A batting line-up dotted with big-hitters makes (MI) a formidable outfit but the absence of quality spinners and pace veteran could hurt defending champions’ title defence in 13th edition of (IPL 2020). The side will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the opener on September 19.

The team will play most of its matches on the slow tracks of Abu Dhabi (8) and adapting to that challenge would be the key to its fortunes.

MI tentative playing 11: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Mitchell McLenaghan, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah.

MI batsmen combination

Batting would be MI's strength with skipper Rohit Sharma, South African making for a solid opening pair. Additionally, Australian also gives them an option for the slot if need be.

Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, who is returning from an injury break, and make for a formidable middle-order. Given that all of them are big-hitters, Mumbai will have a distinct advantage over others.

MI bowlers’ combination

The main problems for Mumbai based franchise could lie in figuring out the right bowling combination, especially in the spin department.

On the pace front, with no Malinga, who has pulled out citing personal reasons, Jasprit Bumrah will be under pressure, coming back after a lengthy injury layoff. He was MI's leading wicket-taker in IPL 2019 with 19 scalps.

Among foreign pacers, Mitchell McLenaghan and give them left-arm option while Nathan Coulter Nile would be their bowling all-rounder. Australian James Pattinson adds to the options, making selection a tough call.

WEAKNESSES: Lack of spinners could dent MI chances in IPL 2020

But, all in all, it is the lack of quality spinners that is likely to hurt one of the strongest title contenders. The Mumbai-based franchise has Krunal, who is more of a restrictive option, and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, one of the finds of last edition. Off-spinner Jayant Yadav didn't have a great run in the last domestic season, so, it remains to be seen how many games he gets in

MI’s key player in IPL 2020

All of this might ensure that Caribbean star starts bowling his full quota of overs, which he wasn't doing regularly in the past few seasons. He picked up four wickets for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League final, changing the complexion of the game.

Last year, he even captained the franchise when Rohit was ruled out due to injury. The imposing player smashed magnificent 83 (31) as MI registered its highest successful run chase at home.

MI head coach on as a captain

Coach Mahela Jayawardane, in a recent interview, put his faith in Rohit's instinctive leadership. He said the easy-going batsman also likes to accumulate as much information as possible about the opposition.

"...as long as you are prepared and you are instinctively making those calls and being proactive, that's all that you can ask from him and Ro (Rohit) is brilliant in that," the Sri Lankan great had said.

Novavax aims for 2 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses with expanded India deal

File photo
US drug developer Novavax Inc said on Tuesday it was doubling its potential Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing capacity to two billion doses annually under an agreement with Serum Institute of India, sending its shares up about 7%.
In August, Novavax signed a deal with Serum Institute, the world’s largest producer of vaccines, to produce a minimum of one billion doses of its vaccine candidate, when approved, for low- and middle-income countries and India.

As part of the expanded agreement, Serum Institute will also manufacture the antigen component of the vaccine, dubbed NVX-CoV2373, which Novavax said will bring its manufacturing capacity to over two billion doses by mid-2021.
Coronavirus outbreak: Complete coverage
Novavax’s vaccine is currently in mid-stage trials after an early-stage study showed it produced high levels of antibodies against the novel coronavirus. The company plans to begin late-stage trials in the third quarter.
Last month, Novavax said it will supply 60 million doses of its coronavirus vaccine candidate to the UK beginning as early as the first quarter of 2021.

The company is also preparing to deliver 100 million doses to the United States by January after it was awarded $1.6 billion for its potential vaccine, and has also signed supply agreements with Canada and Japan.
Other drugmakers such as Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc have already begun large late-stage studies of their experimental vaccines.

6 Dracula Movies to Watch in Anticipation of Spooky Season

This week, we recommend you some of the best Dracula adaptations for horror and supernatural fans. Many of these films are classics and do justice to Bram Stoker's novel.

    • Last Updated: September 15, 2020, 10:07 PM IST

The Dracula or Count Dracula is the archetypal vampire created by the Irish writer Bram Stoker. The mythical creature had the power to turn other people into vampires by biting them. This creature has been the subject of many cult classics.

As summer transitions into autumn, here are the best Dracula films for horror-supernatural fans to enjoy:

    Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

Francis Ford Coppola's classic film boasted of a glorious cast including Gary Oldman as the eponymous character with Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, Anthony Hopkins, Sadie Frost and Monica Belucci. A tribute to the book, the film tells the story of Vlad Dracula (Oldman), who after his return from battle realises his wife Elisabeta has died by suicide, as his enemies had told her that he had died. He swears vengeance and denounces God. Centuries later, he sights upon another girl Mina (Ryder) and believes she is Elisabeta's reincarnation. This film also gives us a glimpse in Dracula turning into a werewolf.

    Hammer Dracula Series (1958 - 1974)

Hammer Productions' Dracula series is a nine film series inspired by the original novel by Bram Stoker. It consists of Horror of Dracula (1958) starring Christopher Lee who rose to success playing the mythical character and Peter Cushing as Doctor Van Helsing. The series also includes The Brides of Dracula (1960), Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966), Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968), Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), Scars of Dracula (1970), Dracula AD 1972 (1972), The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974).

While the first movie follows a similar storyline as Bram Stoker's novel, the rest of the films deals with various citizens in Transylvania coming face to face with Count Dracula.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922)

This highly acclaimed spine-chilling silent movie directed by FW Murnau, deserves a place on any such list. Even though the film is an adaptation of the book, it was unauthorised and hence many details were changed. Even the name of Count Dracula was changed to Count Orlok.

A German property Thomas Hutter agent goes to Transylvania to meet his new client Count Orlok, but a series of mysterious events makes him think that there is more to his client than what appears.

    Dracula (1979)

Directed by John Badham, this adaptation leaned into the romantic side of the mythical creature. Starring Frank Langella, Jan Francis, Kate Nelligen and Laurence Olivier, the 1979 film tells the story of Mina Van Helsing, who rescues a man washed ashore, who introduces himself as Count Dracula. The kind woman and her friend Lucy Seward help him nurse back to health. However, Mina soon turns up dead. Her father Professor Van Helsing thinks that there is a supernatural entity responsible for her death, and fears for Lucy's life, who might be the next target.

    Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)

Released the same year as Dracula, Nosferatu the Vampyre directed by Werner Herzog, is a multi-lingual adaptation of the 1922 horror film. As most films are inspired by the origin story, here too Jonathan Harker meets Count Dracula to sell him a house, but the latter comes to Virna as he takes a liking towards Harker's wife Lucy.

However, this film is a more brooding version of Dracula, who instead of enjoying his immortality, carries the burden of not being able to grow old and die.

    House of Dracula (1945)

A sequel to super-successful House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula is a chaotic adaptation directed by Earle C Kenton. Starring John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr, Onslow Stevens and Martha O'Driscoll, the film tells the story of Count Dracula and Werewolf Lawrence Talbot, who are tired of their supernatural abilities and want a cure. They go to Dr Franz Edelmann, a madman who claims to have a cure for the curses. However, the doctor himself has lots of secrets buried which eventually lead to mayhem. The film also features Frankenstein's monster and is one of the four films where the three mythical creatures are together.
