Coronavirus India Live: India records second highest number of recoveries in the world
The Covid-19 death toll in India crossed 80,000 on Monday, with the country recording the highest fatalities in the world over the past fortnight. Maharashtra, after reporting over 22,000 new Covid-19 cases for the last five days, reported a significant dip at 17,066 cases on Monday, the lowest in 13 days, taking the total cases to 10,77,374. The data is part of a UN Women report — “From Insights to Action: Gender Equality in the wake of COVID-19”. The report on 129 countries shows that the pandemic will push 96 million people into extreme poverty by 2021, 47 million of whom are women and girls.
