BHUBANESWAR: In the highest single-day spike so far in Odisha, 4,270 more people tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday raising the total virus case load in state to 1,62,920. Eleven more died raising the virus death toll to 656.
While 12 of the 30 districts reported more than 100 new positive cases each, Khurda reported the highest 876 cases followed by Cuttack (374) and Puri (287).
Jagatsinphur (188), Bargarh (183), Jajpur (162), Balasore (150), Angul (147), Mayurbhanj (131),
Jharsuguda (121), Nuapada (119) and Sambalpur (114) were among other districts reporting above 100 positive cases each.
The new deaths include three each from Puri and Sambalpur, two from Sambalpur and one each from
Kalahandi,
Sudargarh, Mayurbhanj.
While the government has asked the district administrations to refrain from routinely referring patients to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, it asked them to ensure that emergency medical technician accompany the patients in transit to ensure they don’t develop hypoxia during transport.
Additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, in a letter to the district collectors, asked them to ensure close monitoring of patients and timely early stage treatment to ensure fewer patients become serious and end up in ICUs. He also asked redeployment of manpower from low burden districts to high-burden districts.
