Doordarshan completed 61 glorious years today (September 15). India’s first television service provider Doordarshan was established on Sep 15, 1959.
The channel gave some iconic shows like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shaktiman, Chandrakanta and the list goes on. It built the childhood and shaped the future of the 80’s and 90’s generation.

While the channel was lagging behind in the TRP race owing to the growing number of satellite channels and TV shows, the nationwide lockdown period got all citizens head to this channel. Reason: The comeback and rerun of all the iconic shows that aired during the time.

The channel once again boasted of some record-breaking TRPs as production of TV shows on other channels came to a halt. With nowhere to go, audiences revisited all the iconic shows and remembered their childhood. Young audiences too, took interest in the iconic serials.
