NOIDA: Noida Police on Monday arrested two members of Delhi-based Sonu Punjaban gang for allegedly robbing people on the pretext of getting them a massage.
The accused include Sanjay, a younger cousin of Punjaban - who continues to serve 24-year-old imprisonment in Tihar jail for running a sex racket across Delhi and in nearby states.
As many as 20 cases are lodged against the accused in different police stations of Delhi along with Arjun alias Arun- who cops say had recently joined the gang.
With the arrests, it is clear that Punjaban seems to be continuing with running her racket through her aides online.
According to police, the accused had floated online advertisements for the "massage parlour" services after seeing which, the targets would establish contact with them on WhatsApp numbers shared by them and claim to provide "massage parlour" services after sharing images of women to their targets on the platform.
ACP Rajnish Verma told TOI that after the target would select the photograph of the woman, he would be called at a specific location in the late hours of the night where a different woman would meet the target.
“The woman would approach the target first and later start arguing with the target. The men would join her and loot the victim of cash and his belongings," he said.
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh told TOI that suspicious movement of some vehicles, including a Santro, was being noticed for the past sometime in the area.
"After around 10-11pm and even later in the night, movement of some vehicles was noticed in some areas and it was found that these vehicles would have two-three males and at least one or two females present. The woman would de-board the car first and approach the target and indulge in small talk with him," he said.
However, she would soon start a fight over payment after which the males would enter the scene and threaten the target and allegedly loot their cash.
"Involvement of more people of the gang too has come to fore," he said.
The accused have possibly duped hundreds of people in this manner but usually, complainants don't reveal the incident due to shame, cops said.
Police said the accused recently looted a grocery store owner based in Sector-51 and an FIR was lodged in the case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 392 (robbery) and 504 (intentional insult for breach of peace).
Cops said the accused Sanjay, who has at least 20 cases lodged against him for theft, dishonestly receiving stolen property, etc, had been an active member of the gang since the beginning while another accomplice Arjun joined him post-lockdown.
A Santro (DL2CAD6402), Rs 3,000 and two mobiles have been recovered from the accused, police said.
