If actor Suriya’s statement on NEET is a mistake, we will repeat it: Dravidian outfit

Actor Suriya
COIMBATORE: While BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu have been criticising actor Suriya for his statement against NEET, Dravidian outfit leaders in Coimbatore have come to his defence.
K Ramakrishnan, general secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, said if Suriya’s statement on courts, which he had made considering students’ welfare, was a mistake, then the outfit 'would also do the same mistake’.
“If Suriya’s statement is construed as a mistake, we will also repeat the same statement and we would also make the same mistake,” Ramakrishnan told TOI.
Ramakrishnan said Suriya’s statement was on humanitarian grounds that conducting NEET at a time when Covid-19 was spreading fast was wrong. “How is this a crime? How is this contempt of court?” he said in his statement.
The actor, in his statement on Sunday, said courts that were dispensing justice through video conferencing due to the pandemic scare asked students to appear for exams. Following this, Madras high court judge Justice S M Subramaniam wrote to the Chief Justice of the HC, seeking contempt proceedings against the actor.
