AMBALA: The people who often travel between Ambala and Chandigarh have felt relief after the resumption of direct bus service between two stations, as Haryana roadways started four buses on Wednesday, after clearance from the Union Territory (UT) administration.
As per the restrictions imposed by the UT administration, only 30 passengers are allowed to sit in a bus entering the city said a roadways official at Ambala.
An official of Haryana roadways told the bus service could be increased in the coming time depending on the increase in the number of passengers and at this moment, only four buses have been deployed on the Ambala-Chandigarh route from Ambala Cantt bus stand.
Before this service, for traveling to Chandigarh, the people from Ambala were taking the bus towards Panchkula and then entered Chandigarh either by intercity bus services or other transport means like auto-rickshaw and this was wasting their time and money.
A passenger who boarded the first bus towards Chandigarh from Ambala said, “I am coming from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh and happy that I got a direct bus to Chandigarh from Ambala. Earlier, I had to change several buses to reach Chandigarh and it wasted a lot of time.”
Another passenger traveling to Chandigarh said, “It was a problem to directly reach Chandigarh through the bus as we had to first take a bus towards Panchkula and then take another bus to Chandigarh. This resumption of bus service has given relief.”
Assistant in-charge of Ambala Cantt bus stand Baljinder Singh told, “Four buses will run for Chandigarh from Ambala Cantt per day and the number could be increased if an increase is recorded in passenger demand. Only 30 passengers are allowed to sit on one bus towards Chandigarh. The buses of other depots of Haryana are also coming to Ambala Cantt and going towards Chandigarh now.”
