worth of usage.
Camera: Could have been better
The only thing missing from the phone is a good camera. Don't get me wrong, this 13MP rear camera on the Z2 Plus is not bad. In fact, it is actually one of the top ten cameras in its category, but it is not its best suit. Images taken in normal lighting conditions have good colour reproduction and respectable dynamic range. However, as soon as the light starts to go dim, the images tend to show more noise.
The HDR mode does help but it takes a second or two to capture the image properly and a very steady hand. The camera also lets you shoot videos in 4K, but the lack of OIS (optical image stabilisation) and a slower autofocus during videos add up to a sub-optimal experience. On the other hand, the front facing camera is quite good and takes decent selfies even in low light.
Bottomline: Buy it!
The Lenovo Z2 Plus is hands down the best smartphone to buy under Rs. 20,000. It performs well, features a good display, has a functional design and a day’s worth of battery life. The only area where it lags behind is the camera performance, but all things considered, it is still recommendable. All in all, if you are investing on a 20k phone, get the Lenovo Z2 Plus.
