Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has named the one Indian youngser he "can't wait to see again" in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on September 19 with previous year's finalists, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings meeting each other in the season's opener. The two sides will play the curtain-raiser of the tournament in Abu Dhabi.

The 2020 season will be significant for many reasons - a major one being the return of a majority Indian cricketers amid the coronavirus pandemic. One of such players is Shubman Gill, the youngster who represents the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Aged 21, Gill is one of the key members of the franchise, and will bear significant responsibility in the upcoming season. Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has heaped praise on the youngster, adding that he is looking forward to watching him play.

"It’s always exciting to watch some of the incredible young talent that comes out of India during the IPL," Pietersen told Betway.

"One that I can’t wait to see again is Shubman Gill, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, the fourth-favourites to win this year’s competition.

"He is a young opening batsman who I thought was very unlucky to miss out on the India squad for the World Cup in England after a brilliant 2019 IPL. He averaged more than 30 as a 19-year-old during that competition. I think he’s definitely somebody that we will be watching on our television screens for a long time.

"He’s got all the shots. He can play classical cricket, but he has the ability to turn it on and hit sixes at will. He’s young, entertaining and I think he’s got a bright future."

Pietersen has played for a number of IPL sides including Delhi Capitals, and admitted that he wants the franchise to lift its maiden title this year.

"The Delhi Capitals are a favourite of mine. I had my best IPL years at Delhi," he added.

"I love the ownership structure, and I am still very close to them now. I also had some of my best innings with Delhi and enjoyed a great rapport with the fans of the franchise.

"I’d really love them to turn a corner and for everybody to fire this year. They’ve got Ricky Ponting as their coach, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada as their overseas bowlers, and some very exciting Indian talent on their books.

"I want them to win it."

A Quarter Of U.S. Gulf Of Mexico Output Offline As Hurricane Advances

More than a quarter of U.S. offshore Gulf of Mexico oil output was shut and export ports were closed on Tuesday as Hurricane Sally stalled just off the U.S. Gulf Coast, pelting the region with heavy rains.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 8:48 AM IST

HOUSTON: More than a quarter of U.S. offshore Gulf of Mexico oil output was shut and export ports were closed on Tuesday as Hurricane Sally stalled just off the U.S. Gulf Coast, pelting the region with heavy rains.

Sally weakened on Tuesday to a Category One hurricane with sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (140 kph), moving at a snail’s pace that threatened “historic” flooding from Mississippi to Florida, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in a late day update https://tinyurl.com/y66gwc4s.

The storm plowed through prime U.S. offshore production areas and was meandering on a path toward Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, sparing New Orleans and some larger Gulf Coast refineries from its winds and rain.

Royal Dutch Shell shut its Appomattox oil platform about 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, joining BP , Chevron Corp and Equinor in closing facilities less than one month after Hurricane Laura knocked about 1.5 million barrels per day of oil offline temporarily.

Nearly 500,000 bpd of offshore crude oil production and 28%, or 759 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), of natural gas output were shut in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Interior Department.

U.S. crude oil futures rose nearly 3% and gasoline futures climbed 2.3% on Tuesday on the hurricane-related oil production and refinery shut-ins despite demand losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The nation’s sole offshore terminal, the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), stopped loading tankers on Sunday, while ports from Biloxi, Mississippi, to Pensacola, Florida, were closed. Ports along the Mississippi River began to reopen late Tuesday with restrictions. The closings will cut roughly 307,000 bpd of crude and 411,000 bpd of refined products, according to Kpler data.

As of 10 p.m. CDT (0300 GMT) on Tuesday, Sally was about 65 miles (105 km) south of Mobile, Alabama, and crawling toward the northwest at 2 mph (3 kph). The crawling advance threatened to inundate the region.

Refiners in the region have wound down operations. Phillips 66 shut its Alliance oil refinery, which processes 255,600 bpd at a site along the Mississippi River on the coast of Louisiana.

Shell cut production to minimum rates on Monday at its 227,400-bpd Norco, Louisiana, refinery, but planned to keep a Mobile, Alabama, chemical and refinery plant operating with a skeleton crew.

Murphy Oil Corp said it was beginning to restore production at its eastern-most Gulf of Mexico oil platforms, and oil-giant Equinor said it expected to return workers to its Titan platform on Thursday.

Golf: History A Red Flag For In-form Johnson At U.S. Open

Form has Dustin Johnson as the hot favourite to be holding the U.S. Open trophy on Sunday but history is a major red flag for the bighitting world number one.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 7:22 AM IST

Form has Dustin Johnson as the hot favourite to be holding the U.S. Open trophy on Sunday but history is a major red flag for the big-hitting world number one.

Having won three tournaments, the FedExCup and the $15 million payday that goes with that title, it is hard to think 2020 could get any better for Johnson.

A major victory, however, would put a cherry on top of a campaign that has already seen the 36-year-old American land PGA Tour Player of the Year honours.

Johnson rolls into Winged Foot Golf Club as the man to beat riding a spectacular run of form that saw him post two wins and two runner-up finishes in his last four starts.

Mr Consistency, Johnson has won at least one event every year since joining the PGA Tour in 2008 but in those 13 seasons has claimed a single major victory.

Johnson has arrived at many majors as the man to beat but only once in 43 starts — the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club — walked away with the trophy.

Four-times he has held or shared the 54-hole lead going into the final round of a major, including last month’s PGA Championship, and was never able to close the deal.

“I’m playing well,” said Johnson, who will tee off in Thursday’s opening round alongside two other big-hitters Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in the game but I’m not putting any extra expectations.

“I expect to play well every week.

“But it’s one of those golf courses where it’s very difficult and you need to be spot-on if you want to play well.”

FEROCIOUS LAYOUT

Scheduled for June before COVID-19 forced a reshuffling of the golf calendar, the U.S. Open returns to the ferocious Mamaroneck, N.Y. layout for the first time since 2006 when Australian Geoff Ogilvy hoisted the trophy.

The U.S. Open is branded as golf’s toughest test and Winged Foot fits the bill, requiring accuracy off the tee and a surgeon’s delicate touch on treacherous greens.

It is the venue where Tiger Woods missed his first cut at a major and Phil Mickelson endured perhaps the most gut-wrenching, of his record six runner-up U.S. Open finishes.

Tied for the lead going into the final round and needing only a par to take the title, Mickelson double-bogeyed the 18th to gift victory to Ogilvy.

Woods and Mickelson are back at Winged Foot but the one-time favourites will be long shots to add to their collections of major titles.

Chasing a 16th career major, Woods’s play has been erratic since the COVID-19 restart and he has managed just one top 40 result, a tie for 37th at the PGA Championship.

The 44-year-old’s form has been even more spotty coming into the U.S. Open with a tie for 58th at the Northern Trust and 51st at the BMW Championship.

For Mickelson, teeing it up at his 29th U.S. Open, it represents one more shot at completing golf’s career grand slam by adding the one major title that has cruelly eluded him.

Having just become a first time father, Rory McIlroy’s mind has been elsewhere and the Northern Irishman’s play has reflected that with only one top 10 result in his last six starts.

But following the birth of his daughter Poppy his focus was back as he finished in a tie for eighth at the Tour Championship, providing the former world number one with a jolt of confidence heading to Winged Foot.

Big-hitting Spaniard Jon Rahm, who briefly held the number one ranking this year, has a pair of wins since the restart plus the muscle to get around Winged Foot and could be ready to claim his first major success.

Also not to be overlooked is Justin Thomas, a three-time winner this season coming off a runner-up finish at the Tour Championship.

Trump was defensive but resisted agitation as he was pressed on his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and why he doesn't more aggressively promote the use of masks to reduce the spread of the disease.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 11:19 AM IST

Fielding compelling questions about voters’ real-world problems, President Donald Trump denied during a televised town hall that he had played down the threat of the coronavirus earlier this year, although there is an audio recording of him stating he did just that.

Trump, in what could well be a preview of his performance in the presidential debates less than two weeks away, cast doubt on the widely accepted scientific conclusions of his own administration strongly urging the use of face coverings and seemed to bat away the suggestion that the nation has racial inequities.

“Well, I hope there’s not a race problem,” Trump said Tuesday when asked about his campaign rhetoric seeming to ignore the historical injustices carried out against Black Americans.

Face-to-face with everyday voters for the first time in months, Trump was defensive but resisted agitation as he was pressed on his administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and why he doesn't more aggressively promote the use of masks to reduce the spread of the disease.

“There are people that don’t think masks are good,” Trump said, though his own Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly urges their use.

The event, hosted by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, was a warmup of sorts before Trump faces Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the first presidential debate on Sept. 29. Taped at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, it featured Trump taking questions from an audience of just 21 voters to comply with state and local coronavirus regulations.

Trump sought to counter his admission to journalist Bob Woodward that he was deliberately “playing it down” when discussing the threat of COVID-19 to Americans earlier this year. Despite audio of his comments being released, Trump said: “Yeah, well, I didn’t downplay it. I actually, in many ways, I up-played it, in terms of action."

“My action was very strong,” Trump added. “I’m not looking to be dishonest. I don’t want people to panic.”

Trump also insisted he was not wrong when he praised China's response to the virus in January and February, saying he trusted Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader. “He told me that it was under control, that everything was and it turned out to be not true,” Trump said,

Trump also suggested the virus would disappear without a vaccine, claiming the nation would develop a herd immunity with time, but he didn't mention the lives that would be lost along the way.

“It’s going to be herd-developed, and that’s going to happen. That will all happen,” Trump said. "But with a vaccine, I think it will go away very quickly."

The questions from uncommitted voters were pointed and poignant: a diabetic man who said he felt he’d been thrown “under the bus” by mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic; a Black woman with a disease that left her uninsurable until the Obama health care law came along who is worried that she could lose coverage again; a Black pastor who questioned Trump’s campaign motto to “Make America Great Again.”

“When has America been great for African Americans in the ghetto of America?” the pastor asked.

Asked about what he was doing to address protests against racial injustice, Trump lamented a “lack of respect” and the absence of “retribution” for those who clash with or carry out attacks against police officers. Trump on Sunday called for the death penalty for the individual who shot and critically injured two Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies over the weekend.

Trump has been unusually mum on his debate preparations ahead of the first debate, set to take place in Cleveland. On Tuesday, he told Fox News that he believes his day job is the best practice for his three scheduled showdowns with Biden.

“Well, I sort of prepare every day by just doing what I’m doing,” Trump said. He noted that he had been in California on Monday and had been to other states before that to make the point that he’s getting out and about more than Biden.

One person likely to study the replay: Biden. Returning from a long day of campaigning in Florida, Biden said at his plane that he was preparing for the debates mostly by going back through what Trump has said in the past. But he suggested he had yet to initiate mock debates, saying he was unaware who would play the role of Trump in his preparations.

Trump, in the Fox interview, lowered expectations for his Democratic opponent's performance, judging Biden “a disaster” and “grossly incompetent” in the primary debates. He assessed Biden as “OK” and “fine” in his final one-on-one debate with Bernie Sanders before clinching the nomination.

Trump's rhetoric on Biden marked a departure from the traditional efforts by candidates to talk up their rivals' preparation for televised debates, in hopes of setting an unattainably high bar for their performance.

The second of the three scheduled debates, set to be held in Miami on Oct. 15, will feature a similar “town meeting” style.

Biden is to have his own opportunity to hone his skills taking questions from voters on Thursday, when he participates in a televised town hall hosted by CNN.

The visit to Pennsylvania is Trump’s second to the battleground state in the last week, after he attended a Sept. 11 memorial event in Shanksville on Friday.

National Education Policy Backward Looking Document: Mallikarjun Kharge In Rajya Sabha

"National Education Policy Backward Looking Document": Mallikarjun Kharge

The NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century, which was announced 34 years after the previous National Policy on Education in 1986.

'National Education Policy Backward Looking Document': Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi:

Terming the new National Education Policy as a "backward looking document", senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday that education should be based on principles of the Constitution and not on ancient cultural values.

Raising the issue as a Zero Hour mention in Rajya Sabha, Mr Kharge, who was recently elected to the upper house, said the entire NEP is a "backward looking document" that is looking 2000 years back instead of planning and preparing our children for the future.

"Therefore the values of moral education in schools and higher education should be based on the principles of the Constitution and not on ancient cultural values," he added.

The NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century, which was announced 34 years after the previous National Policy on Education in 1986. The NEP-2020 is directed towards major reforms at both the school and higher education level, the government has said

Mr Kharge noted that a provision in the Constitution states that in state and state-aided institutions there should be no religious instructions.

According to Article 28 (1), no religious instructions shall be provided in any educational institutions wholly maintained out of the state fund, he said.

In cities, Mr Kharge said, children who have access to quality nursery education learn to read and write by the time they join class 1.

However, he said poor children in towns and villages will be at a disadvantage because there is no proper policy defined for training of Aanganwadi teachers. Poor children will start with a disadvantage of not having learnt for three years before joining class 1.

"Nearly 50 per cent of students drop out after Class 10. There is no plan that has been suggested to reduce this drop outs. It is estimated that 32.4 per cent of these student drop outs are Dalits, 25.7 per cent minorities and 16.4 per cent are tribals," Mr Kharge said.

Teachers are already burdened with several duties like elections, census and vaccinations etc. which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on teaching and it is impossible to improve the quality of education, the Congress leader said.

Mr Kharge said the focus should be on mathematics, science and english for providing opportunity of development to rural and backward areas.

"Indian culture will be learnt by students through their language and literature classes. Such kind of activism to promote a single culture of Sanskrit or Hindi by the government will only keep children from backward areas out of modern education," he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa and SAD member Balwinder Singh Bhunder demanded that Punjabi language should be included in the list of official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Last week, the Union Cabinet approved a bill under which Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In special mentions, Rajmani Patel demanded establishment of a commonwealth sport centre at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, while Rakesh Sinha (BJP nominated) sought compulsory disaster management training in schools and colleges.

Amar Patnaik of the BJD wanted formulation of a central sector scheme for the community of weavers.

Divorcee mother who unwittingly dated a paedophile child-killer returns home from work to find her daughters aged 13 and eight knifed to death

  • Valentina Saprunova, 40, began speaking online with Vitaly Molchanov, 41
  • She uprooted her family to move to the city of Rybinsk with him a month ago
  • She returned home Tuesday to find both daughters 'literally shredded' by a knife
  • Molchanov had prior convictions for child rape and murder and was released from a long prison sentence in 2010

A divorcee mother who unwittingly dated a man who had prior convictions for child rape and murder returned home from work yesterday to find both her daughters knifed to death.

Police in Russia have launched a major manhunt for Vitaly Molchanov, 41, who went on the run after the killings of Yana and Elena Saprunova, aged 13 and eight.

One month ago divorcee mother Valentina Saprunova, 40, uprooted 1,600 miles with her daughters from her Siberian home to move into her new boyfriend's flat, convinced she had found true love.

She took a job at a local hospital in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.

She came home from work on Tuesday to find both girls 'literally shredded' by a knife.

Her lover was seen fleeing from the scene on a white bicycle.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into a double child murder 'committed with extreme cruelty'.

The nurse had met Molchanov online via a dating app around six months ago, say Russian reports citing law enforcement.

In one posting in April, before they were together, he wrote: 'This is my girlfriend, this is very sad that we are in different cities, but I love her and we can solve all the other issues.'

But she was unaware of his past convictions for child rape and murder.

He had been released from prison in 2010 after serving a long sentence, say reports.

REN TV stated: 'Perhaps this tragedy would not have happened if Valentina, before going to live with this man with whom she had only talked on the Internet, knew an important thing: he had already served a sentence for … the rape and murder of a child.

Investigators can be seen working at the scene of the crime. Local media reported that Molchanov managed to keep his past convictions secret from Saprunova

Investigators can be seen working at the scene of the crime. Local media reported that Molchanov managed to keep his past convictions secret from Saprunova

'But Vitaly hid it from her.'

Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported: 'Vitaly carefully concealed his criminal past from his girlfriend.

'Otherwise, this woman, knowing the crimes for which her lover was sentenced, would in all probability not agree to uproot from the Omsk region to Rybinsk and with her two children to move in with him.'

Sources said that Molchanov had become angered and 'jealous' that her job involved 24 hour shifts from which she often came back late.

A neighbour said: 'This woman came to look for happiness in Rybinsk.

'I feel so sorry for her and the girls. He is a beast.

'He must be destroyed immediately.'

A meme posted in April by Molchanov, who works as an electrical cable crimper, appeared to predict the horror.

It read: 'After a murder, police first of all check if the victim's spouse can be involved. And this is basically everything you need to know about this marriage.'

The man's neighbours also did not know about his earlier convictions.

The committee said: 'The most experienced investigators and criminologists from the Investigation Department are working at the scene.'

The region's most senior investigator was put in charge of the case.

A law enforcement video showed forensic specialists working at the flat where the girls were killed.

Barbados says it will remove the Queen as head of state next year and 'fully leave our colonial past behind'

  • PM Mia Mottley said Barbados would be a republic by November 2021
  • 'Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State,' the LSE graduate said
  • Barbados has had a constitutional monarchy since its independence in 1966

Barbados has announced its intention to remove the Queen as its head of state and become a republic by November, 2021.

A speech written by Prime Minister Mia Mottley quoted the Caribbean island nation's first premier Errol Barrow's warning against 'loitering on colonial premises'.

Reading the speech, Governor-General Dame Sandra Mason said: 'The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind. Barbadians want a Barbadian Head of State.

'This is the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of achieving.

'Hence, Barbados will take the next logical step toward full sovereignty and become a Republic by the time we celebrate our 55th Anniversary of Independence.'

The country gained its independence from Britain in 1966, though the Queen remains its constitutional monarch.

In 1998, a Barbados constitutional review commission recommended republican status, and in 2015 Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said 'we have to move from a monarchical system to a republican form of government in the very near future'.

Most Caribbean countries have kept formal links with the monarchy after achieving independence.

Barbados would join Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and Guyana if it proceeds with its plan to become a republic.

Jamaica has also flagged such a transition, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness saying it is a priority of his government, but has yet to achieve it.

Barbados took another step towards independence from the UK in 2003 when it replaced the London-based Judicial Committee of the Privy Council with the Caribbean Court of Justice, located in Trinidad and Tobago's Port of Spain, as its final appeals court.

Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur promoted the idea of a referendum on becoming a republic in 2005, however the vote was called off due to concerns raised by the Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Barbados: The country's colonial history

The Sugar Revolution, the introduction of sugar cane from Dutch Brazil, in the 1640s was highly lucrative but came at great social cost

The Sugar Revolution, the introduction of sugar cane from Dutch Brazil, in the 1640s was highly lucrative but came at great social cost

Barbados was one of the oldest English settlements in the West Indies, being surpassed only by Saint Kitts.

The country's historical ties date back to the 17th century and involve settlement, post-colonialism and modern bilateral relations.

Since Barbados gained its independence in 1966, the nations have continued to share ties through the Commonwealth, with the Queen as Monarch.

In 1627, 80 Englishmen aboard the William and John landed on the Caribbean island and founded Jamestown (close to today’s Holetown), in the name of King James I.

The early settlers struggled to develop a profitable export crop and faced difficulties in maintaining supplies from Europe.

However, the Sugar Revolution, the introduction of sugar cane from Dutch Brazil, in the 1640s was highly lucrative and over the next decade more than two thirds of English emigres to the Americas went to Barbados.

But while this shift to sugar yielded huge profits, it came at a great social cost. Thousands of West African slaves were shipped across the Atlantic to work the plantations.

The sale of sugar, or white gold as the colonists called it, reaped huge profits because it was a scarce commodity in European markets.

Sugar continued as an integral part of the country's economy into the 19th century, while workers suffered from low wages and minimal social services.

Barbados became independent on November 30, 1966, during a time when the country's economy was expanding and diversifying.

In 2008, British exports to Barbados stood at £38.0 million, making it Britain's fourth-largest export market in the region.

In recent years a growing number of British nationals have been relocating to Barbados to live, with polls showing that British nationals make up 75–85 per cent of the Barbados second home market.

Verdict

Catering to the ever-growing audience of sports enthusiasts, the BackBeat FIT 305 features a rugged build and design that is not too common at its price point. However, weak audio performance, and a couple of snags in the build area too, bring its overall appeal down.

Plantronics BackBeat FIT 305 detailed review

Due to the evolution of user behaviour and demands, a particular informal sub-category of earphones has made its presence increasingly felt in recent times. That category is of wireless sports earphones, designed and built to cater to a gym-going, fitness enthusiast audience that prioritises features like a good build, ruggedness, noise isolation over fidelity. The BackBeat FIT 305 is meant for that exact demographic through and through. How well does it satisfy its requirements? Let’s find out.

Design and Build

As always, this is where sports headphones have to truly shine. We’re not saying that audio doesn’t matter for them, however, if the build doesn’t suit active usage, they’re likely to be rejected right out of the box. It’s safe to say that the BackBeat FIT 305 is unlikely to suffer this fate due to its sports-oriented design and build.

The design is IPX5 rated and features P2i coating so you’re safe against sweat damage, rain and spills. The cable is a nylon braided piece, with reflective material weaved into it, making it easily identifiable at night. Due to the nature of the fabric, it also doesn’t cause as much friction against the skin as a rubber coating. We’re not entirely sure if it is due to the coating, but the earbuds on the FIT 305 are highly prone to attracting dust.

The control module is located a couple of inches below the right earbud, which felt like the perfect place for it to be except for when you start running. Make sure to use the included clip to keep the 305 in place. The only complaint with the module is that the buttons, despite the particular + and - shapes, are a bit hard to detect by touch alone. Perhaps raised platforms for all three buttons would have been a better choice.

Plantronics has made a weird choice on the 305 by making the buds themselves have integrated silicon ear tips and wings. While they’re quite robust, if you have the tendency to wear your earbuds out frequently, this could be an issue as it won’t be easy to replace it with similar buds for the 305. Additionally, due to the same reason, you do not have the option of not using the wings. Another problem with the FIT 305’s build is that residual noise from the wire brushing up against anything is carried straight to the ear. While it isn’t too apparent during music playback, it’s a bit too loud for us during other times.

The added clip is handy and essential during workouts if you wish to ignore the presence of the cable and the control module around your neck. While passive isolation isn’t great, it is not half bad either. Just make sure you get the right earbuds for your fit. We blame the odd design of the earbud sleeves. Also, don’t expect these to blend well in a work environment - these are evidently workout headphones with bright colours meant for the gym and the jogging tracks.

Performance

In the audio performance department, the BackBeat FIT 305 ticks certain unintentional boxes. In any sports-oriented headphones, the lows are expected to be the most formidable aspect of the sound signature. However, the FIT 305 doesn’t handle those well. The bass sounds muddy and flat, which is especially evident when you push the volume to higher levels. Listening to Uptown Funk from Bruno Mars, the ‘duh-doh’ loop in the background sounded too recessed.

The mids are handled quite well, which benefits vocals and hands-free performance. Adele’s vocals in Hello sounds powerful and clear. The metal instrument density of Selkies by Between the Buried and Me doesn’t cause the 305 any trouble either. Even in noisy environments like a public bus, the FIT 305 managed to block out most external sound during our experience.

Call quality on the FIT 305 is great, and you have the wideband-enabled mic to thank for that. In our usage, after a full charge of approximately 90 minutes, the headphones lasted a bit north of 7 hours, which is quite good considering that they weight a measly 14grams. We did not expect any disconnection even at 50 feet, so you’re well provided for in the range department as well.

Verdict

Wireless earphones aimed at the gym are a dime a dozen today. However, in that pile, to find something that hits the right balance of features, pricing, build quality and audio performance is also quite a task. No, the BackBeat FIT 305 doesn’t hit that balance, but it comes significantly close to doing so. If only its audio performance could match up to some of its more capable brethren, it would be a no brainer to recommend the FIT 305, thanks to its already great build quality and gym-friendly design. However, if that isn’t a big issue for you, the FIT 305 does actually provide great overall performance and at the current price of Rs. 3999/- online, is not a bad deal at all.
