PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 15, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- announced today that it has achieved the AWS Outposts Ready designation, part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Service Ready Program, for its powerful, fully managed database-as-a-service, Scylla Cloud. AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, AWS services, APIs, and tools to virtually any datacenter, co-location space, or on-premises facility for a truly consistent hybrid experience. The designation recognizes that Scylla has demonstrated successful integration with AWS Outposts deployments.

Achieving the AWS Outposts Ready designation differentiates ScyllaDB as an AWS Partner Network (APN) member with a product fully tested on AWS Outposts. AWS Outposts Ready products are generally available and supported for AWS customers, with clear deployment documentation for AWS Outposts. AWS Service Ready Partners have demonstrated success building products integrated with AWS services, helping AWS customers evaluate and use their technology productively, at scale and varying levels of complexity.

Scylla’s unique close-to-the hardware architecture maximizes the power of AWS’s most advanced servers, enabling organizations to run on AWS Outposts at very high levels of hardware utilization while shrinking database clusters and reducing TCO. Additionally, Scylla provides API-level compatibility with both Amazon DynamoDB and Apache Cassandra, so applications can run against either database agnostically, with no code changes. With Scylla, AWS Outposts customers have the freedom to choose the database best suited to their technical and business requirements.

“We’re very excited to bring Scylla Cloud, our fully managed offering with Amazon DynamoDB and Cassandra compatible APIs, to on-premise deployments with AWS Outposts,” said Dor Laor, CEO and co-founder of ScyllaDB. “AWS Outposts enables the best-in-class platform for these use cases.”

To support the seamless integration and deployment of AWS Outposts Ready solutions, AWS established the AWS Outposts Ready Program to help customers identify products integrated with AWS Outposts and spend less time evaluating new tools, and more time scaling their use of products integrated with AWS Outposts deployments.

5,000 teams -- each team comprisinga BMC health department personnel and two volunteers, one male and one female, will go from door to door.
The teams will check body temperature of each member of the household using thermal guns and oxygen saturation level using oximeter.
If any person is found to have Covid-19 symptoms, he or she will be admitted to a nearby hospital.
The teams will also distribute leaflets providing information about Covid-19 and tell people about the precautions to be taken to avoid contracting the virus.

Apple removes the charger from the Watch’s box — the iPhone is probably next

    Apple Watch Charger

Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 6 and the Apple Watch SE today. With that, the company said that it’s removing the USB adapter it provides with the Watch in the box.

The Cupertino-based firm said that the reason is environmental. It claimed this step will save the carbon equivalent of over 50,000 cars per year. That means Apple must be making millions of these chargers to ship with the Watch.

This move will fuel the rumors that the iPhone 12 will also not ship with a power adapter.

If you’re an iPhone user, there’s a chance you already have a lightning cable, but Apple Watch chargers might not be as common as those. So, I don’t know if Apple will save as much carbon it claims.

Also, Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE are priced at $399 and $279 respectively. As we know, the company’s accessories are not cheap, so you might have to shell out some extra bucks to buy an adapter if you don’t have one.

'Gentle' gorilla seen stalking the undergrowth in North Wales

The Wrexham care home owner's only stipulation was the giant ape didn't scare his residents

A 5ft gorilla is not something you would expect to find lurking in the undergrowth wherever you live.

As it happens only a few elderly residents are likely to stumble across the giant ape as they stroll through the leafy 11-acre grounds of their care home.

Created by chainsaw sculptor Paul Morris, it has taken pride of place among a menagerie of wooden creatures at Pendine Park, near Wrexham.

Already the gardens are home to giant squirrels, owls, hawks and a slightly bewildered grizzly bear.

Paul, 56, carved the creatures to brighten up the lives of the residents.

According to the former art student, he spotted the gorilla “hiding” in a huge chunk of felled maple tree.

He knew it would win favour because Pendine Park owners Mario Kreft and wife Gill have been on several gorilla trekking expeditions in Africa.

Paul said: “I see a piece of wood and can just spot the subject staring back at me – in this case, a gorilla for Mario and Gill.

“I started out carving owls, squirrels and the like from wood that would otherwise go to waste.

“Then I carved the big bear in memory of Mario’s late father, Franz, who many years ago travelled the world as a bear and lion trainer in a circus.”

A few years ago snapped a photo of a big plastic gorilla in a garden centre, thinking it would one day be perfect to replicate as a wooden carving.

When a tree surgeon felled an old maple tree in the grounds, Paul seized his opportunity, setting to work on 5ft high block of timber that weighed almost a tonne.

Using a digger, the wood was moved into a barn.

“I asked Mario if I could carve a gorilla and he seemed really pleased,” said Paul.

“His only stipulation being he wanted the carving to depict a thoughtful and peaceful gorilla – not one that was angry and threatening.

“I don’t think he wanted a King Kong around Pendine Park!”

Mr Kreft said Paul fulfilled his remit perfectly.

He said: “Gorillas are gentle giants and display many human-like behaviours and emotions, such as laughter and sadness.

“In fact, gorillas share 98.3% their genetic code with humans, making them our closest cousins after chimpanzees and bonobos.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the gorilla carving unveiled.”
