69-year-old man dies in Manipur, 239 new cases

IMPHAL: A 69-year-old man from Imphal West district died of Covid-19 at RIMS Hospital in Imphal, a state health department statement said on Tuesday. This took the total death toll in the state to 47.
Manipur registered 239 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in the state, taking the total number of cases to 8,210.
Of the newly infected cases, 224 are civilians, while the remaining 15 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel. The civilians are residents of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kakching, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, and all of them have no significant travel history.
As 6,418 patients have been discharged from Covid care facilities after recovering from the disease, 78 of them since Monday night, the number of active cases in the state stands at 1,745, it said.
With this, the recovery rate is 78.17 per cent, continued the statement signed by the department’s additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.
The newly infected persons are being shifted to Covid care centres for treatment.
