Mumbai, Sep 16: The Bombay High Court issued a notice to the Union government over a petition filed by an NGO seeking that the media be restrained from reporting on issues related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and subsequent probe into the case.

Explained: What is physiological autopsy and why will CBI use it in Sushant Singh case

This is the third such plea filed before the Bombay High Court.

A bench led by Chief Justice Dipankar Datta is already hearing two pleas, one filed by Pune-based filmmaker Nilesh Navlakha and two others, and another by eight former police officials from the state.

Sushant Singh Rajput drug probe: 3 accused in NCB custody till Sep 16

The court has now tagged all the three pleas together for a joint hearing on October 8.

The latest plea, filed by NGO 'In Pursuit of Justice', sought that the court widen the scope of the Contempt of the Court Act to include any obstructions that could hamper the administration of justice from the time an FIR is registered in a case.

It also sought that the "media be restrained from publishing or broadcasting" anything related to the case till the plea is decided finally by the high court.

"The recent spate of media reporting in the case of the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the extent of media frenzy concerning all issues and non-issues involving the incident is quite disturbing," the plea said.

"It has given rise to an urgent need of finding an acceptable constitutional balance between free press and administration of justice," it said.

The plea also said the press has published Rajputs personal chats, statements of accused and hospital staff, and it has already "tried and convicted" the accused persons, called them names such as "murderer, gold digger and abettor".

Such reportage has transgressed rights of the parties concerned and is likely to prejudice the probe into the case, it said.

The court issued a notice to the Centre over the plea and said, "We'll hear all related matters together.

BRADENTON, Fla.: Shey Peddy made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Phoenix Mercury an 85-84 victory over the defending WNBA champion Washington Mystics on Tuesday night in the first round of the playoffs.

Fifth-seeded Phoenix moves on to play No. 4 seed Minnesota on Thursday in the second round.

For me to hit that shot against them is a fairy tale moment, said Peddy, who was cut by the Mystics last month. I dont think it can get any better than that.

Leilani Mitchell went 1 of 2 from the free-throw line with 5.8 seconds remaining to give Washington an 84-82 lead. After a timeout, Diana Taurasi inbounded it to Skylar Diggins-Smith, who drove the lane and lofted a pass over the defense across the court to the corner. Peddy pump-faked it to get her defender in the air and calmly beat the buzzer.

Shell never forget that. The girls are loving on her, Mercury coach Sandy Brondello said. Shes a veteran, 31 years of age. Took the moment and made the shot. She had to take the shot. It’s a really great story. She’s a humble person and I love having her around.

Washington brought Peddy in last year after cutting her in training camp when two of the Mystics left to play overseas. She was on the roster as a 30-year-old rookie for about a month before the players returned and she was cut. Coach and general manager Mike Thibault liked having her around so much that he offered her a video and analytics assistant position, which she accepted, and she finished out the championship season in that role.

When Thibault called her a month before this season started, Peddy assumed it was to see if she wanted to be a coach again. He said the team needed players and offered her a spot on the roster. She played the first month of this season with the Mystics before they cut her. She then signed with the Mercury.

Peddy finished with 12 points for Phoenix on Tuesday night. Diggins-Smith had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists and Taurasi, who improved to 7-0 in single-elimination playoff games, added 23 points. The Mercury went on a 17-0 run over a five-minute span for a 78-73 lead.

Mitchell led Washington with 25 points and Emma Meesseman added 18.

Phoenix made a great comeback and they outplayed us in the fourth quarter, Thibault said. One of the tougher losses I had since I have been in Washington. I feel so bad for these players for how hard they worked. They had a chance to advance.

Washington earned a playoff spot on the final day of the regular season and needed to play nearly flawless basketball during the final week of the regular season to even qualify for the postseason.

The Mystics were missing four projected starters from last season’s championship team as Elena Delle Donne was recovering from a back injury and Tina Charles received a medical exemption. Natasha Cloud and LaToya Sanders opted not to play. All are expected back next year.

Meessemans steal and fast-break layup capped a 5-0 run to give Washington a 83-82 lead with 38.8 seconds left. And after a timeout, Myisha Hines-Allen drew an offensive foul on Diggins-Smith for Phoenixs third straight possession with a turnover.

IPL 2020: Sachin Tendulkar's Son to Join Mumbai Indians? Fans Curious After Arjun Spotted in Camp

Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary cricketer and former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Sachin Tendulkar, has sparked rumours of joining the IPL franchise. The youngster was spotted enjoying with Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar and James Pattinson as an image of him surfaced from UAE on social media.

Arjun also shared an image on his Instagram stories where he can be seen chilling in the pool. He captioned the image, “Rest days are the best.”

Arjun, who is a left-arm pacer, was not part of IPL 2020 auction and his picture left fans wondering what is he doing with MI players.

This is not the first time that Arjun has been spotted training in the MI camp, but the franchisee has not signed him yet. The young player has travelled to UAE as a part of the net bowlers contingent. Every IPL franchisee is carrying a number of net bowlers with them and Arjun will be bowling to the MI batsmen in the nets.

Apart from Mumbai Indians, Arjun has also bowled in the net sessions of Team India. The 20-year old had also bowled to the Indian women's team on the eve of the 2017 World Cup final. He had even managed to injure Jonny Bairstrow with a yorker a couple of weeks earlier and had forced him to miss the complete session.

While Arjun is a net bowler in IPL 2020, one cannot rule out the possibility of MI signing him if any of the players are ruled out of the tournament. The youngster was not part of the auction but given the SOPs and rules, BCCI might allow the franchises to pick a replacement from the set of players who are already in UAE. Arjun has played for India U-19 in 2018.

IPL 2020 is scheduled to commence from September 19 in the UAE. Mumbai Indians will start the tournament by locking horns against Chennai Super Kings.

New Delhi:

India is a unique parliamentary democracy where no questions are asked and no debate takes place, Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Tuesday after the party was not allowed to speak on the Ladakh standoff issue in the Lok Sabha.

Members of the Congress walked out of the Lok Sabha and staged a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament House complex after they were not allowed to speak following a statement by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh.

"India today is a unique parliamentary democracy where no questions can be asked and where no debate is allowed," he tweeted.

P Chidambaram also attacked the Centre for its statement that it does not have data on the number of migrants who died during the lockdown.

"India today is a unique country where no data is maintained about migrants who died on the long trek back home or died after they reached home," he said in a series of tweets.

The former finance minister also sought to corner the government on the country's economic situation.

"India today is a unique economy where cash or grain transfers amounting to 1.7 per cent of GDP is considered adequate "fiscal stimulus".

"India today is a miracle nation where the "fastest growing economy" turned into "the deepest de-growth" in a matter of 3 months," he said.

The country's GDP growth for the first quarter of 2020-21 declined by 23.9 per cent due to the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
