India reported the lowest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in a week, amid concerns that the second-most populous nation may soon be the world's worst-hit.

The country added 83,809 new infections in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally above 49 lakh in Asia's third-largest economy, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Sept. 15. This includes more than 38 lakh patients who've recovered and over 80,000 dead.

Even as deaths due to Covid-19 crossed the 80,000 mark, India’s fatality rate dropped to 1.64%. Active cases -- fast approaching 10 lakh -- still accounts for just 20% of the total case load.

Global Update

Countries from Iran to the Czech Republic are reporting a jump in cases as the coronavirus flares up again in parts of the world. In France, Bordeaux became the latest city to impose more restrictions to slow a new outbreak.

Researchers are beginning the first study of whether two of the U.K.’s experimental vaccines can be inhaled.

Globally, cases surpass 29.1 million with more than 925,000 dead.

No Data Available On Deaths Of Labourers During Migration: Government

The government does not have data regarding the number of migrants who died or were injured during migration to their native places due to the lockdown, Union minister Santosh Gangwar told the Lok Sabha on Monday.

"No such data is available," the Labour Minister said in a written reply.

The response was to Biju Janata Dal member Bhartruhari Mahtab's question on the "the number of such labourers died/injured during migration to their native places due to such lockdown, State/Union Territory-wise".
