National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, conducted a separate entrance examination NLAT-2020 after CLAT-2020 was further postponed to September 28. In a notification published on the official website, NLSIU notified that it will not accept the scores of CLAT 2020 for admission to academic year 2020-21. The candidates who wish to take admission to Undergraduate BA LL.B (Hons) programme offered by the NLSIU have to appear in the newly established NLAT UG 2020 Entrance Examination.

Later, a former vice chancellor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, and a student's parent have moved the Supreme Court challenging a notice to hold separate entrance exam for the varsity, terming it "a manifestly arbitrary and illegal decision".

On September 11, the Supreme Court gave the green signal to NLSIU, Bengaluru, to conduct separate exam NLAT-2020 but asked it not to announce the results till the pendency of the plea. The top court will hear the matter today, September 16, 2020.
