We Have Had Big Stars Being Caught But Rhea Chakraborty's Media Trial Very Shocking: Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee Pannu talked about why she felt compelled to speaking up for Rhea Chakraborty, who is accused of abetting the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

  • Last Updated: September 16, 2020, 11:45 AM IST

Actor Taapsee Pannu feels that many have branded Rhea Chakraborty "the culprit" behind Sushant Singh Rajput’s death even before the court can pass its judgement. Taapsee has been vocal about the "unfair" treatment meted out to Rhea by the press and social media users.

In an interview with India Today, Taapsee talked about why she felt compelled to speaking up for Rhea Chakraborty, who is accused of abetting the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and supporting Jaya Bachchan's Parliament speech.

"In this particular case, as I have always maintained, I really didn’t know her at all. I still don’t know her. The only problem I had was the kind of unfair trial that was happening and the kind of judgement that was passed on her. It’s not that before we haven’t had criminals from other industries or people being caught for doing something wrong from other industries. Even in our industry, for that matter. We have had a couple of big stars being caught but the way this girl went through the media trial and physical harassment at some places, it was something very shocking and something I couldn’t hold back. I had to speak up without even knowing anything about her," Taapsee said.

“There are people who support this point of view and there are people who probably have just written her off in their mind before the court or the investigative agencies have given their verdict. They want to force this opinion in everyone’s head. So, I think that is wrong.”

Taapsee also shared her thoughts on veteran actor and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan’s speech in the Parliament on Bollywood’s image being "tarnished." Jaya said in the Parliament on Tuesday, “Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry... I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry.”

"Hats off to madam. She has just hit the nail on the head. What we couldn't put in words, she has said each and every words so precisely with facts," Taapsee said.

China’s PLA Builds up Presence Near Arunachal Pradesh Border, India Strengthens Vigilance

Government sources said PLA troop movement has been seen opposite Arunachal Pradesh's Asaphila and Fishtail-2 sectors, nearly 20 km from the Indian territory.

India has moved its troops to the eastern part of the border with China in Ladakh after noticing Chinese troop movement at least two locations across the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh.

Government sources told CNN-News18 the People’s Liberation Army has built ups its presence opposite Arunachal Pradesh's Asaphila and Fishtail-2 sectors, nearly 20 km from the Indian territory.

Officials said that Indian troops are fully prepared to thwart any attempts by China to make incursions and the forces have strengthened vigilance all along the LAC, from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.

News agency Reuters had recently reported that India had sent additional troops to the eastern district of Anjaw in Arunachal Pradesh, which China also claims as its territory, raising the prospect of a wider face-off.

“The military presence has surely increased, but as far as incursions are concerned, there are no verified reports as such,” Ayushi Sudan, Anjaw's chief civil servant, had told Reuers, adding that several Indian army battalions were stationed there.

Arunachal Pradesh, which China calls South Tibet, was at the centre of a full-scale border war between India and China in 1962, and security analysts have warned that it could become a flash-point again.

Earlier this month, China’s PLA had allegedly kidnapped five Indian villagers from Arunachal Pradesh. The five were reportedly taken away by a team of the PLA from a jungle where they were hunting.

China also asserted that they do not recognise Arunachal Pradesh to be Indian territory.

“China’s position on the eastern section of the China and India boundary and China’s southern Tibet is consistent and clear,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a press briefing. “We have never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established on the Chinese territory,” he said.

The five Indian men were returned to India after 12 days. The army said three such incidents, including the latest one, had taken place this year in Upper Subansiri and West Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh and that all have been brought back home.

Defending Champion Egan Bernal Withdraws From Tour de France

Last year's winner Egan Bernal has withdrawn from the Tour de France, his Ineos team said on Wednesday, after the young Colombian fell out of contention and complained of back trouble.

Last year's winner Egan Bernal has withdrawn from the Tour de France, his Ineos team said on Wednesday, after the young Colombian fell out of contention and complained of back trouble. The Colombian, 23, saw his title defence effectively extinguished on Sunday, the first major mountain stage, when he was more than eight minutes off the pace. "This is obviously not how I wanted my Tour de France to end, but I agree that it is the right decision for me in the circumstances," Bernal said in a team statement. Jumbo rider Primoz Roglic leads the Tour from fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar ahead of Wednesday's Stage 17. Bernal was a distant 16th in the standings.

"We have taken this decision with Egan's best interests at heart," said Ineos team principal Dave Brailsford.

"Egan is a true champion who loves to race, but he is also a young rider, with many Tours ahead of him and at this point, on balance, we feel it is wiser for him to stop racing."

Bernal's withdrawal almost certainly ends a sequence of five straight Tour de France victories for Ineos and its previous incarnation, Team Sky. Carapaz, Ineos's best-placed rider, is 14th in the standings, 17 minutes behind Roglic.

The British outfit has won cycling's biggest prize in seven of the last eight editions, interrupted only by Vincenzo Nibali's victory for Astana in 2014.

Ineos decided to drop four-time winner Chris Froome and 2018 champion Geraint Thomas for this year's race, a decision that left the team with less clout and Bernal exposed.

Questions have also been raised about Ineos's training and preparations -- usually meticulous -- as Bernal and his co-captain, Carapaz, have been run ragged.

It had already looked ominous for Bernal two weeks before the Tour, when he was forced out of the Criterium du Dauphine with a back problem.

On Sunday, he collapsed on the last of three massive mountain climbs on Stage 15, the defining moment of the race so far.

"I lost three years of my life on that climb, I gave it everything. But I just couldn't keep up," Bernal said after the stage.

Delhi Riots: 15 Named In 17,500-Page Chargesheet Filed By Police

Delhi Riots Case: The Delhi Police, which reports to the central government, is also under scrutiny for its role during the clashes.

All IndiaEdited by Divyanshu Dutta RoyUpdated: September 16, 2020 5:11 pm IST

Delhi riots in Feburary this year left 53 dead, 200 injured and hundreds homeless.

        New Delhi:

Fifteen people have been named by the police in a vast chargesheet filed over the Delhi riots that raged through the capital city in February this year, leaving more than 50 people dead and property worth crores damaged.

The 17,500-page filing in two steel trunks included more than 2,600 pages detailing the charges against the accused and thousands of pages of annexures. Charges include those under the tough anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The police also said that their investigation in the case is ongoing and it expects to file a supplementary chargesheet against the accused who have not been named so far.

"These conspirators were in direct touch with the foot soldiers that resulted in the riots in North East Delhi in February," the police told the court, adding two WhatsApp groups were used to engineer the riots in Seelampur and Jafrabad that saw some of the worst violence.

"Conspirators planned the riots while middle ring of leaders at the area level executed the plan through the foot soldiers," the police said.

Communal violence over the centre's controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) had erupted in Delhi between groups supporting and opposing the law that promised citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from three neighbouring countries, widely seen as discriminatory.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meetings with US President Donald Trump just a few kilometres away, parts of the city descended into violence that saw widespread clashes, arson and stone-throwing leaving 53 dead, at least 200 injured and hundreds homeless.

The Delhi Police, which reports to the central government and whose role during the riots is also under scrutiny, has been criticised for arresting only members linked to one side of the clash while contesting reports that claimed that policemen were seen actively helping the other side during the riots.

Sandalwood Drug Case: Vivek Oberoi's Brother-in-Law Aditya Alva Absconding After Ragini Dwivedi's Arrest, Raids Conducted at Properties

Aditya Alva, brother-in-law of Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, has been absconding ever since the police carried out raids on Sandalwood star Ragini Dwivedi's residence in relation to drugs probe.

Intensifying its investigation into the Sandalwood drug case, the Central Crime Bureau of the Bengaluru City Police on Tuesday conducted raids on properties owned by Aditya Alva, brother-in-law of Bollywood Star, Vivek Oberoi and son of the late former minister, Jeevraj Alva.

Aditya Alva has been absconding ever since the police carried out raids on Sandalwood star Ragini Dwivedi's residence. She was on Monday remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and is in the Parappana Agrahara prisons on the outskirts of the city.

The police said they are conducting raids on resorts owned by Aditya, where he used to allegedly organise weekend parties. Many film stars of the Kannada film industry are said to have taken part in these parties.

According to the CCB, Aditya has named the fifth accused in this case. He hails from highly influential family background. His late father, Jeevaraj Alva was considered to be one of the most powerful ministers and leaders of his time. He was regarded as the right-hand man of the late Chief Minister, Ramakrishna Hegde.

The late Jeevraj Alva was known for his organising skills, besides his fund mobilisation skills, which are still recalled by his contemporaries from the erstwhile Janata Parivar. He was the man Friday of the Janata Parivar in those days.

Aditya's mother, Nandini Alva too is a noted figure in the state. She is a renowned dancer and event organiser. She was one of the founding members of the Bengaluru Habba (Bengaluru Fest), which was launched during the then Chief Minister, S. M. Krishna's tenure between 1999-2004. This helped Bengaluru to showcase its cultural talent too.

Besides this, Aditya is also the brother-in-law of Bollywood star, Vivek Oberoi.
