Ranvir Shorey has hit back at people who are coming out to defend the "muck in Bollywood" and has called them "gatekeepers of the industry". Ranvir took to his Twitter account and said, "The ones who come out defending the muck in #Bollywood are either the 'gatekeepers', or the ones sucking up to them. If you don't like someone whistleblowing or using their freedom of expression, you're free to use your freedom of enabling. Don't see what the fuss is about."

Ranvir's post was presumably towards certain Bollywood stars who have been debating after veteran actress and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan slammed those trying to "tarnish the image of the entire industry".

She took an indirect jibe at actress Kangana Ranaut and actor-politician Ravi Kishan who claimed that drug addiction exists in the film industry.

Jaya, alleging a 'conspiracy to defame the film industry', said on the second day of the Monsoon Session in Parliament, “People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language."

Apart from Kangana, Jaya had also expressed her shock at BJP MP Ravi Kishan's statements and said, "Just because there are some people, you can’t tarnish the image of the entire industry. I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame."

Actress Kangana Ranaut had then responded to Jaya Bachchan with a tweet asking whether the veteran actress would have maintained her stand had her son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda been targeted, while Sonam Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, and Anubhav Sinha lauded Jaya Bachchan for speaking her mind.

British govt makes fresh threats ahead of Edo, Ondo governorship elections

The United Kingdom has threatened to ban politicians who resort to electoral violence, ahead of the Ondo and Edo governorship elections.

This was contained in a statement posted on Twitter by the UK Embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday.

The British government warned that it would seize the assets of such persons and confirmed it would be sending observers to monitor the conduct of the polls in the two states.

“The UK takes a strong stand against election-related violence and, just as we did in the general election in 2019, will continue to take action against individuals we identify as being responsible for violence during the elections.

“This could include restrictions on their eligibility to travel to the UK, restrictions on access to UK based assets or prosecution under international law.

“The UK will continue to provide support and engagement as we move towards these elections. We urge INEC, the Police and all other agencies involved to work together to deliver free, fair and credible elections,” it read in part.

It also confirmed that the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has met with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and called for a hitch-free election.

The warning from the UK comes a day after the United States of America (USA) placed a visa ban against individuals who compromised recent governorship elections.
