Recently, at meeting with travel agents, the statetourismministry has urged them to widely promote tourism inAndhra Pradesh. The push on promotion has been so significant that travel agents feel that their performance will determine the quantum of benefits that the state government will give them for the losses incurred during the lockdown.
Officials of the state tourism department and the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation met travel agents to discuss the nitty-gritty of registering travel agents in adherence to a recent government order that made it mandatory for travel agents to be registered with the state government.
K Vijay Mohan, president of Tours and Travels Association of Andhra Pradesh, said, “In the meeting, we were asked to maintain a record of tourists coming to AP. Officials also agreed to offer some compensation and made it clear that we should promote incoming tourism.”
Tourism department officials said that the government has lost a lot of money in tourism revenue during the pandemic.
“We feel that travel agents can play an important role in promoting tourism. So we have requested them to market properly so as to attract tourists from other states and countries,” a senior tourism official said while adding that AP has the potential to become an international tourist destination.
Discussing the registration process, it was said that all travel agents will have to fill out an online form furnishing details such as GSTN, annual turnover and list services they provide to register with the state government.
Agents will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 200 and their registration will be valid for three years.
