Delhi Chief Minister Arvid Kejriwal said on Monday that he would not allow people living in slums around the railway line in Delhi to be displaced and his government would work closely with the Center to provide them houses.

The slums built around the railway line in Delhi got a big relief on Monday when the Center assured the Supreme Court that these slums would not be removed until the government took a final decision in the matter.

The apex court, in a judgment on 31 August, directed the removal of 48,000 slums along the railway line in Delhi within three months. The issue was debated during the one-day session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the opposition BJP accused each other of the charges.

Leader of Opposition, Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, shouted slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praising his campaign to provide houses to all by 2022.

Kejriwal said, "I believe it is not right to remove 48,000 slums in this phase of the epidemic. What would happen if that place became a Coronavirus hotspot? The law says that they should not be removed before rehabilitation. It is the legal right of every slum to have a house. ''
