KOCHI: An investigation has been started against six policewomen for allegedly taking selfie with gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh during their duty in the Thrissur Medical College hospital, where Swapna is undergoing treatment following chest pain. Sources with the Thrissur City Police said that a departmental inquiry has been the policewomen, who were deployed on guard duty at the hospital where Swapna is admitted for the last seven days.
Swapna is being admitted here for the second time in one week. It is alleged that the women officers clicked the selfie when Swapna was admitted for the first time.
Earlier, there were reports that Swapna has used the mobile phones of the duty nurses at the hospital to make some calls. Based on this, the National Investigation Agency has sought report from the hospital authorities. In the report, the hospital management has denied the reports and stated that the nurses enter Swapna’s room only for giving medicine and food, that too in the presence of police.
Meanwhile, NIA has started collecting the details of the people who have visited Swapna at the hospital. The agency is also probing which all high profile persons have visited the hospital since Swapna was admitted there. The team is also probing why Anil Akkara MLA visited the hospital on the night she was admitted. The MLA has earlier alleged that minister A C Moideen visited Swapna in person and arranged meeting with higher officials in a bid to sabotage the case.
Hospital sources said that K T Rameez, another accused in the case, will be discharged from the Thrissur Medical College today. He was admitted following stomach pain but the endoscopy conducted on him found no major issues.
However, Swapna’s discharge will be sanctioned by the medical board after reviewing her angiogram results.
