Greater Noida: Biker on way home killed in crash

Rohit Nagar
GREATER NOIDA: A 22-year-old man working with an inverter battery shop died on Sunday while returning home from work after his bike was hit by a Scorpio about 200m from Rajesh Pilot chowk near Saini village at around 8pm, said the family of the deceased.
The police have, however, filed an FIR against the driver of an ‘unknown vehicle’.
The deceased, Rohit Nagar, was taking a U-turn towards the village when the car hit his bike from behind and fled.
Nagar was flung on a side of the road far from his bike, and received a serious injury to his head. He was declared dead at the private hospital he was taken to, said his family members.
According to a resident of the village, Ramdhan Nagar, a police van was following the vehicles at a distance of about 150m when the accident happened but failed to chase down the speeding car.
The following day, as the police didn’t note down the registration number of the car, the kin of the deceased, along with scores of villagers launched a protest.
Around 2 pm, the family members kept the body of the deceased on the 130m road on which the accident took place, and demanded action against the car driver and cops inside the police response van, and compensation for the family of the deceased youth .
“He belongs to a low-income family and was the sole bread-earner. His wife is pregnant and needs support,” said Deepak Pradhan, one of the protesters.
When around 200 villagers gathered at the spot and brought traffic movement to a halt, teams of police officers from the Ecotech III police station arrived and tried to pacify them. “Why was the number plate not noted and the Scorpio not caught?” said a villager.
Ecotech III SHO, Bhuvnesh Kumar, reassured them that four teams have been formed to probe into the incident and a file for the compensation of the family will be sent to the district administration.
“An FIR against unknown driver of the “unknown vehicle” has been lodged under IPC sections 304a (death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving),” he said. The villagers pointed out that they had clarified the vehicle was a Scorpio.
